They can but it will be a nightmare if we have to rely on them covering any decent te.

Demario Davis has the speed to cover Gronk.

His participation isn't mandatory yet. Relax.

This is simply a bad year for FS types. Once Griffith and Nelson resigned with their teams, there was little out there in the way of "impact" FS's. The Bell signing is no different than all the WR signings the Pats made. Just because they are signed and have played in the NFL, doesn't mean they are going to wind up on the final roster (and in the Pats case 2-3 of those WR's WON'T make it.

As a general observer, I think Bell is a prudent signing. First as a back up to Landry, second as a good locker room guy and a mature presence. But secretly I'm thinking the Jets really hope that he'll get beaten out by one or more of your younger guys. Allen would be my pick.

As a Pats fan, he's not going to strike fear into the hearts of the Pats passing game or their TE's. BTW- its nice to hear Jet fans talk about the value of depth. At least you guys are starting to get it.....even if your FO doesn't.

If Bell got beat out by a rookie 7th round pick, it's time for him to hang em' up.

I just looked at the schedule.

    Hernandez/Gronk Twice (obviously)
    Owen Daniels
    Vernon Davis
    Antonio Gates
Marcedes-Lewis (do they even have a QB?)

id say 5 of those are at least top 10 TE, if not all. You made your point.

If our DLine is getting more pressure on the QBs, a really good FS becomes less of a liability. We still have the best Corner trio in the league and extra pressure up front will lessen the affect of top notch TEs.

So back to my original question, would it be possible to have Landry and Bell play together?

I know, but everybody else is there. He's new, he should be taking every possible opportunity to work with his new teammates.

If the Jets re-sign Leonhard then Safety goes for a weak position to a solid one.

This message is hidden because Demosthenes9 is on your ignore list.

Ftr, there's no rule here that I have to read all the crap posted by crappy posters. I find it easier to put posters who contribute nothing on ignore than to scroll through their wastes of cyberspace. It's nothing more or less than that.

As for this SS v.FS business, it is possible the Jets will be using safeties assigned to specific purposes, whether players or areas, without having one be the designated center fielder. In other words it is certainly possible to see two safeties out there who are both conventional SS's without there being an FS.

I don't pretend to be an expert about that, but I believe this to be the case.

Using that logic you should put yourself on ignore.

Would that also account for some more unpredictability on the defense's end? You have two SS so pre snap it might be slightly more difficult to read who will do what. Or am I being too optimistic?

When is someone finally going to give me some of this Kool Aide???

No seriously, you might be right.

Still, neither Landry nor Bell, on paper, is good in covering TE's, so I don't know what the real plan is.
