As much as I hate "paper" rankings... 1. Jets 2. Dolphins 3. Patriots 4. Bills I'm giving NE a slight edge over Buffalo mostly out of homerism, but they also gave up almost six more points per game than the Patriots did last year. I don't buy into the "yards mean nothing" argument because they do mean something... time of possession, if nothing else. But really it's all about points and not giving them up.
Belichik in his post-draft press conference: Reporter: "Where do you see Hightower playing?" BB: "On Defense"
Hey, if you want to keep the media down you have to starve them until they're reduced to writing about what the team actually did last year and might do this year. None of that wild speculation or drama that opening your mouth might produce. Belichik couldn't even bring himself to go off on Parcells at that news conference where he almost got shang-hai'd into fulfilling his contract by coaching the Jets. He just scribbled a few words on a post-it and walked off. That was the saddest day in NY media history.
All 4 four AFCE defenses will be competent and are improving but the NYJ has been top 5 three straight years and will always be effective under RR based on his history.
The Bills might make a run at #1 in the East, but frankly it will take more than 3 players to push the Pats from worst in the league to best in the East. I'd be more concerned about the Dolphins D than the Patriots D. That said, with the Patriots offense they don't need a #1 defense, just a middle of the pack one.
This. They made it to the Super Bowl with at best a mediocre D. Their 1st round picks lookk great and should help big time. 1st? Don't care but the Bills look the scariest right now.
With the two picks the Jets have made and the signing of Landry I think the Jets are by far still number 1 in the division and might return to number 1 in the league again.
