I know this is early to pronounce but with the 2 lbs the pats selected in R1 - they have retooled their unit behind wilfork and along side mayo.

    Not bad at all.

Kinda wished the jets took that approach - just saw them take wr hill in round 2....

Oh well maybe we strike gold somewhere later.

Pats are out in front till Brady goes. If they're still in front after that Woody is either going to sell the team or move to LA and lobby for realignment.

Pats just blew it with that reach pick!!!! Chandler was a developmental player. Hightower is solid.

U got that right. Gotta admit I am ok with our 2 picks but I was hoping for a bit more creativity on the jets part.

    Oh well.

With BB there is no such thing, especially at LB.

Many, many Pats fans called for bellicek (sp?) to be fired last year after Steeler regular season loss- go figure

I drive in new England alot- those fans are annoying

Now the Patriots make a moronic 2nd round pick. NOBODY had this guy in the first 3 rounds.

And now they only have 1 pick left.

But yeah, the Patriots drafted great. A+

Creativity give me a break. What is creative? Picking 2 LBs? Picking a monster DE with a huge ceiling but might not be a safe pick is not creative? Maybe we could have been real creative and drafted a kicker in the 2nd.

Pats recent history of drafting defensive players has been abysmal.

    Bad draft by Pats

Chandler is not going to make it at OLB he's a DE
Chandler is a project he is not a developed player even Mayock said he won't be ready for 3 years

Hightower is a decent player but he's never going to be a stud

the FS pick is a pathetic reach

Pats should have stuck with their old draft plan MORE PICKS not less PICKS so then there is less chance of busts

Creativity? Do you even know what the hell you're talking about? Do you want us to draft a clown in the first round? Maybe a gymnast in the third and line him up on third downs?

You can only take a ton of picks so often, go take a look at their roster and find 5 guys on it that are worse than what you get in the 4-7th rounds of he draft. It makes no sense for them to trade back this year since they would just end up cutting the guys at the end of camp.
Their FS move I don't get since I assume he would be there at least at 62 if not later ( i know he visited a few teams between those picks, but doubt any of them were a threat to take him)

Abysmal? Maybe not many homeruns, but certainly not abysmal. I'll match their pick against the Jets defensive picks the last 4 years.

Dowling was starting last year until he got hurt
McCourty had a rough 2nd year, but he was pro-bowler as a rookie
Cunningham is in the DL mix
    Spikes is a starter
Deaderick is a late round pick who contributes
Chung is a better than average safety
    Brace has been a bust
    Butler was a bust
    Mayo is a top LB
Pryor is a late round contributor

Pats drafted well, I think much better than recently. McCourty still baffles me. I have no idea how someone can drop off that much.

Pats biggest issue was their secondary, what did they do to fix that?

Drafted a safety and got 3 front 7 guys who can rush the passer. Secondary problems are often a byproduct of a poor passrush.

I don't think it was their biggest issue. I think McCourty could come back this year and Dowling was starting when he got hurt.

I think no pressure on the opposing QB is their biggest issue. You can have great cover players, yet if the QB has all to throw, receivers will eventually get open.

Look at the Jets. They have arguably the best group of corners in the league, yet because they couldn't pressure anyone last year, teams were able to throw on them.

I certainly have no idea who this guy is, but we won't know if this was a bad pick for awhile, much like we won't know about any picks really.

As far as the draft goes, the Pats knew they only had a few picks this year and that is why they've signed so many FA's to fill holes and compete for spots. They had 74 players under contract going into the draft. Most teams have in the 50's right now.
