I understand that Coples has potential, but what does a 3-4 lineman actually do other than take up space? Wasted pick IMO--just like Wilkerson was last year.

RT, S, Pass Rushing 3-4 OLB

5 years from now we will be wishing the Jets drafted Melvin Ingram and Mike Adams with their first two picks.

Enjoy watching slow footed Bryan Thomas, Calvin Pace, Bart Scott, and David Harris once again

Enjoy watching Eric Smith and the corpse of Jim Lehnoard

    Enjoy watching Wayne Hunter

Best player available according to the Jets board. That's a good thing. That Rex Ryan got more tools to create a truly great defense is also a good thing. Elite teams identify what they do well and they spend what it takes to make that happen.

The Jets of the last window ran the ball well. They controlled the clock some. That's the last window though. The Jets of this window will dominate teams on the defensive side of the field. That's what they drafted for the last few years.

They really need to fill the holes on offense but it's better they got very good players on defense than average ones on offense in this draft.

So enjoy a top 5 defense?

Wayne Hunter is a problem indeed.

If they keep loading up on the defensive side enjoy things like 2009 on a regular basis only shaped a bit differently.

The Jets have a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball now. They are a good linebacker or safety away from being as good as the Ravens and Steelers from a talent perspective.

The last i checked we drafted 2 safeties, got a #2 WR that will stretch the field(which was a huge need) and Q should help with the pash rush. Only weakness we left lacking was RT but we have TC cuts to look at upgrading that position

lol how can I take this thread seriously

First off you say Mo-Walk is a wasted pick

Second of all on what planet is WR not a huge need ?

We got some great value with antonio allen (safety) late in the draft, plus another guy who I dont like

Demario Davis is gonna be taking snaps from Scott, and Harris is fine so no clue what your complaint is there.

And id bet that having Coples on the field improves our pass rush.

So how do you make a thread complaining about our 3 biggest needs not being addressed, when its just some whining about nothing

    You guys are hilarious...

Right now Wayne Hunter and Eric Smith are starting next year. How can anyone defend that?

Well if they actually start it's pretty indefensible but that's months away.

The biggest potential pitfall next year for the Jets is that they leave camp with Hunter starting and Ducasse still on the roster and then the two of them cannot do the job. That would be headed for 8-8 again at best.

Wayne Hunter will flourish in Sparano's new scheme. Won't become an all-pro but will certainly play better than last year. Mark it.

new offensive scheme could fit Hunter's skill set better than Schottenheimers. Also, there is supposedly going to be a training camp battle for the RT spot with Vlad & Austin Howard.

and Eric Smith isn't a sure thing at starter. He was/is a SS and the Jets signed Landry to be their SS... the FS spot was the bit concern and the Jets drafted a guy they like and could still sign Leonard cheap or another TC cut

Right now we have Smith, Landry, and a couple of rookies' who are 6th and 7th round draft picks respectively at safety.

I'm willing to bet Smith starts over Allen and Bush.

    Really?

Does Sparano's system not require a RT who can block?

I agree with OT. I would have taken Massie in the 3rd (or maybe traded back up into the 4th to get him?).

But what S did you want the Jets to take? This was a weak class for safeties in FA and the draft. Should they have traded into the top 10 to reach for Barron? Smith was a reach in the first round too.

We dont just run a 3-4! And even so, Coples will cause havoc

Add to the fact that the CS seems high on Maybin and Ricky Sapp - and we could have some production at the OLB with little money spent

I'm just nervous about the RT position

Our biggest need was addressed: pass rusher

The jets have needed a pass rusher longer than they've needed a RT

    Quit bitching... holy shit.

Coples automatically upgrades our passrush. Stephen Hill fills a HUGE void and will help in both the run and passing game tremendously. Demario Davis will be a ST’s stud while playing on 3rd downs helping covering TE’s.

A huge need was to improve team speed. We fucking accomplished that perfectly. Coples is probably one of the most athletic DE’s, can run a 4.7 40 at 285. Hill can run a 4.28 and will stretch the field like no other and Davis is extremely athletically gifted- 4.5 40, benches 225 32 times and has tremendous explosion to the ball.

Allen was a steal in the 7th round and will be a ST’s ace while competing instantly.

Yeah, we didnt draft Melvin Ingram. But obviously Rex didnt like him as much as Coples, and Im pretty sure he knows more about defense than any of us. If you actually watch tape, Ingram cant be a tackle consistently, Coples can.

Add in that Maybin will increase his role and we a sitting pretty good if Vlad or Austin Howard can be just average.

They picked BPA and didnt give into so-called “needs”, which is how good teams draft.

I forgot that free agency ended already and we cant sign anybody.

Or maybe the Jets just thought theyd wait until after the draft to see if we landed a guy like Barron before going out and signing another safety.
