He is Jets should switch to a 4-3 instead of wasting another pick on an OLB. They need a FS and SS and they need a RT and a WR and a RB that's a lot of needs for this team. Instead of drafting a LB to play the 3-4 they draft another DE one position they didn't need. Now they still have to add an OLB it's ridiculous when you could have added INGRAM and then gone RT/WR/FS now they have to add a OLB. Thomas and Pace and Maybin won't be taking you to a SB.
No one ever said Ingram took plays off, was selfish, had a weak motor, etc The worst they ever said about Ingram was he had short arms. I'd rather have a big heart high motor short armed olb then Coples.
Ignorant ass? From a 22 year old Jets fan? I'm damn near twice as old as you, been a fan since birth and haven't even seen them play in a SB. Plus, if you had read some of my posts kid, you'd see that I said I hope he is awesome, but I think it is fair to criticize the pick. I love how you think I hope he sucks. Keep having blind faith in the Jets newbie sunshiner. Good luck with that.
I only saw like 2 mocks that projected this guy as a top 12, and that's out of double digit mocks I read.
Because the opinions of the talking heads are totally infallible, right? I'll take Rex Ryan's personal choice after seeing him play, workout, and act over whatever bullshit predictions (guesses) Stephen A. Smith or whoever the fuck makes. You haters are absolutely absurd. Because he is freakishly athletic and someone who doesn't know him made a comment about his 'heart' DOES NOT make him Vernon Gholston. As a matter of fact, 50% of those things are good qualities, and 100% of those that are measurable are good qualities. If I'm not mistaken, the measurable stats are the primary focus of the draft. Hell, as far as I'm concerned, I'm glad the pundits claim he has a "weak motor" because those comments gave us an excellent value pick. I guarantee he is at least a plausible starter in the NFL, and I say that based only on the fact that he was chosen by Rex. You'd probably take plays off if you were by far the best player on a team that has no chance of doing anything real. Maybe he won't take plays off if hes not playing Division 1 football for a team that was never ranked. Maybe he didn't think it was totally worth it to bust his ass 100% of the time to finish tied for 4th in the coastal division, and I wouldn't blame him. It's totally plausible that he felt that taking those plays off wouldn't change the game, a thought that he would have been correct in thinking. He was playing for UNC, so essentially he was only there to display his talent to scouts; they're a .500 team no matter how hard one of their D-Line plays. Maybe he figured, "Hey, if I just chill for a play, I'll be able to really show em how good I can be on the rest of the plays." Who the fuck knows? You certainly don't. You might get bored too as the only pro-caliber player on a defense full of chumps. Scratch that, team full of chumps. How about we wait a week before we start deciding if hes gonna take plays off. Would that be OK with you assholes? One week of objectivity? How about, just this once, you don't all pretend you 'know' anything about any of the players drafted, because all you really know is the weak opinions of a bunch of people who are CONSISTENTLY wrong about draft picks. For fucks sake, your supposed to be happy when you get a top-10 pick at 16. Your minds are warped. The way this works is as follows: Fans, even skeptical ones, should have a little bit of trust in our staff. This is considered an excellent pick until Coples proves that he's a bust, not the other way around. You don't label your first round pick a bust the day of the draft and keep that opinion until they prove themselves, you morons. All you haters must lead terribly miserable, pessimistic lives.
that's a silly comment. this regime hasn't been here for 40 years. you can only judge them on what they've done the past three years, and that's been pretty good. I have faith that Rex and Pettine can coach this kid up into being a very good player. time will tell.
Guys are acting like drafting him means we have no shot at the SB This is pathetic, no matter what they do its wrong according to the fans who obviously have a great history of drafting and developing players
Mayock had him at 12 Three separate Mocks at Walterfootball had him at 9, 9, and 12 Draft countdown had him at 12 Thenfldraftguru has him at 12 Sbnation had him at 12 Mike Lombardi had him at 12 on NFL.com Casserly had him at 12 on NFL.com Pat Kirwan at CBS had him at 7 Bucky Brooks at NFL.com had him at 9 I think I made my point, but finally, patsdraft.com and nepatriotsdraft.com had him at 12. Stop
So you hear a few comments from some "expert" and just repeat them over and over again? What the hell do you know about the guy's heart or motor? How many UNC games did you watch over the past few seasons? If you're going to criticize the pick, at least have some intelligent reason behind it rather than just regurgitating some bullshit you heard on TV. Tebowner.
possibly one of the dumbest posts ive read on here in about a year of following. you honestly are suggesting implementing a whole new system because of one rookie? change the whole front 7s responsibilities, blitz packages, 6+ years of bringing in guys to fit a 3-4 scheme because of him? you must be a tebower based on your march 2012 sign up and i doubt youve really ever followed the game.....
If he was a Top Ten pick, then why'd he drop to 16? Almost 1/2 the teams in the league didn't think he was worth it.
I like Ingram, but look as his tape. He's no edge rusher; he can't get around tackles. He had by far the most success against interior linemen. I think he ends up being a damn fine 3-4 ILB for some team, but it probably takes him a while to get there. Short arms are far from his only issue. I still think the Coples "character issues" bit is way overblown. By his own admission, his production wasn't up to snuff due to the turmoil around him. You can't blame him for that. I caught a few UNC games this past year and I never saw a level of effort that was any worse than any other lineman that I've watched played - he just looked out of place as an edge rusher. I have nothing against the team going BPA. Rex worked both him and Ingram out personally and liked Coples more in this D. I'll trust him on that.
You can read all the other posts in the thread that refer to mock drafts listing him going 9-12. Sorry, top 12 pick. He dropped because word started getting around about his "heart" and whether or not he has any. If you had actually read my post rather than skim it till you found something you thought was an error, you would have seen nearly the same sentence there. You can go ahead and read my other post for my opinion on his "heart." Lets keep judging our top pick on something we cannot measure. Even better, lets do it on the night of the draft, long before 90% of the forum has even seen a large enough sample size of his play to formulate a valid opinion. Good plan, Jets fans. I hate you guys on draft day. By the way, I'm glad you totally missed the entire point of my post and decided to attack a technicality. You clever boy, you. PS: Just because a team didn't pick him doesn't mean they didn't think he was worth the pick. Plenty of teams draft for needs, which means they could have ignored DE's, including our own new toy. To simplify: Teams drafting for needs that didn't need a DE would have ignored Quinton Coples regardless of his perceived worth. Get it? PPS: According to you, 13 teams didn't believe Revis was worth their time. So by that logic I couldn't possibly care less what other teams in the league think of players because they're often wrong as well, furthering my point that everyone should just chill for a minute and enjoy what could be.
Here you guys go again. This reminds me of the season, those sunshiners love dismissing any negative opinions of the team. IMO I like the pick because it shores up our dline. There are other rounds for us to fill other needs (hopefully olb, safety, oline)
