McD will never be comparable to Brian Leetch. Completely different styles of play. Leetch was one of the greatest offensive dmen in history. McD plays more of a defensive style. Either way McD is a stud. Having him, Staal (once he's back to normal), and Girardi on the team will make the defense ridiculous for years to come.

If MDZ can consistently play a top end offensive game, this team will be a top team for years to come.

I'm more inclined to agree with you. I've said this before, that one of the only guys capable of consistantly performing at a Leetch-like level in this league is Mike Green, and who knows if he'll ever be consistantly healthy.

Uh yeah, because of Torts system, he has a developing offensive game and is 22, Brian leetch before he became a great defenseman was a terrible defensive player...

We will agree to disagree, I didn't say he would be an exact replica, but of similar value...

Now I disagree with you, Green is nowhere near Brian leetch and is defnsively soft...

Ok, but realize you're projecting a second year player that has yet to crack 30 points in his first full season to the best American offensive defenseman of all time. That's what is going to raise people's eyebrows. McD is great, whether the offense comes or not. One of the great steals in any Ranger trade that I can remember. But just remember how many times we heard "Staal's offensive game will come in time, just wait" while watching games in his first couple years. It's not gonna happen. And that's totally fine as well. He's a stellar defensive defenseman. Quite honestly, I'd rather have a d-man that is lock down who's offensive stats are just gravy than a great offensive minded defenseman that is a liability on the back end.

Brian Leetch players don't grow on trees. McD was seen as more of an offensive defenseman when he was drafted. As he went through college that changed. By the time he graduated he turned into more of a defensive player. I'm not saying he can't turn into a 40 point Dman, but Brian Leetch once scored 102 points in a season. Not many defensemen have ever done that. He scored at around a point per game for his first 10 seasons. McD will never be anywhere close to Leetch in the offensive respect no matter whose system he's playing under.

If McD ends up being a shutdown defenseman who puts up 40 or so points a season, then he'll be a fantastic anchor for years to come. That said, he will never be Brian Leetch. People could see what Brian Leetch would become the first time he played an NHL game. I think so many of us were so spoiled having Leetch back there all those years, that we don't realize how rare/great of a player he was. It's too often that I hear "flashes of Brian Leetch" about the next upcoming defenseman.

Wow, if I wasn't in Miami on Sunday I'd take you up on these in a heartbeat. If you ever have tickets I'm interested.

ha, I made teh Leetch comparison a couple weeks ago. I dindt fully explain my position but yes, Leetch is a stretch.

However, I di dsay, call me in 2 or 3 years and we can talk about McD's offense. It is sooooo obviously there, the offensive talent I mean. Aand I GUARANTEE it will improve to very noticeable levels. Like, top 5 or 10 offensive Dman in the league levels. Its an absolute guarantee m friends.

If he was playin in San Jose or Clagary or some shit, he'd have many more points this year.

Even if he was just on a team that could score, he'd have a lot more assists by default.

Every once in a while Jonny he'll carry the puck coast to coast and stick handle brilliantly, you can see the potential, unfortunately for him he plays in a system that you account for defense 1st...I loved Brian Leetch but he was a defensive liability his 1st 5 years...

A shutdown d-man who will eventually score 50+ pts and anchor the PP and PK...a complete d-man , but of course not better offensively than Leetch, but better defensively already .,..

Great night. Rangers take #1 in the league, Knicks destroy Orlando and now I'm watching Jets Nation, doesn't get much better.

Not winning the divison takes the Rangers from #1 to #4 and would probably cost them home ice for rounds 2 through the finals. So it's a big deal that the Rangers hold off the Pens and they can't afford to lose any of these games
