You mean a QB who can throw better then Sanchez don't you? Since the team lacks WRs Keller is ESSENTIALLY a WR playing TE. You can have Keller out there as another WR and pick up a blocking TE.
Keller is not only a terrible player but he does not fit on this team because I know the solution to everything. 6th among TE's in receiving yards? Psssht he's a surefire bust. Can't block, can't catch, can't jump, can't do anything. We need big strong WHITE tight ends. Big strong white guys who can block. I'd rather have a guy who gets 1 reception and 13 yards in a season as long as they can block my shitty quarterback. I want Gronkowski's dick in my ass also.
last time I looked there are no decent tackles in FA (aside from marcus mcneill who is a major injury risk) and so i dont know what people expect the team to do.
It's not a matter of wanting him gone. He's a good player and definitely has a role, but I'm not sure the things he does well outweighs what he struggles at to warrant the contract he's going to get.
Nowadays in the league there are usually 2 types of tightends on a team. Keller is the play maker that can get down field hes not much of a blocker. then theres the other big body tightend for blocking and short yardage. we need a second tightend to ofset keller and can be good in a double tight end set. You take away keller theres not much offensive production.
Gronk is a better receiver than a blocker. he poses way more of a threat to a team when hes down field (this goes without saying). but as for a blocker NE was sending there TE's out into pass routes way more so than blocking. I agree keller cant block but not to have him on the team would be foolish.
Keller is not a ground and pound TE. So let's lock him up to a long term expensive deal. You know, maybe the Jets are really not serious about GnP.
Please, don't attempt to distract the gentleman with THE REAL WORLD. By all means, just criticize and gripe about every situation while having absolutely no clue what's going on the entire time. Really for someone with 15,000 posts that's quite impressive to know so little about a subject. Don is quickly reaching towards lofty Bradw4ysux SOJF heights, albeit in a new and exciting method of nonsense.
Hopefully find one in the draft. If they can't then the priority has to be a blocking TE and not Keller.
keller has fit fine in a ground and pound scheme before. keller is one of those guys that i feel should be better than he is. i don't really know if it's his fault, schotty's fault or sanchez's fault. probably a combination of all 3. but he's getting better every year so it's pretty obvious he hasn't reached his ceiling yet. but even then, i just don't think he's ever going to be an elite tight end. one of those 6'5 6'6 mismatch guys.. or a guy who can run like vernon davis/aaron hernandez. well, i guess it's pretty obvious he'll never be 6'6 or lightning fast. he was still ranked 6 last year going by yards, but just taking a quick look at the list.. i'd be ok with any of the top 16-18 tight ends. not saying they're better than or equal to keller, i just don't think the dropoff is that great from keller to a guy like gresham. i think keller should stay with the team. him and sanchez are buddies, and no matter how many times sanchez drills a ball off keller's head (no homo), he keeps going back to him (no homo). it's not like we can afford to lose receivers in the first place. i just don't think he deserves a contract fit for a top tight end. but if the price is right, why not?
Wow. You are essentially saying its ok if DK gets almost $5mil with half the contract as guaranteed but Tanny is a "fucking moron" if he pays $6mil with one third of the contract guaranteed. DK is essentially a WR playing TE. He lines up at both spots. He has improved his blocking skills but when u lineup next to Hunter, you don't realize that. He's basically Sanchez' BFF on the field. We are not replacing him cuz $6mil a yr will not be a monstrous contract. He's young, consistent, and ever improving so far. As for one dimensional, he's your potential 1k yard receiver who will occasionally block. We need help in the receiving game and without him last year, we would probably be picking in the top 10. We need a 2nd TE as well, just like any other team. We've needed a blocking TE for a long time, but you see what happens when u pickup shit in the draft (Hartsock) or UDFA (Mulligan). Yeah, its very easy finding those reliable blocking TEs. Good luck with that. Even with Keller in there, the Jets rushing attack ranked #1 few years ago. Not so good last year, but I doubt if we are to blame Keller. Keller was the most reliable Jet last year with Santonio fucking up his own shit and Burress running on crutches. 4 years, $16mil (plus $8 in all kinds of incentives), with $8mil guaranteed would be where I stop
Wait, so Keller has two pretty damn good seasons in back to back AFC Championship Game appearance seasons on a ground and pound football team... and we don't want to give him $5 mil a year. Jets fans just really constantly need something to bitch about. He has been Mark's crutch his whole career, and a pretty big playmaker at that although clumsy at times... WHY would you just let him walk? Pretty odd, considering most people here bitch about keeping the surrounding cast around Mark consistent...
If you took the time to read those who question Keller, you might get your answer rather than bitching about what you call bitching. Bitching indeed. He is a lousy blocker and he's inconsistent.
So you wouldn't spend $5 mil on the TE who had the 6th most yardage amongst all TE's despite having a "terrible" QB, after being a big part of at team that went to back to back AFCCG? A guy that has great chemistry with our struggling QB? A guy that is perfect for two tight end sets and a safe air game?
