Yeah wide receivers never get past our corners, leaving the receiver 1-on-1 with a safety who is responsible for tackling said receiver. Oh wait....
Last Season made me miss Kerry Rhodes. Unfortunate ending to his Jet career but he went from a 4th round pick to a stud at the position I give him a lot of credit
Yea I'd take him over Leonhard and Smith any day. Rhodes was very underappreciated. Classic case of one person saying he doesn't do one thing well, then everyone else harping on it and acting like he's a cancer. *see Carmelo Anthony*
kerry rhodes was great for the jets and could cover the deep half of the field. not terrific at anything inpaticular but an all around good safety. he also had great size which we are lacking now
Surprisingly enough we did miss him, but the way the defense played in 09, he didn't fit well. They needed sure tacklers, and he wasn't one of them. Now looking back, we needed a safety who can range around, but then it wasn't necessary. I think the bigger problem was the Brodney Pool move not working out and then trading Lowrey. I don't think the FO office took the FS position seriously since Pool had concussion problems and they traded the depth they had behind him. This is nothing like Carmelo Anthony. As a Knicks fan I disagree completely, but that argument is for another day.
They used the failed physical excuse so they could avoid paying certain guarantees in his contract. Raheem Morris was his biggest supporter and new coach Greg Schiano didn't want an off-field issues FS holdover on the team. Jackson is 26 and has a ton of talent -- a lot of evaluators would have told you a few years ago he was one of the best free safeties in the NFL at 24. Definitely worth a shot if he will be 100% healthy by June. He's known for being tough and playing through injuries which he tried last year -- but predictably struggled as he couldn't move around like he wanted to with shoulder and groin issues. Would love to see a two year deal, first year minimum veteran.
Guy gets a bad rep for not doing something well (Rhodes tackling, Melo's defense) and all of a sudden becomes the person everyone wants to point fingers at. Meanwhile, the alternative is praised anytime they play well (Leonard, Gallinari). I'd say there are a lot of similarities. And I too bleed orange and blue!
