When you put it like that it makes sense, frankly I dont love any pass rusher. I could see why people can get upset about passing on Floyd but you can get tall guys later in the draft
Love it!!! I'd settle for Jones at 16, but I'd much rather pick up some extra picks and get him if we can. I don't think there's a huge difference between many of the big pass rushers, and Jones has as much upside as any of them. I'm not sure if he's a 3-4 DE or a 3-4 OLB, but whatever he is, Rex will put him in a position to succeed. At that point, I wouldn't be shocked if we traded back up in round 2, maybe even into the tail end of round 1, to grab a guy like Amini Silatolu.
Let's finish this mock... 2. OG Amini Silatolu, MIdwestern State - Jets move up a bit in round 2, trading a 5th and 6th this year and 4th next year. 3. WR Brian Quick, Appalachian State - Huge, fast receiver who has all the physical tools you need but is very raw. 3. S Brandon Taylor, LSU - Jets need a young safety to groom. Taylor is a perfect fit. 5. RB Cyrus Gray, Texas A&M - Young runningback the Jets can use to compete with Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight to be Greene's main complement. 6. CB Omar Bolden, Arizona State - Coming off a bad injury, would have been an early round pick had he been healthy. 6. DE/OLB Delano Johnson, Boise State - Kick/punt blocking fiend who can be a good depth/special teams guy. 7. WR Toney Clemons, Colorado - Big, fast developmental receiver 7. S Josh Bush, Wake Forest - Opportunistic DB who can help on special teams 7. DT Ronnie Cameron, Old Dominion - Small school DL who has some tools to work with
I'm just going to keep responding to myself. Do you really think the Jets would trade down in that situation? If they like Jones as much as it sounds like they do, would they really move down and hope he slips to them at 23? That's the move I would make, but I'm not sure if that's the move Tanny would make.
The reason I traded down 5 spots, they're still at least 5 pass rushers still available. Ingram Upshaw Jones McClellin Perry Mercilus So they're options.
It's not the talking to yourself that scares people, it's when you start answering that they worry. Honestly, the jets drafts are a bit of a mystery. We know that tanny likes to target guys and move up, know he likes to trade picks for. Vets, but the last two drafts he has stood his ground and taken what has fell to him. We could do any number of things tonight and none would surprise me totally.
Love the trade-back, but not a fan of the pick. Jones looks stiff in his movement and doesn't seem to have that burst the Jets have been lacking for years and I would love to see them find this year (Bruce Irvin, perhaps?). Looking at how you have it falling 1-22, Dont'a Hightower is the only player I would be happy with picking at 23. Not that I think the others aren't capable, but Hightower feels like the only safe pick at that spot...
