agreed, and this is why i dont see the moss comparisons... he is alot more similar to chaz schilens and darius heyward-bay in my opinion. big fast guy who didnt produce much in college but has potential
because what you do on the field is more important then being big and running fast on a track in your underwear
DHB gives up a few inches to Hill and also was seen as a guy who was a poor blocker coming out of college. Hill is seen as probably the 2nd best blocking WR in his class. Schilens had nowhere near the hype of DHB or Hill and was ranked somewhere around 80th-90th in the country at his position. However, his measurables were very similar to Hill (though not quite as fast as Hill in the 40). Moss was projected to go much higher than Hill but dropped because of his personal/legal issues. There are plenty of comparisons to make but none of them are going to help us predict how Hill is going to play when this coming season starts. Let's just hope he turns out to be the next Randy Moss but without all of the personal issues. :up:
DHB and schilens are much better comparisons because not only are they similar size/speed wise but they produced similarly at the college level. Calvin Johnson dominated in college. Randy moss Dominated in college. Hill did not come close to dominating
I understand what you're saying, but my point is that you can compare him to tons of different guys depending on what measurements you want to use - size, speed, draft position, experience, stats, whatever. Perhaps his production in college was comparable to Schilens and DHB but you could probably come up with a hundred other guys who had similar stats and all different levels of success. All I'm saying is that whatever comparison you want to make now is just an entertaining excercise. The only fair way to assess the guy is to wait until he's played a season in the NFL and then we'll see what we've really got.
Agreed. Let not forget, Hill came from a triple option offense, didn't have the chance to really develop as a true WR or a great route runner. His natural abilities cannot be over looked. We don't know how good he will be as a pass catching receiver, but, we do know his a solid blocking WR.

Patrick Turner runs a 4.6 40 yard dash. He is also big. So he probably can't get separation or make cuts. The only time he sees the field is as a blocker. Sure he had that one catch way at the end of the season and if I recall correctly the route was a comeback route. I've never seen the potential short of maybe having him put on weight and play TE.

I was only being half serious, I doubt it means anything, but the way that people are still clamoring for Braylon I'm sure that some people will read something into it.
The GT QBs were complete garbage last year and they ran a triple option offense. Consider that when evaluating Hill's statistics. Just for comparison: Look at the opportunities Hill had compared to Blackmon and Floyd. I'm not saying Hill would have caught 121 passed if given more opportunities, but he made the most of the limited opportunities he had in the triple option. Oh yeah, he's also a pretty good blocker having played in that triple option offense. If he can catch 28 passes and 6 TD for the Jets this year he will be a success. That will open things up for Tone and Keller to work underneath, and keep a safety out of the box to help our running game.
It's not guaranteed that Hill will have a good 1st year, but if he does then it's great. If Hill can be the deep threat for Sanchez, then it will restore credibility. A lot of people compare Hill to Calvin Johnson. All I can say is if Calvin Johnson is Megatron, then Stephen Hill is Optimus Prime.
He is being compared to Megatron athletically people. Hill is one of 3 players EVER at the combine to be at least 6'4'' and run a sub 4.35 40 yard dash. Calvin Johnson, Stephen Hill and Randy Moss. Hill has a long ways to go to even coming close to garnering the success of those two likely HOF players. The good news is that his athleticism gives him unlimited potential. Whats also good news is that if he practices as hard as he talks about doing, we are going to get a much better player than what we invested in him (#43 overall selection) That said, he still has to go out and do. I still expect year 1 is going to have some incredibly amazing moments, and some absolutely horrendous ones as well for Hill.
All we know definitively about Hill at this point, is that he has as much physical potential as any player we've ever drafted. Whether he can turn that ability into NFL production remains to be seen.
