Here’s part two, the Jets mock. Now I couldn’t totally decide what way I wanted to go, so Rds 2-5 have two options. Enjoy.

    16. New York Jets – Cordy Glenn, OT Georgia
    - Joke is on Cinci, Cordy is the player the Jets wanted all along. Huge frame, great feet, and the ability to play either inside or out makes him the perfect fit. If Ducasse isn’t a waste, then hello next year’s starting RG, if he is then he’ll be a stud tackle. Love this kid.

    A.

    2- Vinny Curry, LB Marshall
    - Physical, relentless passrusher that needs some work to round out his game. The Jets would have gone LB in Rd 1 if Glenn wasn’t available, so they feel happy to get a player of Curry’s caliber in Rd 2. Some might say he’s a higher value player, but I’m not sure that he’s that far up, and I wouldn’t He’s not as developed as others, will require more work in coverage too, but his attitude should make him a player.

    3- Greg Childs, WR Arkansas
    - Had him as a 5th rounder about a month ago, but there’s no denying that this kid is going to be a stud in the NFL. The injury issues seem to be behind him, which means that he could be back to the 1st round caliber player that he was before it. Great size, speed, and body control.

5- Christian Thompson, S SC State
    - Auburn transfer was dominant at times at SC State. Has good size/speed, makes plays, and is aggressive in run support. Seems like the type of kid that would have been really good if not for a mistake he made as a 18/19 year old. A fifth rounder is pretty outstanding value for a guy that has tools like his.

    B.

    2. Trumaine Johnson, S Montana
    - The more I watch him, the more I see a natural safety that was just athletic enough to play a more important position while at Montana. He has a wide receiver’s frame and moves great in space. His hips aren’t great, so he’d struggle with the change of direction of NFL WRs, but has no problem running with receivers and breaking on the ball when it’s in the air.

    3. Cam Johnson, LB Virginia
    - I feel like he’s a much better player then he’s given credit for, but it will take some work to reach his potential. He’s strong and can bull rush, but isn’t an explosive athlete and that might limit his ceiling. The fact that he’s willing to mix it up with linemen to create pressure is a good sign for his immediate playing ability.

    5. Marvin McNutt, WR Iowa
    - A quality, tough receiver that knows what he is and excels at it. He’ll never be a monster playmaker, but he can be an effective #2 that can find seams, get open, and move the chains. His timed speed doesn’t really reflect his game unless he gets way into the open field, but it is a nice thing to know he can go a ways if the opportunity is there.

    6- Davin Meggett, RB Maryland
    - Son of former (short time) Jet Dave Meggett, Davin is a major sleeper at the position. He has a great body type for the position, good speed, and runs with a toughness his dad never had. I can see him being an Ahmad Bradshaw type player.

    6c- Adrian Robinson, DE Temple
    - At one time was a pretty highly thought of 34 OLB prospect, Robinson hasn’t be able to live up to the hype in recent years. That said he’s experienced in the 34 and plays with a pretty good mentality for the position. A patient, intelligent defender, he could be a kid that can develop as the other LB opposite a stud (which hopefully Curry would be).

6c- Shawn Powell, P Florida State
    - BUT A PUNTER?? Yeah, I know, but they have a lot of back end picks, and it would honestly seem silly not to get a jump on the UDFA market by taking someone who can compete with Conley.

    And finally:

7- Quentin Saulsberry, IL Mississippi State
    - The reason I like Saulsberry is because he has the versatility to play anywhere on the interior. I really hope I don’t see a game without Mangold starting for the next decade or so, but it’s likely going to happen. Having a backup that can actually not be awful at that spot would be nice.

    7c- Caleb McCurdy, LB Montana
    - Big tough ILB prospect, why not give the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year a shot to make the squad? They’ve never had a quality backup ILB to develop, and the fact that he’s getting looks on the offensive side of the ball both proves his athleticism and intelligence.

    7c- Kashif Moore, WR Uconn
    - Not sure why people don’t talk more about this kid. He’s a great athlete and was fairly productive in school, and I think that he could be a decent slot guy/returner with some work

    Option B is awesome

I agree about Trumaine Johnson being a safety at the next level, but he may need some work on the mental side of that

Not sure if McNutt and Robinson will be available when you slotted them, but god I hope so

A couple people said that about McNutt, and all I can really say is that in a draft of WRs like this what team would make picking him a priority? There are about 13 or 14 guys that I would say are top 3 round locks, then maybe 6 or 7 guys left that are on the same level or above McNutt still. He doesn't do anything so well that he is a must draft and I'm not sure he'll ever be a big playmaker, so he'd be the kind of guy that drops. At that point, how many more teams are going to decide WR is in their top 4 or 5 needs?

And agreed on Tru Johnson, the more I think about it the more I'm desperate to see that kid brought in. It's a perfect fit, and I think that teams may rate him much higher than we do on the outside because they've been looking at him as a Safety all along.

Oh shit GH, I never even saw this posted. Great job.

Option B is were I'd go. Tru and Cam > Curry and Childs. The only concern I'd have with picking option B is we dont end up with a true #2 wideout. McNutt is great and could be very productive in the future but coming out I dont see him being our #2 (maybe thats just me).

The late round picks are excellent as well. I'm surprised you started off your sentence with Powell as "BUT A PUNTER??" because I think that is a huge need of ours and with so many late rounds picks we should acquire on of these guys. Powell is my second favorite Punter in this draft and is an instant upgrade over Conley.

Question about Meggett, do you feel he can be an effective 3rd down back or is he strictly another RB in the stable?

This is a great idea though, I hope to see another one prior to the draft.

The punter thing was because I didn't want to see a debate over the logic of drafting punters/kickers come up. People have always loved to start Mike Nugent debates in these threads.

As for Meggett, he can be a very good third down guy, but I see his upside as an all three down guy if he changes up his mentality a bit. He's a good receiver and pass blocker, but I think that with the way he's built/his quickness he can be a tough all around back despite not being the fastest guy in the world. He just needs to understand when that upfield cut is the best move.

I agree that option 2 is better, mostly because of what I think about Tru Johnson. McNutt should be ready to contribute because he's always been the guy he'd be here. Obviously he's not going to catch 80 balls, but all the Jets would ask him to do is be physical, run good routes, and make some strong catches. Maybe not a true #2, but I'd be happy if he, Schilens, and Kerley all split catch numbers evenly next year.

Kashif Moore is an absolute freak athlete, (He's also on the track team at Uconn) combine numbers were amazing. His career at Uconn has been relatively mediocre because there hasn't been a decent quarterback since 2004 with Dan Orlovsky. But he shows flashes of brilliance at times. He could be a tremendous pick in the 7th round.
