You can also argue that if they hadn't traded for Tebow, they would have had a 4th and a 6th rounder to use on OL help. They had Stanton signed to be Sanchez's backup, so they really didn't need a backup QB, especially one who has questionable real QB skills. There were still some decent OT prospects left in the 4th round, including Zebrie Sanders whom the Bills took in the 5th, and a 6th rounder is always better than a 7th.

BINGO! This seems to be a real possibility. Whatever might be gained by going to the "simplified" system will be lost by requiring the offense to learn two different sets of plays. You Jets fans best hope that Ryan was just talking out of his ass with his comments about using Tebow "up to 20 plays a game".

People are saying switching schemes is going to help Ducasse / Hunter but if I'm not mistaken isn't a man blocking scheme a lot more complicated? ( depending on the how zone scheme was implemented ) with having to switch assignments and read defensive fronts?

It's amazing that a team that talks About ground and pound would do
Nothing to improve it's oline. Last yr The run game sucked and the lack of
Depth on the line became shockingly Evident. Ducasse sucks but T refuses
To cut the dumb slob. We have no tackle That can fill in event of injury and no
Legit blocking te as of now. Tanny needs To get his head out of his ass
and fill these Holes or we are headed for 7-9 or 8-8 With weak ass schedule.

If this happens he should be fired

From what i've heard about Smith he might be able to fill that roll of Blocking TE, maybe not by start of the season but we can get by with Keller and Cumberland until he's ready. The guys a monster.

No you can't argue that because we got the 6th round pick back by trading Stanton. We only lost a 4th overall for a brad smith type player that's more versatile, but doesn't do returning. It's not bad at all, considering you guys overpaid for Brad Smith last year.

THAT I agree with.. Like I posted and said at the time - the Ravens singed FA Players for OL - Jets did not - I said "THIS could be the difference"

My comment was about you absolutely declaring Wayne Hunter a horrible decision and "They made the decision to stick with Wayne Hunter for the starter last year and it worked out very poorly, mostly because Wayne Hunter fucking sucks."

That one decision When they made it, If Turner, Mangold AND Slaw all stay healthy could have worked out.

For a team that needs OT help badly, using a fourth rounder on Tebow was like a homeless wino using his last $ on booze rather than buying some food and going to the homeless shelter. I'm sure it would make him very happy until it started raining.

This ^ is our glaring concern.

Yes we need a replacement for RT true, but we also have to find some depth all around.

Surprising how no one has mentioned Wayne Hunter declaring he is the starting RT...

    Wayne Hunter:

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d828ffe7a/article/tim-tebow-mark-sanchez-talk-qb-roles

My personal opinion? I think it says alot about him recognizing his poor play and his willingness to improve it and work hard at his craft. I'm hopful for a bounce-back year.

    Oh, and this little snippet.....

The bolded section describes the situation pretty rigorously. We lost our man in Turner. Paid to bring in Schlauderaff. You can either go digging through 3rd hand junk hoping to polish a diamond...or you can pay a bunch of money for a guy that isn't good enough to be a starter in the first place. It's a rock and a hard place.

Last year was a really tough transitional year for the Oline. We lost Woody at the eleventh hour. Injuries left and right. Impossible spot for Vlad to step up and produce in. Tanny just made a decision to not turn last years OL woes into Vietnam...and frankly I don't blame him. Cap space carries forward, so you're essentially getting paid to do nothing. When that is the situation...there better be a pretty good option out there to do something, and clearly the FO felt there wasn't. Fuck last year. By next year we'll have filled out almost all of our depth problems. We'll get those shitty contracts off the books. Last year should be a one time thing.

Glad to see you're really trying to take occam's lessons to heart. They say practice makes perfect. Keep at it, Slugger.

Obviously there is no basis in fact to make that prediction. There was however a basis in joke. Unfortunately, we're probably not going to win back to back Super Bowls starting in 8 months so we likely won't get to see the SOJF's personal identities' torn to shreds before our very own eyes.

SOJF's are SOJF's by nature. Is it because that's their identity? Or is it because the Jets have pretty much sucked over the past 40 years?

The answer is yes. The answer isn't both, because they're one and the same. It's the chicken or the egg riddle.

My problem is that I'm in my early 20's. Plus, I learned early on not to invest anything emotionally in the Just End The Season's after the initial heartbreaks. All of a sudden I woke up one day and found out that they canned Mangina and brought in the guy that made the Ravens D one of the fiercest units of all time. That was the day that I remember praying to God (when I still believed in him) to see when I was 15 years old. I haven't had decades to watch that spirit get beaten out of me over and over again like all of the older fans. All I see is an organization that has been doing all the right things for about five years...and is now on the cusp of greatness as we speak.

Older Jet fans just see all of the old catastrophes of wasted potential and expectations and dreams from the many fiasco seasons. The only thing that is going to change the mentality of the fan base is winning; nothing else. Luckily Rex and Co brought a family style bucket of winning with them. Dinner should be served shortly.

    That's not true at all.

By the 6th and 7th round, every prospect has pretty much the same chance of making a tangible impact in the NFL: slim to none.

Why don't you join a Bills forum? You might get more positive responses over there... Or maybe bug those Pats fans since you think the Bills will contend with them?

This is basically why I hated the Tebow trade from the get-go.

Funny - I never expected to hear this from a clueless Bills fan.

I can't say enough about what I think of Hunter and so I'll say a little. We'll be in the same boat as last year's if this guy starts for us again.

Exactly. Hard to see a return to ground and pound when the blocking hasn't improved. Sparano didn't exactly show himself to be a wizard with the Dolphins' O-line, either.
