Martin visited with the Jets. I expect him to be available at #16. All this pass rushing talk in Rd 1 could be moot. Generally, I don't like spending a 1st Rd pick on a RT. Martin could be an option at RT and back-up D-brick in case of an injury. I would rather go Ingram, Hightower or Upshaw in Rd 1 and Bobby Massie in Rd 2. Meh, Id rather have Adams at 16 (If we're strictly talking Olineman) because he simply fits this scheme better but I am glad we're looking at all options. Maybe this is an indication of a trade down? Essentially looking at prospects who could be available 4-6 spots lower.
I might prefer Bobby Massie overall to Martin, not even taking round into account. I don't see a ton of upside as a run blocker, and he honestly seems a bit soft to me. Massie is a mauler that needs technique work, but I believe he has a natural strength that will make him a player in the run game from the start as he rounds out his overall game. Really they're totally different players. I think if they both make it to Rd 2, Massie will go earlier because he'll have more time, while Martin could go late 1 because he can step in and play LT next year if absolutely necessary (see Detroit/Pitt if Gilbert can't move over).
I think Martin may go to Buffalo in the 1st or to the Cardinals. Good chance he doesn't make it to #16. I'm with WW though. I'd like to see our first three picks be OLB, WR, and OT in some order. Ingram/Upshaw, Massie, and Criner/McNutt would be a nice haul if we went OLB, OT, WR. I like Floyd, Branch, Schwartz as WR, OLB, OT if it fell that way.
HELL NO. Martin does not deserve to be in the top 10. Riley Reiff over Martin a thousand times over for Buffalo. Martin could go to a team like the Cards or Chiefs (maybe) but thats only because theyre desperate for a Tackle.
No complaints if we draft Jonathan Martin at 16. Top 3 tackle in the draft, fills our top 3 biggest needs and is an overall solid prospect
If nothing else maybe a team like Cleveland/Cinci/Detroit (all ideal trade down candidates right in front of Pitt) might feel like they have to trade up to get Martin.
I would be extremely upset if the Jets selected Martin in the first round. This guy scares me and I think the other top offensive lineman are much better.
Im not a fan of Martin for us at all really. He is too much of a finesse player, especially considering the scheme we will be running. I would rather Cordy Glenn and Mike Adams over him; at least with Glenn you get a guy that can play Tackle and Guard and in case Ducasse actually plays well, we have a replacement for for Moore.
Picking Martin at 16 might just be the only way we could fuck up this first round pick.I can't really see him as a realistic option for our pick with the likelihood of so many better options available to us.
There are teams that like Martin over Reiff, and who said Reiff will make it to #10 for sure. Buffalo is just as desperate for a tackle if not more so than the Cardinals or Chiefs. If Martin is the best tackle on their draft board at 10 he could very well be the pick.
Not trying to be rude but may I ask who or what team actually said Martin was better than Reiff? I dont see how that is possible at all, unless someone is evaluating talent with a blindfold.
well there is a quote floating around today from the one thread, that says that team sees reiff purely as a guard. If that team is Buffalo, it would make sense they prefer Martin to Reiff. edit: found it. from the draft audibles thread I should also add I'm not exactly confident in Reiff's ability to be a LT at the next level. I'm not that confident in Martin either, but all it takes is one team to prefer one to the other to make it a reality.
Martin is the Upshaw version of tackles... not much upside but can start in the NFL and be above average.
Completely disagree, I see Martins ceiling as Jason Smith while Upshaw has the ability to be the next Lamarr Woodley. Also, Martin will take time to start and be effective, IMO, while Upshaw can be anyone's starting OLB in 2012. Kind of a weird way of describing my opinion but I think the average NFL fan understands the terminology.
Unfair to compare Martins to an oft-injured recent bust...he hasn't played a down in the NFL yet. Woodley is a better, faster athlete than Upshaw. They have being undersized and versatile in common, but Upshaw is an inferior athlete -- showed in position drills.
Martin and Smith are very similar IMO, look at their play styles. I am not saying Martin will be a bust but I dont think he will be as good as projected. He's a tough fit. On Upshaw, Is Woodley a better Athlete? Slighty. Faster? Both are the same. Upshaw didnt exactly look immaculate but neither did Woodley when he worked out. Its funny, Upshaw and Woodley get more and more similar by the day. Upshaw was, at times, out shined by his MLB all through his career at Bama, similar to Harris outshining Woodley at Michigan (although I will admit Woodley was a star at Michigan). Many felt Harris was better than Woodley and many feel the same with Hightower and Upshaw. I think they'll both be great and frankly if the Jets took Upshaw no one should be disappointed.
