I distinctly remember Braylon blocking a FG attempt......But I'm probably "mis-remembering" it which seems to be the word of the day here. Braylon and Megatron....YIKES! The Rams could use a #1 WR like...Yesterday. Bradford would certainly appreciate it. But I'm still holding out hope he gets signed here. AAAAAAAND HERE WE GO. EDIT : BTW, this would blow AbdulSalam's "GOT IT????" post out of the water if true.
Look, even if Braylon was in for a rare FG block attempt, that's hardly what I meant when I said play special teams. I'm talking about a guy regularly participating in several areas on special teams. Braylon wouldn't bring that to the table.
heard Clayton on ESPN say that the Jets would be pursuing Braylon sometime next week if hes healthy and if some of their current WR don't impress.
NICE!! Hope it happens!! worst case keep him on roster and he is depth! people get injured all the time!!
as good a soldier as braylon was in the locker room when he was here.does anyone think he is going to be happy being depth? i think he might start chirping if he was to fall out of the #2 spot
Coming off a down year plus having a significant knee injury, he doesn't deserve a starting role, if anything he needs to prove himself. If he makes plays and stays healthy he deserves the #2 job but nowhere in the NFL is he going to get a starting role out of the gate.
honestly, if we sign Braylon, itll be if he's healthy and ready to go. A healthy Braylon is better than the rookie Hill. Besides in my mind we'd sign him for a year, and by the end of that term Hill will be ready to go.
Imagine that The jets having too many recievers for a change Last year we pretty much had none at times (Kerley hurt, Holmes acting like a bitch, Plax isnt a football player) now we could have Holmes/Kerley/Schilens/Braylon/Hill and possibly even that 7th rounder actually playing football at some point Trending upwards
I tend to agree with your point here. I also have an opinion on your question, and not only do I think the FO screwed it up last off season, but have to wonder if they are going to hold their mistake against Edwards on a going forward basis. There was the DWI. There was the perception by the FO, which I did not share, and that is despite the fact that I count as a Holmes defender around here, that Holmes was the superior value compared to Edwards. Well, in fairness to them it did sound like Edwards was probably demanding more than his market value. But I still think a deal could have been reached, and whether you thought so in advance or now do so with the benefit of hindsight, it would certainly have been better to have kept Edwards than to have brought in Burress. I can see the logic of the Hill pick, but that's more medium to long term. If the overall strategy has been and remains giving Sanchez a real shot this year, from opening day, to show whether he deserves to stay as the Jets' starting Qb, a piece of that would include bringing back Edwards. I mean who here doubts that MS would want that? But... if I had to wager on it, I agree with you - I will be surprised if Edwards is back. Maybe not flabbergasted, but mildly surprised.
I consider myself neither a homer nor a darksider, but I would guess the homers here see me as the later. Despite that, and for some reason, I am an optimist about Turner. I think he needs experience on the field, perhaps practice running routes. I can't really justify it with any deep analysis. I know that. But I have a good feeling about his future with the team. Not as much as Kerley, for perspective. But still, some optimism. We shall see about Turner.
Can you expand why you have less optimism for Kerley? As a #2 receiver I think Turner has more potential, good hands and good blocker. As a #3 receiver I think Kerley has more potential, quicker, good not great hands, has a nose for 1st down marker. I think if Braylon wants to sign here for a cheap deal knowing he has to earn a roster spot, sure I will take him. I think he will get better options than whatever the Jets give him though.
Glad to hear the Jets are going to kick the tires on Braylon next week. Braylon and Hill on the outside, with Holmes in the slot, Keller off the RT and Greene lined up as the single back. Stop that shit Bellicheck.
This is a good post. Personally, I kind of went back and forth on the Braylon/Holmes debate. I remember during the 2010 regular season I was a big Braylon fan and would argue with my friends that if they have to choose one, to choose Braylon. But by the end of the playoffs I really felt Holmes fit Sanchez more and he definetely is a superior talent to Braylon, so I'm glad they signed Holmes up. I'm kind of a holmes apologist myself too now. With the benefit of hindsight, yes they really screwed up by signing Burress, I'm willing to bet he was bitching more than Holmes last season and probably planted a bug in Holmes' ear.. Not to mention he was very slow and one dimensional. I really think the whole situation started in the owner's box. Braylon may have had his "demands" but probably could have been had for the same as what they gave Plaxico, or at least a combination of the Plaxico/Mason money, but I think Woody was really pissed about the DWI. He was also in love with Plaxico, reaching out to him in jail, strangely making public comments about him when he was in jail - despite never had playing a down for the Jets. I'm not the biggest Tannenbaum fan but I really feel word came from the top on this one. That's another reason why I don't think they'll bring Braylon back, Woody will be against it. What is remarkable to me is the turnover and dropoff in such a short time in the Jets WR corps. By the end of the 2010 regular season the Jets had perhaps one of the best WR corps in the whole league. - Holmes, Braylon, Cotchery, Brad Smith / yet this offseason the Jets were looking at Holmes, Schliens, Kerley, Turner : that's a huge dropoff and a horrible display by the F.O. I really hope Stephen Hill can be what people think he can Sanchez needs a good young WR for both their development..
I don't want to speak for BB, but I'm pretty sure that he was saying that although he has optimism for Turner, he has even more optimism for Kerley. I agree with what you say about Kerley having more potential as the #3 (slot receiver) but that just happens to be his natural position - same with Turner playing the #2 spot outside which is where he's physically suited to play. The difference is that Kerley came in his rookie year and IMO played well enough to solidify his starting spot at #3 this year. Turner showed some improvement but I still doubt that he could beat out either Hill or Schilens to start at the #2 spot.
You misread my post. I said I have more optimism about Kerley. I thought Kerley was the single most refreshing development for the whole team last year.
It doesn't take much to get me to complain about Woody, so this is like throwing me some red meat. Yeah, that all makes sense to me, and to me the obvious motivation there is that if Burress had in fact worked out well, it would have been something Woody would have no doubt seen as part of his PR war against the Giants. And that's why Woody would prefer someone who shot himself in the leg and ended up in prison to someone who got a DWI. In other words Woody almost certainly liked the CONCEPT of getting Burress instead of Edwards more than basing it on a real assessment of the football fundamentals. I may not be much of a Tanny fan, but if you want to look at the really bad moves the Jets have been making, Woody's fingerprints are going to be all of them.
Okay, yeah I read it really quickly immediately. Never mind then. I agree on Kerley, a lot of times on third downs he ran his routes perfectly with the marker where he came back to make the catch, but it still left him far enough down the field for the 1st down. It was nice to see one of our guys killing the opposing defense on 3rd down
I always like Braylon, and I would not mind seeing him back in green. That said, Braylon's greatest skill is being a very poor man's Randy Moss - running in a straight line and catching the deep ball (which incidentally Sanchez and Tebow throw very well). In his rookie season, my guess is that Stephen Hill is also going to be a straight line vertical type receiver, leaving the finesse routes underneath to Holmes, Kerley and Keller. Schilens appears to be a similar type of player, though I have not seen much of him personally. In the end, I never think you can have enough team speed at the receiver position (just ask Drew Brees), so you have very little to lose bringing Braylon back.
Edwards would be the starter not depth if healthy. I think Hill has a chance to be special, but he's not gonna be an every down player out of the chute. WR's coming out of the draft rarely make a huge impact their first season. Especially one coming from such a non-NFL style college style. Alot to learn.
