very good post bradwaysux! we have some holes, every team has some holes. but i agree they have decided on an identity and thats a huge positive. hopefully these kids they brought in become what we hope
a change in our offensive scheme with a run heavy coordinator will help a little bit. We have a really solid OL, hopefully Sparano can get the most out of it. I still think we need another solid RB to split with Greene, and I dont think McKnight or Powell is that guy. We need another LT type guy. We are going to miss his production. Greene cant catch passes for shit as we all know. We need a speedy pass catching 3rd down back (I really wanted Lamar Miller). McKnight MAY be able to do it, but he needs to get alot better this offseason.
I think Stephen Hill would help. Last year, there was no deep threat, no reason for teams to get out of the box. Plaxico was a joke as a deep threat. Hill is no joke. Plus, Hill is a willing blocker, and considered the best in this class, so that will help. Obviously, we need to do more, but there's still some late round picks left, let's see what happens.
1- Coples, Defensive Lineman. 6'6" 285lb, freakish ability. 2- Hill, 6'4" fastest WR in the draft. Will demand double coverage. Will pull coverage from Holmes, Keller, and Greene. Will change defenses and give Sanchez a pass target in 3 seconds or less, which will make Wayne Hunter the come back player of the year. 3- Davis, ILB. Super fast, sideline to sideline. Excellent blitzer up the middle. 4- Tebow, back up QB, TE, RB, WildCat, Special Teams. Took 2010 worst team in the league to 2nd round of playoffs. Not bad Tanny....Not bad.
True but it's actually 1 - Coples 2, 5, 7 - Hill 3- Davis 4, 6 - Tebow Still not bad considering we have 4 left.
I agree with the OP. Establishing an identity is a great thing. It was impossible to come out of the draft with all of our weak spots filled with new players. Our defense will be great again, we have some good new horses. I just hope that focusing on defense doesn't equate to neglecting the offense when we look back.
Hopefully we can get some nice special teamers as well. I'd like to see us draft a kicker and punter. Punting was one of our biggest strengths in 2010, but we dropped big time without Weatherford. We need to find the next weatherford. Draft a couple late round tackles as well and hope to hit gold.
Agree...Agree. Bad part is WE HAD Weathorford but lost him due to unusual circumstances with being in the top 4 and not being able to sign anyone unless we canned someone. I loved the way Weathordord would lower his shoulder and level dudes on punt returns. And seeing how the G-girls tagged him, I guess they agree.
We haven't had a guy that can flat out run past Corners in a very long time...Braylon ran a 4.45 at the combine, which is Corner speed.And we got him a few years later... Hill is a little thinner, a little shorter....and a little faster.(Though less polished...)
you're right...I was so busy looking at pages 6 1 1/2 stuck on me. Still thinner though. Braylon was a beast coming out.

This draft was shitty picking by a shitty GM. No OT, No P, or a K. This is why we don't win SB's now.
I don't think they had the talent to go ground & pound either. The OL was putrid at run blocking and Greene just wasn't the workhorse they expected him to be. The was no viable complement to him either as Tomlinson wasn't very effective running the ball. The Jets didn't have it at all on offense last year.
I am worried about our O line - Hunter sucks and Brick kinda looked bad at times too last year. But in terms of running the ball, I am less worried. Sure 3.8 yards per carry last year. But still that is 3.8 yards with a "genius" offensive coordinator, Mangold missing games, Slauson apparently injured most of the year and simply no commitment to the run. The run should improve with a simple run oriented scheme and a healthy Mangold. Oh, and if you believe Tanny, this guy Schladereff is a frickn stud.
