Just wondering how far this guy will slide. I know he failed drug test already, had a bad junior year, and had a terrible combine and I have even read there are some that think he won't get drafted.

If that is the case and the guy is there in the 6th or 7th round am I wrong for wanting the Jets to take a chance with him? I mean a few months back this guy was a mid to late first rounder. I loved the energy he played with in college and I think he would bring an attitude to our defense that nice guys like harris and revis don't bring even with their high level of play. I also have read a lot that he is not a bad kid but just super competitive and he gets out of control if there's anyone that can teach him how to harness that energy and use it on the feild I think rex could do it. Thoughts?

I'd be up for using a late-round pick on him, assuming we've addressed some of our more immediate needs prior. I don't follow college football as much as I'd like, but from what I've read, the potential is there (wasn't he projected as a first rounder months ago?), it's just the documented issues.

Late-round picks often don't amount to much anyway, so what's the risk?

If they leave the upstairs window open at the crackhouse, probably two stories.

If he hasn't been taken by our last pick then we basically have to take him.

He was theoretically a 1st-2nd round prospect not too long ago so not taking him with a 6th or 7th round pick when we have five in total would be stupid.

Isn't this the guy who sent letters to all 32 GMs yesterday apologizing for lying about using marijuana and offered to defer his bonus for 18 months? That tells me he doesn't think he will be drafted at all.

ive been reading a bunch of articles about vontaze burfict and he seems to be a nice kid and all, he just makes dumb mistakes. his mom said that outside of football he is an extremely shy kid and nothing like he is on the football field. i also feel that him watching himself go through a freefall has hurt him so much that he'll want to prove everyone wrong and do well.

i'd definitely spend a 5,6,7 round on him. i think david harris and some of the other linebackers could open his eyes

I wouldn't draft this kid. He'll probably end up in rehab with Eric Ainge.

No, that was Mike Adams, who lied at the Combine when asked if he had smoked weed in the past year or two. Then he sent that letter of apology you mentioned.

He constantly makes mistakes, he isn't one of these kids who screwed something up once, or got caught up in a single incident.
He has consistently failed to take any accountability on or off the field, he doesn't stay in shape, he doesn't study, he doesn't accept coaching. He parties and smokes despite knowing he is freefalling. He tells teams he used to smoke pot but has since quit, then fails a drug test.
There is a reason none of his coaches or former teammates is out there saying good things about him like you usually see for kids labeled as character concerns.
His advantage was supposed to be that he was reasonably quick for 255-260 pounds, now he had to drop to the low 240's to get in the 4.8 range. He just doesn't have the physical skills to be worth a pick.
I watch a lot of ASU games, and he basically does nothing particularly well, he makes an occasional good play running to the ball (particularly against really bad teams) but he can't cover, can't shed blocks, doesn't rush well, he only plays hard 1 in every 2 or 3 plays.

Agree 100%. If he's there for one of the sixth round comp picks, I'd take a chance. It would give Holmes someone to get stoned with and gripe to.

I don't see why not. How many guys in the sixth round do you see with that kind of potential? If you think you have a shot at keeping him under control, pull the trigger and don't look back.
