WTF!!!???!?!?! You don't get top tier pass rushers in the 5th round. At least not usually (James Harrison being an exception).
Take the best player. In order for me, Ingram, Barron, Floyd, DeCastro, Upshaw. Barron was the best player on Alabama's defense. The Jet's need a safety and he becomes a starter day one. Barron would be a good pick.
1) We shouldn't be surprised based on previous drafts 2) We should take BPA in any case 3) More importantly, why the fuck would Tony Pauline have any clue on who we are drafting.
Jared Allen was a 4th round pick. Elvis Dumervil was a 4th round pick. Trent Cole was a 5th round pick. James Harrison was a UDFA. The Jets need to take the best player available on the 16 or make a trade down to get the guy they are fixed on who is not BPA at 16. All things being equal I'd like that guy to be an OLB or ILB who can pressure the QB. If not then an offensive lineman certainly seems to be the way to go.
Could be an intentional leak. Could be the truth. Either way I think they'll pick the best player available in their opinion (taking into account need) at #16.
I'd love Floyd. Dude's a stud but he probably wont fall to us. I don't know if this "no passrusher" thing is smoke and mirrors or what, but if it's the truth then fuck me.
I'd be interested to see the Jets try and insert DeCastro in Slauson's spot and have Slauson compete against Hunter at RT.
If Barron could play FS, then I would agree with his selection. Since he is a SS and we just signed Landry, then its overkill at the position with needs unaddressed. No problem selecting a SS in the later rounds since Landry is on a 1 yr contract. As a result I consider (My opinion) your first four to be nightmare picks. I want no part of Ingram and his short arms. He was a productive college player, but I don't see it in the Pros. Discussed Barron. Floyd is a boom or bust and the last thing the Jets need right now is another problem child diva WR esp when they're going ground and pound. DeCastro will probably be an All Pro Guard, but I think the Jets have other higher priority needs.
The thread title doesn't really match up with what was quoted. The quote says the Jets don't like Upshaw (rather than an OLB) at #16. Would Upshaw really be the answer for a pass rusher for us anyway? I don't think so.
The implication there is that, in addition to not liking Upshaw, there are indications that the Jets would wait until the later rounds to take an OLB.
Yada yada yada.... That being said I HATE drafting WR's in the first round. Give me a OL or DL. Recievers rarely contribute right out of the box and with the kind of offense I see us RUNNING I think it would be better to wait until the later rounds or just pick up one after teams start dumping.
