Just wait until he hits the open market. He'll be asking for the largest contract a defensive player has ever received and pointing at his likely standing as a top 5 CB all-time when he does so.

Mario Williams isn't even in the top 50 pass rushers all time.

So your definition of a non-throwaway draft is to pick up at least 1 elite player a year? in that case, 9 out of 10 drafts are throwaway.

I dont want them to re-sign him now. He can play out this year at a minimum and I would trust the FO to do what they think is best with him 12 months from now. He does not deserve another contract right now, no one in the league would after a hold out two years ago and earning 32.5 over that stretch.

He'll want us to break the bank, and maybe its the best thing for us - but maybe shipping him out next year, or making him playout his final two years is the move.

All that list tells me is that you better have an elite QB or a shit load of stars if you want to win a lot of games.

Yes it is, deep down he's still Mevi$ and when your Uncle and Closest Confidant was a greedy POS and it paid off, you know Revis is going to get an insane contract - especially since he is actually really good unlike his Uncle.

ed reed is a top 5 all-time safety and when he re-upped his deal he got the best deal ever for a safety, not the best deal for any defensive player ... if revis wants to renogitate next year he can expect to get the best deal ever for a corner, not the best deal for any defensive player

if he plays out his contract and hits the open market then hes entitled to what the market dictates hes worth

Pretty sad that the general vibe about Revis seems to be so cynical. Here we have possibly the best guy at his position that's ever played for the Jets and people are pretty much fine with the idea of him being traded as long as we get a good deal. While I don't totally disagree that a trade could work out well for the Jets, it's just too bad that star players so seldomly get to play out their careers and create their legacy with a single team. I guess it's just the nature of the game these days.

I'd like to see Revis play out his career as a Jet but I realize there's very little chance of that happening.

There is no way a CB will command the amount of money a DE/OLB will get.

I think it all flows back to the whole holdout/Mevi$ carry on.

If Revis was a UFA I honestly think that he would get a deal similar to Williams.

I'm at the same point as you. I don't fault Revis for wanting to make the most money possible, but I would love for him to stay a Jet for his career.

A trade does make sense because I think the Jets could make out like bandits. I hope it doesn't come to having to trade Revis, but it very well might

The best deal ever for a CB would be about $51 million for 3 years.

I really hope we can get a nice compensation package for him next year. As great as he is, it just doesn't make sense from a team building perspective to keep him around.

I just wish the Rex is Great thing would make him take a 5 yr $50 million deal. Won't happen in a million years but it would be great if it did.

this is the problem with us fans. we far too often dont judge the talent on the team we root for subjectively. the guys listed are far from amazing and one could argue that a few of them are below average.

that's true but you could also say as a (Jets) fan that we always think the grass is greener on the other side, that all we see in our own players are their faults and that everyone else's players are better than ours because all you ever normally see of them is a highlights reel.

Very good point. We do focus more on the faults of our own players because we see them on a week to week basis with the team. We also overrate how good a player actually was once they leave.

The Jets would be much better off trading him for a couple of 1s then give him a contract like Mario Williams got..well, they should be better off but we can't forget who runs our draft.

I am sure U R aware that no CB ever won a SB. Since we are a long, long way from winning one in the next 3/5 years Tanny made a huge error in NOT trading him this off season to obtain both players & more draft choices
