Future draft babies? Or Mike DeVito? Someone else? Who gets the axe?

Markelle Martin? George Iloka? A different position entirely?

    Brandon Taylor is gone man.

I dont see a trade up unless someone falls to the late 5th. I could see us trading our future 4th to get someone but beyond that we arent getting any picks besides the ones we have.

Ugh...scanned the board for his name twice don't know how I missed that.

I don't think we're looking to get an extra pick at this point. I just think we're looking to move up and add a meaningful FS or great value on a sleeper pick/player that fell through the first two days like Lamar Miller.

We already have 3 comp. picks sitting all around that 6th. Therefore the 6th provides us no extra utility therefore we should treat it as a commodity to be paired up with whatever we can dream up to turn it into a more valuable pick that we can benefit from right away.

A future 4th or 5th isn't much of a concern at all. We have some expendable backups in the front 7. We could save $3M by fencing DeVito. There are a million good options to swing a deal, rest assured Tanny is exploring all of them as we speak. There's no reason not to turn that 6th into a 5th or 4th.

I had a list somewhere, but I can re-type it here with the main impact players.

    3-4 OLB Ronnell Lewis, Oklahoma
    OT Bobby Massie, Ole Miss
    OT Zebrie Sanders, FSU
    FS George Iloka, Boise State
    FS Janzen Jackson, McNeese State

    OG Brandon Washington, Miami
    OG Senio Kelemete, Washington
    WR Tommy Streeter, Miami
    WR Marvin McNutt, Iowa
    WR Juron Criner, Arizona
    WR Jeff Fuller, Texas A&M
    RB/RS Chris Rainey, Florida
    RB Lamar Miller, Miami
    RB Chris Polk, Washington
    RB Robert Turbin, Utah State
    CB Brandon Boykin, Georgia
    CB Chase Minnifield, UVA
    ILB Nigel Bradham, Florida State

The guys I put in bold are the most relevant ones for us given what we've drafted in the first 3 rounds. I'd love to see us get Ronnell Lewis as a sub-package pass rusher and future starting OLB, even if it means trading our non-comp 6th rounder and a future 4th to get it done. Bobby Massie is an obvious target, but he's falling for a reason. I love those two safeties and think both would start as centerfield patrolling ballhawks. Boykin is a team captain who is falling and we'd have another capable slot corner.

If not Lewis, one of the OLs, or one of the FS, I'd love to see us get Chris Rainey. He is a rare playmaker that can create for himself and can provide a mismatch out of the backfield, out of the slot, and be a playmaking return man -- something we've sorely lacked since letting Brad Smith go to the Bills. He also has a ton of experience running the option with Tebow at Florida, so he could start in Wildcat sets with Tebow right away and give us a home threat on the option that we currently lack. Miller is a Day 2 talent, but he's also dropping for a reason.

We need a dual-threat out of the backfield, so I am leaning toward Rainey or Miller if we don't go for Lewis. Sanchez needs more help, one WR is not going to do it. A multi-purpose back is a QB's best friend as he can catch balls out of the backfield forcing linebackers and safeties to account for him on every play -- opening up the middle of the field and loosening coverage on TE Dustin Keller, WR Santonio Holmes, and the newly acquired WR Stephen Hill.

I agree that we shouldntrade up but i just dont see it. Maybe me saying we wont trade up is a good thing, worked last time right?

Im just so sure Devito can haul in more than a 6th, hes more valuable to us than that IMO but i just dont see teams trying to go get Devito for a 5th rounder.

There are only so many impact players left, where we get a safety will matter to me more than who it is, intially.

Also, Im probably dead wrong, but i have this feeling Lamar Miller may go undrafted. It happened last hear to McDaniel and Williams because of injuries, the same might happen to him.

Your argument surely has a good upside. However, it's important to note the difference is the FS's value comes from the weakness we open ourselves up to by shunning the position for an HB/whatever. If we wait until the comp picks to address safety we'll be one likely Laron Landry injury away from Eric Smith/Jim Leonhard Part Eleven. I'm a little sick of watching that movie. You know?

    I think you answered your own question. DeVito is a 6th. What's a 6th and a 6th and a future 6th?

I agree with you, he is more valuable to us than a 6th. But is he more valuable us than a 4th round pick and $3 Million towards the cap this year or next? I'm not so sure.

DeVito's main value to us at this point is his ability to let Coples play DT when we run a 4-3 set. We can always just run 4-3's with Coples at end with Pouha/Ellis DT's, so I'm not sure how valuable that really is....probably not very though.

The rest of his value will pretty much come from decreasing the dropoff when Coples or Mo come out for a blow. But we have other guys that can come in and make a respectable showing of themselves anyway...so that's hardly worth anything.

Whether we end up moving DeVito tomorrow or not...or even during the offseason....everybody is going to have to get used to the fact that DeVito just became the third wheel. He is not long for the Jets. I'll tell you another thing too. When I look at things like this it just tells me more and more just how brilliant this Tannenbaum/Rex regime is.

I've been thinking for years that we need to eventually force out DeVito before we can turn this into a true defense for the ages. A lot of level headed and smart Jets fans are staunch DeVito supporters though, and I always have taken flack for that whenever I say as much. He's a great player. He does his job well. He has amazing work ethic. You know the drill. The fact is, he can't just go and take over a game for you. Coples can. Wilkerson does albeit quietly.

Say what you want about the run stuffing Rex Ryan defense. I say anything a run stuffing DL can do...a passrushing DL can do better. Get a passrushing DL that also stuffs the run. Watch out.

Sure, Tanny made some mistakes early on. But he also had Eric Mangini and Schotty at the controls beside him. Now that Rex has come to town, I just watch the core of this team get stronger and stronger every year. I say to myself...I don't know how to do it, but we need to improve on DeVito. DeVito gets shuffled out in a reasonable time frame. God we need a deep threat. Stephen Hill. Jesus our linebackers are slow. Demario Davis.

Next year we get rid of Scott/Pace/Thomas all of the dead weight and the ripples they leave behind in their wake. We can finally address the Greene/McKnight what the fuck is our running games' identity paradox.

It looks like we're going to be able to address most or all of the depth concerns that have been holding us back the last couple years. This team is about to break out.

I would be absolutely floored if Miller goes undrafted.

IMO, he doesn't make it out of the 4th.

I'm really hoping for iloka but to trade In to the 4th where I think he will go, just don't see it happening.
