Conley was a huge downgrade from Weatherford. He is simply a mediocre punter and it doesn't seem like we are addressing a pretty important need.

People tend to make fun of the punter position but it is crucial for positioning, something the Jets were terrible at last year.

Anyone know what's up? What should we do about the punter position? Any good free agents?

Conley had one of the worst punting averages in the NFL last season (42.7 - 30th). I wouldn't call that good enough to be considered mediocre. Hopefully we can find a better Punter than 30th.

lets see who gets cut, similar to a Josh Brown situation. Conley is terrible though, that's for sure.

Still cant believe we gave up on Weatherford. Yes he had a bad stretch in the playoffs but he was an excellent punter in the Regular Season.

Punters are a defense's best friend... And the offense when their not up to par. They can hide some mistakes and keep the game close. I hate how people rag on punters... They're not a dime a dozen not many people can kick it far and have the accuracy that weatherford had

Westy has his strengths...PK and P are not one of them.

I read that Weatherford hated Westhoff.

Probably because when Weatherford was terrible in the playoffs two years in a row Westhoff got in his face.

Jets should've drafted a punter. If no better punters get cut and we get stuck with Conley I'll be very upset.

Conley is terrible; one of the worst punters the Jets have ever fielded.

Maybe Conley and hunter are a package deal,,,,,,you can't get rid of one without the other,,,,, we all know that neither of them should still be on the roster,,,simply amazing:breakdance:

  13. Forget kicker, this is the ST position to be concerned with. A part of me hoped the Jets would draft a punter but it never happend. They can't possibly be planning to go another season with Conley who was below average all season long.

Without drafting a punter, the Jets are gonna have a tough time finding anybody good. They've got Conley & the opportunity to sign a bunch of punters that aren't on anyone else's roster. Realistically, think the Jets are hoping to grab an unsigned free agent & hoping he can be just be average.

Considering the Jets (and Pats) both grabbed rugby players for NFL positions, what about going back to rugby for a punter? Think there's a few punters or FG kickers with soccer backgrounds so it won't be the first time teams looked outside of NFL/NCAA talent pool for kickers.

AFL would be a better place to look for punter considering the game is centered around kicking, however, I'm not sure why any would want to step down and play as a punter in the NFL a non-physical and widely disrespected position.

You can't just all of a sudden coach someone into a good punter though. Conley didn't have the leg strength to do anything no matter who coached him.

I don't think they punt very much in arena football.

Why, cause Westhoff didn't want him to go for it on 4th & 18 from inside our own 20?

Westoff hurt poor Weatherford's feelings by yelling at him too much.

Apparently the Giants are much kinder to their punters.

Fuck Weatherford and fuck the Giants.
