How so? Currently Wilkerson and Devito are starters. Marcus Dixon and Ropati Pitoitua are backups. Add to that Pouha at NT and Kenrick Ellis as his backup, and the D-line is one of the deepest, youngest and most talented groups on the team. They don't need to sign anyone.
Some day the lite will go on in your head & U will realize that the only thing that matters in FB is winning
Obviously, it was proven right. It was the right call last year, too. Sure, Ellis was great in the playoff game. You can't forget that. You also can't forget the minimal impact he made in every other game. Ellis was a great Jet, but that time has come. If he wants to come back on a minimum deal and compete for a roster spot, that would be nice, but I wouldn't even guarantee him a roster spot at this point. There was no way he was worth $4M last year. That was another good call by Tanny. The key issue for the Jets has been replacing all the veterans that were a key part of the '08-'09 teams. Letting TJ, Faneca and Ellis walk is fine, but the Jets haven't yet found an elite replacement for any of them. Greene, Slauson and Wilkerson have varying levels of talent, and I expect Wilk to be a mainstay on our frontline for years, but we need to build depth to replace guys like Pace/Thomas/Scott/Leonhard
EDIT: I can proudly say that, without planning it, this ended up being my 1,000th post. Couldn't be more satisfied.
I'm aware, Father Time. In case you didn't know, Ellis has 0 Super Bowl rings. He also did jackshit this year, his offer of vet minimum was just and appropriate. He would've had minimal impact for us this year, just like with the Pasts.
Say you're wife dumped you for a millionaire who gave her a $4M tennis bracelet AND she called you a cheap bastard on the way out. Would you take her back even if she lost all her hair in a farming accident and gained 250 pounds? Neither would Tanny.
I was upset at first... but when I saw how much money the Pats offered him I wasn't. They totally over-paid and I'm happy the Jets didn't go on a bidding war for a declining (but still useful) player. He is worth vet min and nothing more..
The Ellis era is over. Now get over it. It's time for the Jets to get younger and faster. Enough with the retreads. Bringing Ellis back last year for the vet minimum was a gamble. This year it is idiotic. He is done. He plays like he is wearing cement cleats. Old and slow means no.
I'm not comfortable relying upon a flex DT/DE in Pitoitua in the unlikely event that Pouha gets injured, tbh. I'd like to see 7 roster spots between DT/DE instead of 6.
The fact that Kendrick Ellis is not in jail but is still in a Jets uniform confirms that the Jets made the right move in getting rid of Shaun Ellis.
