I want either of these guys in the first. Would absolutely love to trade down a few spots and take Hightower.
Really surprising Rex decided to skip Alabama's pro day today. There were probably 4 people to scout.
I think hightower should be the number one rated inside backer. His stock should be much higher then it is.
Worried since its McShay. Anything McShay says usually the opposite happens....take him worth a grain of salt.
Now that I have given up any and all hope of Richardson falling into Jets lap, Hightower is number 1 on my wishlist. I am truly baffled as to how he isn't even a consideration for us in most mocks I have seen. I feel he would be an absolute great fit in a Rex Ryan D and can see him loving the versatality that Hightower would bring. Besides his versatility though I think the kid has elite potential. The fact that Ryan was so open about his admiration for Upshaw with no mention of Hightower makes me think he may just be the target.If we can trade down a few spots and still get him, beautiful but I would have no problem if he is the pick at 16 and can see him being considered a steal at that pick a few years down the road.
With the recent news that were gonna "probably" keep Scott (and by probably keep Scott I mean nobody on the planet is going to trade for him), would we really have Scott/Hightower/Harris all on the roster? Even for one year ?
Why not? It's clear Hightower just isn't a ILB, he can play outside too. I expect the Jets to draft an OLB & ILB. Hightower is the best of both worlds, he's very versatile.
He definetly has flexibility. You'd get alot of boos from jet fans who don't know what kind of player he is. He's a really good player.
When comparing all the footage I thought he stood out more than all of them ...his size for a MLB is fantastic and he can play OLB .....
That tells us that the Jets have a very high probability of drafting at least one Alabama player in the first couple of rounds. Rex doesn't need to see anything more out of Richardson, Upshaw, Hightower and Barron. Those guys have more high level competition film than anybody else available at this point because Bama has been so good recently. Rex can look elsewhere where he might need to differentiate somebody who has not had the stage those guys have had. It also is a really nice misdirection on his part. It's like USC 3 or 4 years ago. I'd rather get Hightower on the 20 with a trade down than Upshaw on the 16 but I think they are both going to be very good players. Great players in the right scheme and surrounded by the right talent.
The more I read on Hightower, the more I like. I still need convincing an ILB can be our first rounder, but I wouldn't hate it like I used to. I like the player. If he can play inside on run downs and outside on pass downs, he'd be a heck of a weapon for us. Im just hesitaht to invest so many assets in ILB, a position Rex has been phasing out more and more to counter pass heavy teams (new england). But if we can pick up extra assets and end up with Hightower in round 1, Id be okay with it. Don't want at 16.
Hightower has played OLB in the past and could be moved over. He's not strictly a ILB in the 34. He is the type that could play inside in our base and outside in our 4 man fronts as well, as opposed to Bart who comes off the feild in our 4 man front. I would not hate the pcik at all and be very excited to see him as a Jet.
That's my thinking, if Rex needed to see more of these guy's he'd go down and check it out. The fact that he's skipping tells me he's seen all he needs to see.
Do we know if he's actually skipping the Bama pro day? Isn't it tomorrow? I'm guessing Rex is at the south carolina pro day today. I don't think the Jets can really go wrong with taking Upshaw at 16 or trading down for Hightower.
