It could have been worse. Manish Mehta just Tweeted this: If they would have not only wasted their 1st round pick on Barron, but fucking traded up to get him? I would have been furious.
I will say, I was very glad to see they didn't trade up and, in fact, were looking to trade down last night.
I think this was fairly obvious. No real choice besides DeCastro there. He's simply too good of a player to pass up for most anyone....besides Coples.
I think this means they really weren't in love with any of the other pass rushers such as Ingram, Jones, and Upshaw. Edit: And now Mehta has tweeted that the Jets had a low 1st round grade on Ingram.
I read on another site that if Coples hadn't fallen they had a trade down in place to take McClellin. So take this stuff with a grain of salt.
Wow. I really hope Coples works out to be better than McClellin and another pick. I'm not sour on the Coples pick but extra picks would have been nice.
So where will he play? Too small for 3-4 end, no motor for 3-4 olb. Sorry, I don't get it guys. Gohlston v2
not necessarily to small. In a 3-4 there are multiple Fronts were the Line will consist of 4 just different shifts in positioning of the line. He will be on the edge inside or outside
Lol, better than Maybin...I hope so. If you could put Maybin's motor in Coples body you might be on to something.
Neither of those issues you identify were reasons why Gholston flopped, so your conclusion makes no sense.
Originally, wanted DeCastro. However, reading more about Coples & Rex/Tanny press conference have made me feel good about the pick. Some posters on our forums saw him last season & like him a lot. Gotta admit, I was looking forward to Mangold/Decastro just opening up holes in the middle while Jets just smash mouth straight upfield.
v2 as in the second recent flop at pass rusher. It wasn't even a need for Buffalo but I was really high on DeCastro. He would have been a great pick for your ground and pound.
Yeah, I'm sure Rex Ryan probably forgot to consider where on the defense he would play before taking him.
I regret Coples falling to 16. DeCastro was the safest pick in the draft IMO and the Steelers got a steal at 24
