Wow he thinks the Jets will have the #9 pick. That's just completely absurd. The 8-10 picks in the 2012 draft each finished 6-10, so McShay thinks we will finish 2012 somewhere in the 5-7 win category. On the schedule I can see 6 gimme's (Miami x2, Indy, StLou, Jax, AZ) and 4 more we should win (Buffalo x2, Seattle, Tennessee). If we can win all those games we will have 10 wins and a good shot at the playoffs. If we can steal a couple wins from the remaining group (NE x2, Pitt, Houston, SD, SF) we have a shot at the division. Regardless, the odds of finishing with 5-7 wins is just absurd.

It's a very early projection. But let's take a look at what McShay has in store for the AFC East:

    Miami Dolphins

    Pick: No. 8

McShay's pick: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia

Thoughts: McShay projects Miami to take one of the best pass-rushers next year. Jones recorded 13.5 sacks as a junior, and expectations are high for Jones in 2012. Pass-rushers are always needed. For example, Dolphins outside linebacker Cameron Wake is entering the final year of his contract and is in the middle of a dispute with the team.

    New York Jets

    Pick: No. 9

McShay's pick: Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU

Thoughts: I'm surprised McShay and Scouts Inc. project New York to have a top-10 pick next year. Are the Jets on their way to another implosion, as the No. 9 overall pick suggests? If that's the case, McShay sees the Jets drafting another pass-rusher in Mingo. This is the norm for Jets coach Rex Ryan. But I think running back and offensive tackle could be more pressing needs by the end of next season.

    Buffalo Bills

    Pick: No. 17

McShay's pick: Logan Thomas, QB, Virginia Tech

Thoughts: The Bills didn't draft a developmental quarterback this year. So I understand why McShay sees Buffalo taking one in the first round in 2013. Buffalo will need to have someone ready to replace Ryan Fitzpatrick in the next few seasons. But I was surprised that it was Thomas over Oklahoma's Landry Jones, who has more buzz entering this year. But both players will settle it on the field to determine who is the second-best quarterback prospect behind Matt Barkley of USC.

    New England Patriots

    Pick: No. 32

McShay's pick: Marquess Wilson, WR, Washington State

Thoughts: Once again, it's interesting that McShay and Scouts Inc. are vaguely predicting a Super Bowl title for New England. The Patriots have so many receivers already that I'm finding it hard to see New England drafting that position in the first round. The Patriots have few holes. But maybe cornerback or running back could be early targets, depending on how things play out this season.

I would be very happy with Mingo (if he continues to get better), but I highly doubt we win any less than 9 games next year.

Keke Mingo is a freak athlete which is why he is projected to go so high. He didnt have a lot of experience playing ball in high school (I think he started as a junior), but when he started playing he got bit time offers. He was ranked as a linebacker coming out of school

We bulked him up from 210 to 240, and moved him to end. He has great arm length and can run a 4.5 40 yes a defensive lineman can run a 4.5. Mingo isnt a big strength rusher but he has plenty of speed and quickness. The biggest knock against Mingo is that, even though LSU used a rotation, Mingo still lost a bunch of snaps to Ken Adams who was basically a two down run stopper. Regardless, his upside is amazing

Mingo is an awesome name. He should drop his surname and be like Brazilian footballers with only one name.

I know mocks are mostly just for fun, but 2013? Mocks are hardly accurate when done the day before the draft...

Too soon, too soon. The draft just ended.

(Not to mention, if the Jets have only 5 or 6 wins, Rex may get canned, so then he is trying to predict the draft pick of the new coach.)

Every early mock I've seen has us taking a DE. Do these guys realize that our last 2 first rounders have been DEs?

I think he would project as a 3-4 OLB. If not, then yeah, I would have the same question as you.

There is no way in hell Mingo would play 34 DE. he isn't even close to big enough. He is predicting this in the thinking that he will be moved to OLB to be a pass rusher.

Barkevious Mingo. That LSU defense could go to the NFL right now and be in the top half of the league.

If we're picking 9th, we're most likely looking QB because we have a new GM/HC.

Nah-uh, cuz we would have lost 8 games with Sanchez and then when Tebow was made the starter he was 5-3. Tebow saves.

Jets worst finish under Rex was 8-8 and he has us going 6-10? Losing Plaxico Burress must be a franchise killer in his opinion.

He's got the Rams going 2-14 again? Since when did Bradford become a bust?

I love how some of you guys come up with these "gimme" wins for the Jets. Last game of the season Last Year the Dolphins beat us keeping us out of the playoffs, a couple of years ago they swept us, yet you already count them as 2 "gimme" wins... same goes with Buffalo, they ALWAYS play us hard and we almost Always split with them, last year we were fortunate, but to automatically give us a sweep with their vast off season improvements is blind homerism at its best. We NEVER play well on the west coast, so the Seattle game will be a toss up also... I can go on & on with expecting "greatnesss" from the Jets but I'm pragmatist & I live in the real world.

You're right about the gimme's. No game in the NFL is a gimme, just ask the Patsies about losing to the Bills last year. However they are games we should win.

And the last game against the Dolphins wasn't a "win and in" game for the playoffs. Jets had to win and have like 3 other teams lose, which didn't happen either. Still should have beat the Dolphins though if not for stupid dirty Sanchez and his INTs to a DL.

I rather us get Sam Montgomery. He seems like a better 3-4 Pass rusher then Mingo.
