It's really not that simple. What if 5 DL/LB go off the board before 16, but Floyd or DeCastro are still there? You would take the 6th best DL/LB prospect over the second best WR, or the best G?

Theres nothing wrong with going OL/DL in the first 2 rounds

If they are BPA when we pick

Going into a draft at any # with a certain position completely solidified in stone no matter who is available is just idiotic

Get the best offensive lineman on the board. Then, with the next pick, get the best offensive lineman on the board. Then again.

Unless DeCastro falls, I dont see us going offensive line in the 1st. IMO, Tanny is sticking with who we have at RT and isnt going to spend a high draft pick on RT.

I agree with your statement, but DeCastro is a limeman.

The Jets need to address the offense this draft. A stud WR or a RT that can step right in and start because no matter what Rex says I don't thin Hunter will be on the team come Septemeber. If Vlad or the future RT even blocks a little bit that would be better than anything Hunter gave us last year. The Jets also need a rangy free safety they have the SS need a centerfielder now.

How about just taking the BPA on both picks? Odds are pretty good that will get us either a DL, LB or OL in round one on the 16 and probably another one or a WR on the 47.

The Jets need more talent. They just aren't as good or deep as the Steelers and Ravens and they can't compete with the Pats until Brady goes away.

Wilkerson, Ellis, and Dixon are all very solid players on our defensive line. Devito will start the season healthy, and the advanced metrics had him as elite against the run in 2010. He should rebound. Pouha, Pitoitua, etc...all very decent. I think we can wait on a defensive lineman.

The Jets defense suffered because Harris was hurt and the rest of the linebackers got old fast. Knowing there was no pass rush, teams found a way to scheme around us.

So I think the Jets best chance is to spend their first four picks on two linebackers, an offensive lineman, and a wide receiver, depending on best available per round.

  11. Going into the draft with your heart set on a single or group of players/positions is foolish and will usually leave you extremely disappointed.

I see the Jets as having a pretty solid roster except for a few key spots where upgrades/athleticism are sorely needed: LB,WR,S, & O-line depth. Luckily for the Jets LB & WR are 2 of the more deep positions in this draft. Go BPA & ask questions later.

Sadly Hunter is given the job until Vlad impales or we burn Hunter at the stake.

Speaking as someone that started toying with the idea of picking someone like Brockers to replace DeVito and being subsequently convinced by intelligent argument on here that it isn't a good idea, I have to say that I wholeheartedly agree with this analysis now.

My first thoughts on the draft were that we should be doing 2 LB 1 WR and 1 OL in some order. Then I started considering 1st DL 2nd LB/WR 3rd LB/WR 4th OL when I was considering Brockers. After souring to that idea more or less I'm firmly back in the 2 LB 1 WR 1 OL camp.

I always thought that taking 1st DL is going to water down the rest of your draft in terms of quality players in positions of greatest need you can address. What I have since realized is that there isn't anything close to adequate compensation for that sacrifice by way of upgrade in production by forcing DeVito out of the starting lineup. We shouldn't have to get less quality players where we really need them as a result.

Yeah, you can't go into a draft looking only for one position. Looking at a lot of mock drafts, most likely the Jets will end up with a OLB or an OL,WR, or RB if the draft breaks out really strangely. All areas of need, so right now it looks good. It will mostly come down to if the Jets select the right OLB.

That must mean he is going to be an absolute beast. I mean 40 numbers are everything, screw the fact that he struggled to put up numbers in the CUSA conference, right?

Who gives two shits about a nose tackles 40 time? How does that translate to the field?

    Oh it matters!

When due to inexperince and inability to locate the ball, he may have a shot at running down a really slow back or a QB!
