While I'm more guarded with my enthusiasm than Psycho, I mean Physco, still, the Bills have had one hell of an offseason. Hopefully, it'll actually mean playoffs, but after the current run of futility in Orchard Park, certainly you guys can understand the excitement with Bills fans this offseason. We'll know all we need to know after 10 games.
You obviously aren't used to an organization that actually speaks the truth about their feelings and intentions. Your fat ass coach spits pure shit out of his mouth and doesn't answer anything honestly. It's all a game to him. And by the way, Nix is smart enough not to trade away important draft picks to move up and draft a terrible QB.
You want to know what Buffalo is going to do next season? Watch the Jets, starting in game 1. If the Jets are on track and beat the Bills early then expect another off-season for the Bills. Maybe 9-7 tops and no likely playoff berth. If the Jets are off-course next year and lose to the Bills early? Then the Bills could do something. The road to the division title in the AFC East goes through the Patriots but the road to the playoffs goes through the Jets right now. Just watch them and you'll know where the Bills chances lie.
Yeah you're right. He is just smart enough to think his terrible QB is worth 60M and doesn't need to draft one.
If you knew anything about Fitz's contract, you'd know the Bills can get out of it cheaply at any time they want. It is back loaded, which gives the Bills the opportunity to build the rest of the team while Fitz is holding down the fort, and then find his replacement.
That's good for you I guess. At 2-6 By midseason you guys can start the QB watch. Year 13 of rebuilding!
I'll admit Buffalo will be better, but I don't think they're quite ready to challenge for the division yet. Of course anything can happen, but I don't see them beating out any team in the division except the phins. They may challenge the Jets for #2 in the division under the Pats but I highly doubt it. The Jets D is still much much better than Buffalo's.
I disagree. The Bills have a great coordinator this year and are actually solid all the way throughout the defense. The Bills added a pass rush, a 1st round corner, and better linebackers. The Jets D is old and slow, and Rex is forced to try to get pressure by bringing 5+ guys. Pace and Thomas are shells of what they used to be, and aren't premier pass rushers anymore.
The Jets don't blitz nearly as much as they did in 09. The league adapted and so did RR. Fact of the matter is RR has never had a defense ranked lower than 6th in the NFL. Piss on Wanstedt. Pace and Thomas were never premiere passrushers they're run stoppers and can engage the OL. Not flashy but serviceable players. Buffalo defense will be solid but Jets defense will continue to be top 5 like it has been the last 3 years under RR.
Which is exactly why we beefed up the D line 2 years in a row. The run D fell off last year, but it'll be back, and our secondary will be more effective with younger more explosive pass rushing. That opening game is going to be a doozy.
Bills are looking really interesting. I think they'll be better, but I've also kind of bought into some of their other rebuilds that never got it right, so who knows. Either way, they are putting together a tough D. Might sound weird, but I like to see a tough AFC East.
The Jets were the #2 record in the AFC East last year for the 3rd time in the last 3 years. If an AFC East team other than the Pats wants to make the playoffs they need to finish ahead of the Jets to do it. As of right now the pecking order in the AFC East is established as Patriots -Jets - somebody - else. Once the Bills or Fins beats the Jets out the pecking order will be reshuffled. For now it is what it is. In the last decade there have been 14 playoff teams from the AFC East: 8 Patriots - 5 Jets - 1 Fins - 0 Bills. That's your effective pecking order in the AFC East right now.
It still wasn't smart for the Bills to, mid-season, commit themselves to a situation where cutting Fitz after 2013 means $10 million dead, after 2014 means $7 million dead, and after 2015 means $4 million dead.
It is smart to keep any good QB in this league around. Is he a star? No. But he is a top 20 QB, and IMO, closer to 15. Fitz is good for this team as a starter while we are rebuilding the team. If we find a better QB, then he will be a great backup. You keep those guys around. It is difficult to find solid QB's in this league.
