*Reads 2 bullet points on ESPN about Coples cons*

*Is now an expert at evaluating draft picks*

Seriously people need to calm down. Rex is a former D line coach and defensive mastermind, if he saw something he liked in the kid, who are we to argue? It seems like enough shit was happening during his senior year to account for his supposed lack of motivation.

I like this pick. I would assume that we will position him at defensive end. I would assume that the contract will have some workout bonuses to get him up to 300+ lbs. We have MoWilk and if Ellis can cut it, we will have a DL that will control the line for many years to come.

In addition, this is only the first of 10 picks, and I can see them go after WR/OLB in round 2, and the other in round 3.

I like the thought process in this pick.

Coples is going to play LDE going up against the right tackle in the 3-4 defense.

Who do you trust - the sideline analysts or the coaches that go out and do the research? Also, Rex is a defensive expert and personally worked out this guy. I'm confident they made a good pick.

you guys are getting ridiculous about doubting coples. especially all this gholston 2.0 crap

If Coples plays as good as he really can he will be one of the biggest steals in this entire draft. Him wilk and ellis has us set for a decade up front if ellis can be at worst servicable. And I think he will take a leap forward this year.

I was just in shock cause I had a brainfart expecting decastro or ingram to be the pick simply because I assumed he'd be gone and literally forgot about him.

Im amped about this pick especially the more tidbits that come out pretty much refuting the only knock on him.

He's an absolute freak. People are crying about pass rushers in a class filled with alot of guys who aren't sure things. Coples and wilk will be collapsing the pocket big time for a long time to come.

He also strikes me as someone who felt lost and helpless cause of the shitstorm that went on at chapel hill. He's a young kid only human

He showed up at the senior bowl and basically sent a message to scouts "what motor issues?"

I think rex is the kind of coach who will get the most out of someone who has alot of attributes you simply can't coach.

Did nobody else see a lack of intensity in the highlights they played when the Jets picked him? He got shut down by Rutgers as well. I don't think I like this pick.

Just FYI, Nolan Nawrocki is a good evaluator of talent and I read his stuff whenever I can. He has a bit of a blind spot though and that comes out a lot in his evaluations. He basically over-analyzes players motivational issues, particularly black players.

I'm absolutely not suggesting that he's racist in any way but you see a lot of "lazy" type motivational comments from him year in and year out and the player he is talking about is never white. I think it's just a cultural blindspot on his part and I mean that, I'm not insinuating anything else.

I've been reading his stuff since he took over for Joel Buchsbaum and he's the first guy I go to when I want the skinny on a prospect. I've just learned to do my own filtering over the years also.

I'm on board with this (the bolded part).

Last week I mentioned in a thread (think it was the Dontari Poe thread) that if you can find players who consistently collapse the pocket in a 3-man front, then you do it and don't think twice. The idea that Wilkerson/Ellis/Coples can potentially do that is very exciting.

Looks like a branding of 3 overlapping omegas.

Jets looking very 4-3 to me going forward.

Calvin Pace played RE for the Cardinals. Mo Wilkerson plays LE. Quinton Coples plays 3T from the left and either Pouha or Ellis lines up on the nose. Demario Davis plays the weak side. David Harris at MLB. Bryan Thomas on the strongside.

That sums things up pretty nicely for me.

Logically, I question how Coples will fit into Ryan's scheme. But if Rex -- the guy who invented the fucking thing -- feels so strongly that he'll be an asset, then I'm on board.
