Felt like changing things up a bit. Quite a few unconventional picks that many will most likely disagree on. Whether a pick(s) intrigues, angers, frightens, or just plain convinces you that I have no clue what I'm talking about, leave a comment and i'll get back to you. Thanks as always. NOTE: While many picks might seem outrageous, wrong on value, or just down right stupid, just remember; if ANYONE here correctly picks more than half the selections in the first round correctly, they have done an unbelievably good job. 1 Indianapolis Colts- Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford 2 Washington Redskins (from St. Louis Rams)- Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor 3 Minnesota Vikings- Matt Kalil, OT, USC 4 Cleveland Browns- Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU 5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama 6 St. Louis Rams (from Redskins)- Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St. 7 Jacksonville Jaguars- Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina 8 Miami Dolphins- Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M 9 Carolina Panthers- Quinton Coples, DE, UNC 10 Buffalo Bills- Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa 11 Kansas City Chiefs- Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis 12 Seattle Seahawks- Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College 13 Arizona Cardinals- Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia 14 Dallas Cowboys- Fletcher Cox, DL, Mississippi St. 15 Philadelphia Eagles- Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame 16 New York Jets- D'onta Hightower, LB, Alabama 17 Cincinnati Bengals (from Oakland Raiders)- David DeCastro, OG, Stanford 18 San Diego Chargers- Nick Perry, DE/OLB, USC 19 Chicago Bears- Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama 20 Tennessee Titans- Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina 21 Cincinnati Bengals- Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor 22 Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta Falcons)- Brock Osweiler, QB, Arizona State 23 Detroit Lions- Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama 24 Pittsburgh Steelers- Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State 25 Denver Broncos- Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State 26 Houston Texans- Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech 27 New England Patriots (from New Orleans Saints)- Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama 28 Green Bay Packers- Whitney Mercilus, OLB, Illinois 29 Baltimore Ravens- Peter Konz, C/OG, Wisconsin 30 San Francisco 49ers- Amini Silatolu, OG, Midwestern State 31 New England Patriots- Mark Barron, S, Alabama 32 New York Giants- Jonathon Martin, OT, Stanford Other players strongly considered for Round 1 consideration (Based on need by teams): Kevin Zeitler, Devon Still, Michael Brockers, Kendall Reyes, Andre Branch, Coby Fleener, Reuben Randle, Josh Robinson, Alshon Jeffery, Kirk Cousins, Lamar Miller.
No way is Brockers fallling out of the first and if he does we sure as shit better be trading up with the Colts for him Id also be kinda upset if we passed on Decastro for a MLB Nothing against Hightower I like him, but I think Decastro brings way more value to the team
I was one of Brockers biggest supporters and expected him to blow up the combine. Well he didn't, and coupled with a year where he didn't exactly fill up the stat sheet I see him falling a bit. I get that he is oozing with potential but I see guys like Poe, Cox, and probably even worthy and still surpassing him come the draft. I look at Hightower differently. Hes not just a MLB. He rushed the passer(and well might I add) on passing downs and is great against the run. He is a very underrated off the edge pass rusher and I believe he will be drafted before upshaw come draft day. Thanks for the input!
I kinda agree with all of this. Brockers is a first round talent based on potential alone. and DDC is going to be one of the best in the league for a long time. Hightower is good, but not as good as DDC.
I'm a huge Hightower fan for the Jets, but I wouldn't pass on DeCastro. Glenn could (slight chance) be drafted ahead of Decastro beacuse he can play both G and T. Don't be surprised if the Jets draft Cordy Glenn. The Jet's have shown interest, visit scheduled, and Rex hasn't given Hunter a ringing endorsement. Tanny said Hunter is the the starter, not Rex. Gilmore is rising up the board and could push Kirkpatrick for the 2nd CB position. I like that your mock, it's different than most. There are no absolutes when it comes to the NFL draft.
Thank goodness someone else understands that Brockers may not be the world's greatest player that everyone is desperate to have him be. I don't honestly see how he's a better player than Jerel Worthy. Someone needs to really explain it to me because Worthy is a beast and has been consistently. The more I see the Hightower pick the more I realize just how likely it is. In fact if I had to put money on it at the moment he'd be the guy the Jets go for. I also agree that Osweiler is going to be picked in the first round. I know he needs development, but so does Tannehill, and the skills that Osweiler possesses greatly overmatch Tannehill's.
Jerry Jones WILL take Brockers if he's there and he can't get his hands on Ingram/Coples. Cox just is not as good of a 3-4 fit as Brockers is. I think Eagles with the news of Peters will reach on Mike Adams and take him at 15, causing Floyd to fall to the Jets in this. Not sure if Brock Osweiler makes it to 1st round. His value is all over the place. He made it to round 5 in our mock draft I mean. Brock could be the 4th Qb taken and can also be behind Weeden and Cousins in being taken. His value is up in the air.
As I see it Cox is going before Brockers and Poe will aswell (different kind of lineman). If the Eagles and Bengals pass on Brockers I could see him taking a fall since he did not have a great combine and was not super productive this last year. He's raw and theirs nothing wrong with that but this is a show me league, a league where if a guy after 2 years hasnt produced is going to start being labeled a bust. Teams drafting from pick 20+ more times than not want a guy who can step right in and produce. Can Brockers do that? He might be able to, but most see him needing 2 years to develop. Would a team like Denver, who just signed Peyton Manning and want to win NOW take a player that can develop or go with a guy like Worthy who can step right in and be a player. I agree that we should be interested in Glenn because he can play tackle. DeCastro however I dont know. Are we going to dump a team leader in Moore who has probably 2 good years left in him? Are we going to put Slauson on the bench even though hes a serviceable cheap starter? I just dont see DeCastro as an option at Tackle or for us ATM. Agreed on Brockers (see above!) If Tannehill might potentially get drafted in the top 10, Osweiler will be a first round pick, he just had a great pro day and he is a physical speciman. Thanks for all the input!
Hurricane, the thing is, how many times have you seen a team reach on a guy like Brockers? It seems to happen every year, and consensus usually backs them up. I think when I do a mock, I always consider the incompetence of NFL teams, because it showcases itself every year. -X-
JPP got taken on the case of potential by NYG and it turned out amazingly well and was a draft steal. Same could be said for Brockers though as Sir said he didn't put up flashy numbers at the combine. A DLineman who can play DT/NT with his body will have people salivating no matter what. He'd have to injure himself at this point or do something really dumb to kick him out of round 1 IMO.
Brockers is probably the most overrated player in this entire draft. In every aspect, he is overrated in some form. People scream potential, but he’s not an athletic freak and didnt blow up the combine. His length is the only thing he may have over other players. He said at the combine that he got double teamed every play, but that wasnt the case on tape. I dont even see this passrushing ability everyone says he has. I would be absolutely pissed if the Jets reached on him in the 1st... Supposedly they are bringing him in for a meeting/workout.
You're right. Every year there's a DT that goes Rd 1 that everyone knows will fail, but he gets picked anyway on potential. Hey, if someone takes him before 16 more power to them, gets the Jets a better player. He's not at the level of physical freak that JPP is (for their respective positions). Brockers really isn't THAT impressive athletically, he's high end, but he's not a once in a generation kind of guy. And how in the blue hell can he play NT? He couldn't be a worse fit. Agreed. He was the third best player on that defensive line alone, and he's going to complain about getting consistently doubled? When he did he was eaten alive because he's a one gap player without great strength.
Don't forget, both Slauson and Moore are on the last year of their contracts. Tanny won't be unprepareed for that.
if decastro, ingram, or upshaw are there get them. if not, best OL. take care of business and no trying to get attention
I am of the belief that Ingram will be gone by the time we pick and I am not a fan of Upshaw at all. I just feel he has no real position. When it comes to the OL id much rather take a tackle (Glenn or Adams) before I take DeCastro. Just my opinion however.
