Michael Brockers would be another guy I would look at. Not a need, but you can make a strong case for him being BPA.
Mayock was not too kind to Glenn last night. I know, one man's opinion but I respect what he says. I would vote for a trade down if you can find a partner. Maybe with the Lions at #23 who will want the 2nd best CB before Cincy picks. At that point take best pass rusher left (Upshaw, Perry, Mercilus, Branch, McClellin) or Hightower. If you have to stay at 16, at this point i say go with Upshaw...he's a "bowling ball with knives."
That's how I'd pick unless Rex was having a heart attack because Coples was there and we weren't taking him. I don't like Coples because of the attitude concerns however he's clearly in the top 10 players in this draft in talent and you could make an argument he is top 6.
Brockers would not be BPA at 16. Probably the 2nd most overrated player in the draft. SMH. The thought that you would prefer Jones over Upshaw is just sad... Just because Upshaw isnt the most athletic man and hasnt had great workouts doesnt mean he cant throw down on Sundays. The man is a football player who is 10 times more pro ready than Jones. Cmon man, stop drinking that hype juice.
I would MUCH rather Perry at 16 than trading up for Ingram and giving up our whole draft. But I wouldnt mind gambling a little and trading down 3-5 picks, adding a 2nd or 3rd and then picking Perry (if hes not there than Hightower or Upshaw).
Tannehill is most over rated based solely on his position. Poe's athleticism is amazing, his football ability? not so much. Barron is over rated because this class blows. Zach brown isn't really over rated much in NFL circles based on what I am hearing. Stephen Hill is going to surprise some people in the NFL. If he goes in the second half of round 1, he will prove to be good value in my opinion. (Prove as in, eventually prove his worth)
Brockers is one of the most overrated players in this draft. His quick rise is a concern, buyer beware. Poe is a physical freak, but his production sucks, he scares the crap out of me....stay away. Tannehill's value is high cause he's a QB and teams are in dire need of their "future franchise QB". Rd 2 rating...high Rd 1 need in the draft. Fletcher Cox is finally getting the recognition he deserves, great athlete that makes plays. I like Barron more than most on this site, he's a very good athlete and a very physical player. My main concern is his ability to stay healthy. A healthy Barron in the NFL is going to be a solid safety.
Speaking of Barron specifically, thats how i look at him as well 'solid' Not special. If I am taking a safety in the top 20, I expect him to be a difference maker. I don't see Barron as that guy. I see him as an average-above average starter for 7-8 years.
I commented on Tannehill in another thread, but way off on Barron and Hill. Barron is actually really underrated by a lot of people here. He's absolutely a first round talent, and could easily see him taken around pick 20 (yes, even as high as 16). He's a much better athlete than people seem to think and I think a big reason for that is that many sometimes get way too caught up with Strong and Free safety labels. There are a lot of teams that won't even have a true distinction between their guys, or have guy that may be listed certain ways, but have the ability to play both. Barron is as tough and aggressive as anyone is going to find from the safety spot. He's a big play guy, competitive with receivers, and I'd trust him one on one vs, any ballcarrier he'd see at the next level. I get the feeling that people think he can't cover at all, but he's a great read and react player. Man coverage he's not great, but not that many safeties are. His intelligence will put him in positions to make plays, and that is what's most important. As for Hill, he is a beast. I've made comments on him in other threads, but I'll repeat that he has everything an NFL could be looking for in a receiver. He's a better prospect than D Thomas was because he actually has this natural look at the position. His body control is 2nd to maybe just Jeffery, and has a well rounded physicality. He's probably underrated if you think about it, because had he played anywhere else he'd be a top ten pick.
I don't mind taking heat for my opinions and I believe Barron is going to have a better NFL career than most Jet Fans are predicting. When Barron is healthy, he's a tremendous player. We just don't rate safeties very high, unless they're super elite, like Berry, who is once in decade player at his postion. I've watched Barron read and react to running plays instantly and make impact hits. Barron also is a better than average in coverage. Barron's health is 64 million dollar question.
IMO, Poe is the most overrated player in this draft, but some of his hype has decreased because of time passing from the combine. Tannehill is just “overrated” because of position. Barron is overrated by those who think he is a very special safety solely because of the classes poor depth. Brown has assumed better value, mid 2nd, which is a lot better than back in like january where people were hyping up his athleticism. Yeah Hill is overrated, but he has the best skill set in terms of athletic ability and potential out of any WR in this class (his obvious criticism is the routes he ran, or lack there of, but that can be taught)... He actually fits exactly what the Jets need right now- big WR that can stretch the field, physical run blocking WR and a big redzone target. This is the way I look at Barron. He will be a very good pro if he can stay healthy and will probably be around 5-8 at his position, but will never be that special safety that you look for when spending a top 16 pick.
