Rex said that they had both Coples and Hill rated higher than Irvin! That hack Cimini just makes things up. Nice to see him exposed for everyone to see.
When I clicked this thread, I was kind of hoping for a story where rex actually calls out Cimini. I hope Cimini can at least apologize for misleading the fans.
What's Rex supposed to say, "We had Irvin rated higher but we got stuck with this guy?" Of course he's going to say that. All GM's do. It doesn't mean anything.
Typical idiot Bills fan. One thing about Rex is he calls it like he sees it. When you watch the video you know that he means what he's saying and that he's annoyed that Cimini makes things up. I'm sure the Jets had both Coples and Hill rated ahead of Irvin. For that matter probably 30 other teams did as well. Oh yea except the idiot Jills.
No. One thing about Rex is he always pumps up his own players in the media. Just because he said it doesn't make it true.
rex2009, as much as i would love to agree with you i cant. now i think rex probably did have both of them higher than irvin but rex has been proven to be full of shit on more than one occasion. i was hoping for a direct cimini your an asshat quote from rex. im kinda disappointed.
Rex is not going to do that. This is as close as he can come to calling Cimini out. It's pretty clear what he means. If you watch the video there is no question as to who he's directing his comments toward. We'd all love for a direct cimini your an asshat quote but even Rex won't go that far.
The obvious explanation that reconciles all versions is the Jets had Irvin as a second rounder, like everybody else in the NFL. They might have grabbed him if their first round projections for pass rusher had all been gone.
Rex is generally full of shit, but I wouldn't be surprised if he were telling the truth on this one. Clinkscales specifically mentioned arm length as a key factor in evaluating pass rushers prior to the draft. If true, that would have dropped Ingram quite a bit on the Jets board.
Oh please... Rex never calls it like he sees it. He always defends his players as much as he possibly can. Not arguing wether it's good or bad... just stating the obvious.
If there is one thing that players always say about Rex is that he calls it like he sees it. He's honest to a fault and that's why he says things that sometimes gets him into trouble. One thing that is obvious when you watch his press conferences, and I've seen probably every one, is that he doesn't have a great filter. His issue is that he's too honest with his comments not the other way around. In this case if you watch the video he was calling Cimini out by saying there was NO TRUTH behind the fact that they even considered Irvin with the 16th pick. He indicated that they wouldn't have even taken him over their second round pick. Irvin was a second round talent who was picked by the only team dumb enough to select him in the first round. Cimini is a fraud and Rex clearly indicated that by how he attacked his fradulant report on Irvin.
This wasn't even really a Cimini story. He quoted a story by Len Pasquarelli that said the Jets were going to take Irvin.
Reading too much from this. Rex is always going to put a positive spin on his guys and his roster. Whether Irvin was rated higher or not, Rex would've made the same type of comments. Cimini is still an asshole that makes up crap too often but in this scenario, he was not called out.
To a degree all of them do. Which is why it is irrelevant when any of them claim the guy they picked was rated higher than the guy they didn't get a chance to pick.
One of the problems with your argument is Cimini never claimed knowledge that Rex wanted Irvin. Rather he reported and linked Len Pasquarelli's article. Nothing wrong with that at all as he is reporting Jet news. He followed up the article with comments from rex deneying the Jets would take Irvin. Like it or not Pasquarelli is a legitimate news source and Cimini is only doing his job blogging about the jets posting a link to this info. Here is an excerpt from Cimini's article. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/12243/report-jets-wanted-irvin-not-coples
Dick Cimini posted this today: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/12323/sunday-notes-the-wayne-hunter-gamble 3. LUCKY BREAK: Contrary to a report, the Jets had no interest in taking West Virginia DE/OLB Bruce Irvin with the 16th pick -- so they claim. You'd like to believe them because, despite tremendous speed-rushing ability, Irvin is a bit of a head case. An opposing scout, pulling information from his team's report on Irvin, said the player refused an opportunity to become a full-time starter (he started six games last season). According to the scout, Irvin basically told his coach, "I don't want to start, I just want to rush the passer." The Seahawks took him with the 15th pick. Said the scout: "Pete Carroll may have done the Jets a favor." Instead of just reporting news, stories, facts, etc this guy always has to inject some kind of douchebag comments to show his disdain for the Jets. I call into evidence this statement: "..so they claim. You'd like to believe them.." So basically this Dick does not believe the HC who was involved in the draft board ranking and draft selection but does believe a talking head who "has an inside source." But I don't blame this Dick, I blame ESPN for being a hack of an organization.
