The way I see it is that the anti-holdout clause is a bunch of bullshit. I highly doubt he holds out THIS year, because like you said you can't squeeze blood from a stone. BUT, next year if he wants to hold out that silly clause won't stop him. If he held out, one of the following would happen: 1) The Jets would eventually cave and meet his demands with a new contract. The new contract would not include the cheap through 2016 horse shit or his agents would never agree to it. 2) The Jets would trade him and his new team would sign him to a new contract. The new contract would not include the cheap through 2016 horse shit or his agents would never agree to it. 3) The Jets refuse to negotiate or trade him and he is essentially forced into retirement. That would be as foolish as burning money on the Jets part as they could have received some trade value for him. I don't get why anyone thinks that clause actually protects the Jets from a holdout.
yeah i guess you're right, atleast sanchez is a team player and would renegotiate his contract so we could bring better players on. it would just be tough to see the one superstar the jets have leave in my opinion.
It is not about the money, it is the principal. He held out, and at that time I thought it was a good move on his part. He deserved to get paid, and if he didn't he wouldn't have gotten his payday. If he holds out again after getting paid, fuck him.
Revis is a cornerback. He takes 1 player out of a game. I am not going to pretend I don't want him on the Jets, but enough is enough.
I don't care who he retires with, and I haven't seen any teams win the Super Bowl the last 5 years with a Revis quality CB on the roster---because there is no CB other than Revis like that. So some teams know how to build SB winners without Revis. Too bad we don't. He could bring back a lot.
Couple of things: 1) Downplaying pass rush by showing Ware and Matthews doesn't really tell the story of the Giants pass rush, which has FOUR above average pass rushing DEs and DTs who can rush the passer a bit too. The Cowboys have Ware, and little else. Same for Packers. 2) The Giants offense allows these pass rushers to pin their ears back bc their offense scores 3) The first time Revis held out, I held no ill will towards him. If he does it again I'm going to end my support.
Why can't they draft / acquire some decent pass rushers AND keep Revis..... if so watch the turnovers commence. * I don't see a Hershel Walker type trade occurring again in this day and age
I said he was a selfish money grubbing egocentric player before and during the 2010 hold out and got flamed for it by all the Revis worshipers. Now it is being proven that he is a selfish player who cares only about how much he is paid. After giving an interview to ESPN about a month ago where he talked about being a leader in the offseason with Mangold, this hold out talk is even more maddening. I lost quite a bit of respect for him two years ago. Another hold out and I will have lost all respect. And for those Jets fans that say Revis is no different from other star players and that players should aim to make as much money as possible, I ask you how does Revis holding out make your fan experience better? It doesn't. It sucks for the fans and hurts the team. And how many other NFL players have held out for each of their first three NFL contracts? I can't think of any. That puts him in a class of one - the class of greedy me first screw the team just pay me. Leader my ass. He is as bad for team chemistry as Holmes. At least Holmes is up front with things. Revis is a sneaky asshole.
Now that we have Tebow on the roster do we even NEED Revis?????? With Batman and Robin controlling the clock for 58 minutes a game, Revis won't even see the field. But he IS a good cheerleader.
I had a late night hiyepiphany that I want to share. If the Jets didn't draft Sanchez and Greene (and didn't trade up to draft them), they could've taken Freeman, McCoy, and Mike Wallace. Just sayin. Didn't want to create a thread so I belligerently decided to post it here. And seriously though I only thought this was relevant because Freeman went where the Jets traded out of and McCoy/Wallace were picked within a few spots of where the Jets originally sat.
I don't understand the logic behind the argument that we become a better team by trading our best player. The only way that would be a possibility is if the picks we got for him all panned out, and they wouldn't. Revis is a proven commodity; a true all-pro and most likely a hall of fame player. We would not be a better team if we traded him. Yes, we would get a lot for him, but who is to say that everything we did get for him would pan out?
It's pretty easy to say three years later, "Had the Jets done everything perfectly, this is what we could have had." Scouting/drafting is an educated crapshoot. The fact that Wallace made it to the 84th pick says as much. Freeman surpassed expectations early, but he was signficantly worse than Sanchez last season. Because getting draft picks is good business. If you reel in, say, two first rounders for Revis, you have the chance at two studs who make less money combined than Revis, and get younger. Getting 2 1sts for Keyshawn Johnson was win-win. TB bought a Super Bowl, and we filled the team out: Netting two out of Ellis, Abraham, Pennington, and Becht. Becht wasn't the receiver we thought he was, but he was a solid blocker for C-Mart at least and managed to stick around the league through '11. Abraham didn't stick around, but he ended up becoming Nick Mangold.
I agree with the Key trade. That was a great trade. But Revis is a special player, way beyond what Johnson was. His only downside is that he is a greedy fucker. But given the recent draft history of this team, the chances that they get two productive studs with whatever picks we could get for Revis are not very good. Hell, Tannenbaum would probably use both picks to trade into the top 10 again and get just one player. I don't trust him to do the right thing in the draft any more. With all that in mind, I just don't see that trading him would make us better in either the short or long term. **Addendum** I know Tanny has drafted some good players, but overall he has missed on more than he has hit on. His penchant for trading up has cost us a lot of picks, and those moves have not worked out well overall. I think we're better off making Revis happy, and surrounding him and Sanchez with more talent using the picks we have.
Not to mention Herschel Walker was a game changer and Revis is a cornerback..a good one but certainly no game changer. Anyway, he is untradeable right now (another brilliant Tannenshit contract) and this explains all the reasons why as has been pointed out earlier. http://www.nyjetscap.com/2012_Articles/reviscontract12.php
