And one more thing. I still can't believe why people are crying out loud for that blocking TE. Let me make this clear: 1. A blocking TE that can stretch the field is once-in-a-decade type of talent. Surely worthy of high 1st round pick. 2. Blocking the LBs? That's what fullbacks are for. 3. Yeah, TEs need to block. Who do they block? THE SECONDARIES. The SAFETIES and whatnot. Does the TE need to be 275lb monster to do that? HELL FUCKING NO. Remember. During the heyday of the Dallas Triplet. Who was the TE during that time? It was Jay Novacek in earlier portion of the run - was he that intimidating run blocker every LB fears? HELLO? He did block well - but he wasn't asked to take on the LBs. Ground - and - pound does not have to mean you are sacrificing everything just for the sake of getting the running game going. In case of the Cowboys, they had a very effective play in place (Lead Draw, for instance) and had a very effective blocking scheme as well. Couple that with deep threat of Alvin Harper and Michael Irvin, and intermediate threat of Jay Novacek. That's how that offense stayed nearly unstoppable for almost a full decade. Now, Can Keller block like a linemen? NO? And why do you think Jets should force him into something he cannot do? That is not how you put the player into a position where he can succeed. That's more like hammering the player into the role he cannot succeed in. That's typical Mangini, and (in terms of wasting the given talent) typical Schottenheimer.
Well D, you'll have two NY Football teams to root for. The New York Sanchez's and the New York Tebows.. Why does this franchise feel the need to reinvent the wheel.... You'd think with a marginal offense last season, not to mention bringing in a new OC this year, they would keep it simple until folks actually get up to speed but nooooo, they'd rather complicate the shit out of the situation. Whatever...
Because we have a head coach who has no clue what he's doing on offense They could of kept things simple instead they want to complicate things and try and out smart an opponent Have we tried this before with Schotty? If Sanchez doesn't play well the locker room will rift again and Rex most likely loses his job along with Tanny Way to roll the dice
This is dishonest. They did the exact same thing with Brad Smith here, just to a lesser magnitude. Further: it worked. In fact, without Smith and a decline in the usage of the wildcat also helped the Jets offense decline from previous years. Further, our new offensive coordinator actually knows how to run this type of system, unlike the last guy who wanted to run his own system with sprinklings of what Rex asked for.
Exactly. Remember the time that Weatherford elected to run from the 19 - I think two years ago? I think Jesus could have converted that if he was in the PP position.
If I remember the same play you are talking about, Weatherford did that on his own and he was a yard short because he thought it was 4th and 9 not 4th and 19 or something like that. It wasn't a designed fake punt, Weatherford called his own number
weatherford had a set of parameters that allowed him to make the call.if he saw certain things he could run the fake.i remember westy saying he should have told him not on 4th and 19. if tebow is the p.p. then they will probably give him the same kind of guidelines and the green light
Yeah, it will be interesting. I wonder if it can even buy the punt blocking crew an extra half second? Someone, whether it be one or two players, are going to have to hesitate everytime to make sure Tebow didn't get the snap
I never even thought of that possibility, that has to add an extra dimension for the opposing special teams/defense. And HAHA@ the tebot who's worried our BACK UP QB might get hurt on ST. We had fucking Brunnell as our back up last year, ie: Sanchez down = season over.
I'm pretty amped about our ST. Westie's consistently been the best in the biz and is, by all measures, the most consistent coach on our team. All that being said, I think it's kind of awkwards to be this intrigued by ST play -- I wonder if other teams' fans get excited about theirs...
I'll be excited if Tebow is actually regularly playing snaps on ST, because it's a scenario you will rarely see in most teams.
i just read 2 pages and nobody seems to be concerned that these guys are going to run 2 offenses... 2 more years till no more sanchez, then we can finally have a real nfl offense.
Well I'll admit that Tim Tebow lined up as the PP on marginal punting situations is going to be scary as hell for the defense. The ball is at midfield and it's 4th and 4 and Tim Tebow is lined up 5 yards deep over the left guard and the punter is behind him. What the hell do you do on that play as the defense? Just not rush?
Am I the only person in the entire fucking world who thinks that the read-option, which is what Tebow ran in Denver, is NOT the same thing as the wildcat?
It's not the same thing at all, you're correct. But the "read option" is really just one play anyway. It's only real significance is that represents a way to run the ball effectively out of the shotgun. If you can run the ball effectively out of shotgun, it opens a whole lot of opportunities. Because it goes against the conventional thinking that you have to be under center to really run the ball. If you can run it with read option out of shotgun, it can enhance your passing. Not to make too much out of one play, but that touchdown Tebow threw to Demaryius Thomas in OT versus the Steelers was out of a look that faked the handoff to McGahee from shotgun. It was essentially the read option, play action.
We have Westy, so we are allowed to get excited. Like the scenario Bradway posted below I don't know what you do.. I guess opposing coaches would have to respect the fact we can pick up a fourth and short with our punt team consistently? Also would Tebow be our holder in FG and XPs? There is that touch and a "play" that can add up to the Rex Ryan 5-20 comment.
