Wow, talk about going emo. I realize that my post had a snide edge to it but I was being honest in that it sounded as if you were dismissing the fact that the Dolphins' WRs were insufficient based on the fact that Tannehill may not even see the field this year. I thought this thread had a decent dialogue going on in response to your OP so I don't know why you're so frustrated. When fans from rival teams come onto their rivals' message boards they have to expect a little push back. I mean come on, you go on a Jets board and make an extensive post about how the Dolphins draft was better than the Jets and then expect everyone to be your chum? Fans like to trash talk each other just like players do. You really shouldn't take it so personally.
Because Tannehill was a reach and, because of your coach's relationship with Flynn, it made a shitton more sense to spend money to bring in a new QB and use the first to fill another need. Wouldn't you much rather have Flynn and Kuechly or Flynn and Poe or Flynn and Floyd instead of just Tannehill (at this point because on the future knows the correct answer)? Also, when you're drafting out of the top 5 and the reach # (9) is greater than your pick # in the draft (8), then the pick is a reach.
Ranking drafts at this point has to do with how you feel about certain players. I liked Hill coming out of the draft and didn't do a ton of research on Coples since I thought he'd be gone. Tannehill is like Hill. He has the physical skills, and he seems like a fiery guy, but he hasn't proven to be a great QB yet. At #8 that's a risk. It's a risk you probably had to take because if you're right, you have your QB for a while. But if you're wrong, you're right back to this process in a couple years. I'm not a huge Martin fan, but between him, Egnew and Miller, you have a few high upside guys. Randall should be a decent backup in the rotation. Texas had a good defense this year. Getting Glenn in the 2nd round was a nice get, he should be a solid player. Gilmore has physical ability though I'm not totally sold on him as elite. I mean, it's hard to say. Bills have the safest draft on paper. Jets have the most upside. New England and Miami are in the middle.
I guess I go along with Peter King and Florio from PFT on this... All teams draft grades are incomplete, at least for a couple of years. If folks want to play the grade the draft game, let's pull the 2009 draft up and properly grade it now that we know how the players actually turned out for the most part.
Hard to judge any of these drafts yet. The one thing I don't like about what we did was moving up in the second to take Hill instead of letting the draft come to us. Obviously this would have hurt less if we didn't make the Tebow move. I would have liked to see us draft at our position more players than move up. It's like the move for Keller. Like the player but not the value. The Jets have lots of holes and lack depth because we fall in love with guys and don't have confidence in our board.
I rather think its because we do have confidence in our board - Hill offered great value at that point - no-one would have raised an eyebrow if he was taken in the 20's in the 1st round. If you have a player you have a 1st round grade on you can get a for a mid-2nd rounder and some change then I have no problem moving up to get him if the next best player on your board has a solid 2nd round grade.
Interesting read beacuse the Giants had a first round grade on Rueben Randle, a WR they drafted at the end of the second round. http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/04/28/giants-thrilled-to-land-rueben-randle/

Nothing Peter King writes is worth anything to a Jets fan because his bias is so transparent. It's a shame because he was a gifted writer for awhile there before 2003 or so. Then he just lost it and his columns have been progressively worse to the point of unreadability at this point.
There's just no way we get away from this until Tannenbaum and Bradway leave the building. They're both unable to let the draft just come to them and we lose depth and the potential for random late stars as a result. It's not a science and you might well miss out on somebody good for lack of a few slots in the order early on but you definitely miss out on unheralded stars later when you never exercise 4th and 5th round picks. Do they happen often? No, but the Saints never win their Super Bowl without Carl Nicks and Margues Colston and the Jets never find those guys with the people we have in the pro personnel dept and GM spots right now.
The problem with your logic is that Miami may very well have passed on Flynn because Philbin knows more about Flynn's real potential than others. Flynn was a 7th round draft pick who has a grand total of 2 NFL starts in which he put up big numbers with one of the best offenses in the NFL at the very end of the season. That's NOT exactly the scenario he's going to face as a starter anywhere else. There's absolutely no proof that Flynn will make it as a starter, and probably not even a reasonable expectation of it. In fact, Seattle hedged its bet on Flynn by taking Russell Wilson in the 3rd round.
If yore gonna be a troll on "furren MBs", especially those of AFCE rivals, ya gotta develop a thicker skin, son.
I'm an unabashed Bills homer, so IMO, the Bills got an A! Seriously, I think that they did an excellent job connecting talent with need, especially at the top of the draft. They got the second best CB in the draft, and they needed a CB. They needed OL help, especially at OT, and they got that in spades: 3 big uglies for the OL, including 2 OTs. Glenn in the 2nd is a keeper! They needed a fast WR and they got one in the third with Graham. I liked Miami's draft except for Tannehill. IMO, taking the third best QB in the draft in the first round is probably wasting a pick. Since 2000, about half the QBs picked in the top ten have been busts or major disappointments, and there is absolutely nothing more useless on a team than a first round bust QB, and Tannehill has so many negatives, that I think somebody fell in love with him at the Combine (owner Ross perhaps?). RT played WR for his first 2 years in college because he wasn't good enough even be a backup QB. His best games came in his first year when he took over for the injured Jerrod Johnson and teams didn't know much about him. In 2011, Tannehill generally sucked against good competition. He also failed to win close games. I don't care how great a prospect looks in shorts and tshirts, but how he played in games that's a better indicator of what he'll do in the NFL. Miami gets a C+. The Pats did well with the picks they had, filling some needs on defense. The problem with the Pats' drafts since Pioli left is that they seem to miss on more picks than one would think. They've had success because they've had a lot of picks in recent drafts, so their numerous misses don't hurt so much. NE gets a C. I have two issues with the Jets draft. The first is the questions about Quinton Coples' motivation. If he decides he wants to be good, then the Jests are golden, otherwise, this is a big, big miss. The second is that the Jets did NOT attempt to address the OL in a draft that was deep in good OL talent. RT was an obvious need, but maybe Tony Sparano really is a miracle worker. The Jets also have issues at OG as well, being that their OGs are older and/or mediocre. Passing on the best OG prospect in about a decade, DeCastro, in the first or solid OT prospects like Mike Adams, Bobbie Massey, and Zebrie Sanders later might come back and haunt the Jets down the road. The Jets get a C.
Seriously??? What did you expect? You come to a Jets message board extolling the virtues of your team and you get upset that Jets fans don't agree with you? Of course Jets fans will not agree with you, this is their board.
Patriots- B. Their 1st round picks were excellent IMO. I also like the Bequette pick. The Tavon Wilson, Alfonzo Dennard picks though..head scratchers. Bills- A-. They filled needs without reaching. None of their moves made me say "WTF?". Miami- B-.They would get a D if they were any other team. However, I think Tannehill having experience with the coaching staff will make him into a far better QB than he would have been on any other team. I liked almost all of their other picks but Tannehill was a reach. That said, he didn't bring them down too far because of the familiarity with the coaching staff. Jets- B-. We got talented players but I cant say any of our top 3 needs were filled (OLB,RT,S). I think our guys have the ability to be really good, even down to the Bush pick, but I don't liek the fact that we still will probably have to start Hunter, Smith and Thomas or Maybin.
