Mike Mayock just went off on the guy and he is now his 2nd highest rated pass rusher in the draft behind Ingram. What is the consensus on this guy? Did some quick research and sounds like he has a motor, described as relentless, and has the production and size (6-3 260). Also, had nice measurables. He is still slated to go late 1st/early 2nd.
He's this year's Brooks Reed. Second best pass rusher??? I think that's a little bit of a stretch. Versatile player that can play inside or outside, has a relentless motor, as you stated, and extremely intelligent. I'd love him on the Jet's roster. Right now, I have McClellin an early/mid round 2 prospect, he could move into late Rd 1 and Belichick drafts him.
Second best pass rusher is a stretch, McClellan is a good player, he is kind of lean but he is very athletic and speedy with a good motor
He's a stud. Outside of Nick Perry, he has the best upside as a 34 OLB passrusher in the entire draft. I want him on the Jets if they don't get Perry. I'm a little surprised to see his value rise so late, but he's an animal. If they took him at 16 I wouldn't be devastated because I'd believe that they knew something we didn't about the teams that would pick him after. Speed, strength, attitude, effort, agility, ability in space... he literally has it all.
It's crazy how fast he had risen. Even after the season ended I don't think you could find anyone in Boise who really believed he had a shot to be drafted in the second, let alone the first.
Trade back and give me 3 Boise State players and Ill be very happy... He does remind me of Brooks Reed, just minus the hair. I think he’ll have a very good career as a pro.
Love it, this guy could straight ball if given some time to fully develop. Notice how awesome he played standing up and staying in position. Would love a trade back and taking him. Would also love to trade up in the second for him.
He's a reach at 16, but I undestand your thinking. If the Jets love McClellin, thay have a difficult decision which gives them 3 options. 1) Draft SM at #16, probably not the best choice, at this time. 2) Trade back into the mid 20's and get more picks and the player they covet. 3) Trade up into late rd 1 to get ahead of the Ravens, Pats & Steelers, this would be a very expensive move. If we stay at 16 a highly rated player is going to fall to us, it always happens. The last 2 years I never though Mo Wilk & Wilson would be available late in Rd 1. DeCastro, while a highly rated player may fall, some of these overrated D- lineman may push him to 16. The Jets seem to target certain players and almost all of their recent picks.....Wilk, Kerley, Powell all had visits with the Jets. From what I read, I believe McClellin has a visit scheduled. Keeping an eye the players visiting the Jets should give us their target players.
I keep dreaming of a scenario where we trade our 1st and 2nd round pick to Cleveland for their 2nd first rounder and their 2nd rounder.
If we traded up and got this guy and a 2nd rounder I would be ecstatic. Him and Aaron Maybin are both relentless and would compliment each other very well imo. McClellin can also play inside some. I am actually a little surprised he isnt projected as a more late middle 1st rounder.
Ehh, According to the old draft value trade chart wed be getting the short side of that deal . And the old trade chart undervalues trading down with the new rookie cap. Id rather trade our first to anyone willing to part with a 1st 2nd, and possible midrounder depending on how far were trading down. That way if someone were interested in falls a little in the 2nd, we could still easily trade up for him and have made out from the initial trade. Its sure better than making the trade with the Browns, then if your guy isnt there kinda ended up screwing yourself.
I really like McClellin. I guess it slipped on me that his workouts have been as good as they are. Scary thing about him is that he probably needs an NFL conditioning program. He could eventually become even better. Aside from that, you can see the great feet and hips, and you can see the bend and strength. He doesn't really waste motion or take bad steps, and he wraps up. Guys like this are why I think we need to trade down. Particularly if the cap is going to be stagnant for the next few years. We can get value and depth. It seems like where we are now, we're bound to overdraft. -X-
Just listened to Draft Countdowns most recent podcast and when Scott Wright asked Greg Cosell to name a guy he's really excited about he said Shea McClellin. Compared him to Clay Matthews and Brooks Reed. Seems like we might be in no man's land in terms of drafting this guy though, too high or too low.
My god. It's like people are incapable of comparing a guy across the racial barrier. McClellin is a much better athlete in the open field than Reed, but not nearly as explosive/powerful a passrusher as Matthews.
Well then GH, you toss out a comparison across racial boundaries. Reed is the guy I have been comparing him to this year. but if you have a better comparison, please do say so.
