It would, if Tanny's history of trading up for players was calculated and proven instead of common and predictable.

I believe the Jets had a deal with the Steelers - We all know they were thinking of trading down and with all the talent, it made sense.... What I don't believe is that they told everyone that it was IRVIN!!!!

See what happens in any negotiation is.. You Compliment the people you are dealing with As In "DAMN WE LOVED YOUR PICK AND THOUGHT ABOUT TAKING HIM!!!!!!!!" (Taking that as gospel is silly)

And you let it leak that you may be interested in guys you are not.....

The media - Has to Chase Every one of these leads like Dogs chasing their tails.. LOL. Fucking roaches trying to beat out the next guy over some stupid twist of what someone might have said... Jesus - REALLY????

If I were involved with a team I'd laugh my ass off at making these dumb-ass Beat Reporters chase the next Big Story while wasting time and writing about the crap we throw against the wall all as part of Draft Spin and working the Draft.....

Beat Reporter IMO is a freakin washed up career in this day and age of instant information. They have to be rats to try and get stories and try to spin any morsel they can find and then interview the likes of Cromartie, knowing he will say something dumb that they can spin.... They're all on Twitter trying to break the next lead and beat kids like @Steiny to the punch.....

These guys are a rung up from Basement Nerds scouring the internet. To me Beat Reporter = National Enquirer for Sports.

Honestly, While it could be fun for a while to be near Pro Sports, I think being a Beat Reporter would grow tiresome real fast to me and I wouldn't be able to sleep at night being some scum bag reporter who is now forced into trying to Be The News instead for reporting it....... Twisting every damn thing in order to sensationalize it and make a name for myself....

Florio is the king at all this Douchebaggery... I guess he laughs to the bank - I look at him as DIRTY SCUM!

    Bottom line:

Every Single NY Beat Writer, Lacanafora, Florio and his Mom had no idea and could not predict the Jets interest in Coples - Even That tard Schein said "No way the Jets take Coples!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Fucking moron.

At the end of the Day, I like the fact that every beat writer Whiffed on anything and everything the Jets were up to draftwise.......

And now, they sit back, pick up the pieces and try to reconstruct where they went wrong and try to act as if the Jets flubbed something they knew all about....

And to top it all - Funny how a month ago guys Like Bart Hutch were tweeting that they NOW had to learn about the Draft players and now Post draft these guys write the Grades as if they have a clue - and their grades are based on the fact that they all GOT IT WRONG and had no Clue... So, yeah, Jets get a bad grade they didn't pick the guy I said they should pick after reading internet crap for 4 weeks.... LOL... MORONS!

I understand beat writers saying the Jets had a bad draft because it fits their narrative. Grading drafts before they ever step onto the field is a useless exercise, but at least you can usually look at draft value and evaluate it that way. Even that is tough because who is assigning the value?

Still, most people had Coples as a top 15 player and Hill as a top 25 player. Davis was a late riser on most draft boards, and nobody thought Antonio Allen would fall to round 7. Surprised many "draft experts" hated our draft, too.

there was never any deal w/pittsburgh. Rex has always wanted Coples. The fact that the hacks are still printing phony stories shows how clueless they are and how well Rex has them spinning like tops. Its a poker game - there are always lots of different scenarios discussed and they are usually smokescreens for what is actually going on and what the real priorities are. Coples was #1 on Rex's list. The best DE in the draft. Pretty funny to see the hacks continuing to fall for the bluff.

It's always surprising that a poster on a forum knows more than someone who does this professionally. I'd be more inclined to believe them over you considering credentials. Get off your couch or computer chair and do some research first.

I'm not sure I believe this.

The Steelers loved DeCastro so much that they were willing and had a deal to move up to #16... yet when that deal fell through, they didn't make any deals with subsequent teams to move up and get their man? They just said f*ck it and stayed where they were? Doesn't make much sense to me. Seems like if they loved the guy to move up that far, they would have continued to do so after this deal fell apart. Trades are so much easier these days.

One thing that's really important to note is that Cimini and the other beat reporters never linked Coples with the Jets at all. They talked about just about every other pass rusher at one point or another in the week leading up to the draft but Coples just wasn't in the picture.

I agree with you that the Jets have the beat guys on the merry-go-round. If I see something in one of their columns at this point I assume it's misinformation unless the source is Rex and then I assume it's random.

    Let's look pick by pick:

17 - Bengals: not trading with the Steelers.
18 - Chargers: Got Ingram who apparently was a guy they targeted heavily.
19 - Bears: Wanted a pass rusher and with Coples gone the 4-3 guys were dwindling.
20 - Titans: Legit shot at a trade since the Titans might have gotten Wright on 24. Wright was the last of the WR's with a clear 1st round grade though and the Titans really wanted a receiver to pair up with Locker so they probably don't trade down.
21 - Bengals: not trading with the Steelers.
22- Browns: not likely to take DeCastro with their other needs.
23 - Lions: What's the point of trading up a pick?

Well if there was a deal in place with the Jets, the Steelers obviously felt the need to move ahead of all of those teams.

I didn't say they didn't want to move up. I'm just pointing out that after the Jets pick it gets much harder for them to move up in a meaningful way because the other teams are having people they want drop to them and the Bengals kind of monopolize the interval with two picks between 16 and 24.

Just like plenty of teams could have used a C before we took Mangold at #29....Remember; interior linemen, no matter how great they are, never go inside of the top 20...With that said, DeCastro was my hope, even at 16. He grades out that high. He will be an all pro and with that young line, the steelers have themselves something great (Pouncy, DeCastro, Adams)

looky here slappy, i really don't care what you believe or who you believe. its always entertaining to have some of you gullible types around who foolishly believe every dumb draft related rumor that gets floated out there anonymously so dummies will think its true.

I'm starting to think that you're one of a very very few people here capable of understanding how an intelligent front office thinks. Congrats on using what your mother gave ya.

Did they make the call to Seattle on Irvin after they phoned in the pick? Who knows, probably. One thing is for sure...if they made the call there were people covering their mouths to contain the laughter in the background. As soon as the phone was hung up, the room erupted in laughter.

Pitt trade up was a done deal. Santa Claus scheduled to perform When the Circus Comes to Town. Don't be naughty, children.

I dunno why there are so many people who dont believe this deal coulda happened.

I mean basically it looked like Ingram/Coples/Irvin were all going to be on the clock when the Jets picked

They figured we can grab an extra 2nd and still get one of the 3 (possibly even 2 of the 3 since trading down would give us a late 1st to draft one, and 2 2nds to trade up and get another)

Soon as Irvin went off the board they realized its possible that all 3 of them could be gone by the Jets next pick, and decided to take their BPA

Nothing sounds crazy to me, sounds pretty much exactly like what id expect a team to do on draft day.

Why people think this is some crazy media conspiracy is beyond me.

And it would be pretty easy to figure out that the Jets had interest in Irvin (I dont think they ran around and yelled DAMN WE WANTED IRVIN) if the Jets were actively working this deal up before he got drafted, then pulled the deal away once he was gone (realizing it was very possible that they might not be able to get any of their 3 prime targets)
