There seems to be this illusion out there that the Jets DEFENSE has carried them when successful. It is quite the contrary when you actually look at the facts... Attached is a link with all of Sanchez' game winning drives/fourth quarter comebacks as a player for the Jets. In 2010 and 2011 most wins were thanks to him, NOT OUR DEFENSE (10 game winning drives/fourth quarter comebacks in only 2 years!!!). Look at the scores of the games... most 25+. Similar to Tebow he can often be inconsistent throughout a game, but finds a way to WIN... and has done it better than anyone in the league the past couple of years with the exception of a select few games.

It's generally hard for the defense to win when you're always trailing invariably and the only way to actually win is to mount a fourth quarter comeback. But yeah.

I knew this was going to be trouble when the thread name was "the facts". There is no such thing as facts here..Sanchez may have a winning drive but only because the defense held the other team to x number of points..you can see where this will end up going. The whole topic is way too subjective.

The REAL Facts....the NY Jets Football TEAM got to two, back to back AFCC Games. Not M. Sanchez...not Rex Ryan's Defense...not Westy's special teams. That TEAM did it.

When o' When will you all figure it out?

I agree. No one wants to mention that in the Jet's playoff wins, the Jet's won because of Sanchez. He outplayed Manning, Brady, Rivers and Palmer and those are the facts.

Pretty much, being 1, 3, and 5th in the league the last 3 years has alot to do with giving our offense the opportunity to even stay in games.

The Jets defense gave up 14, 14, 16 and 21 points..I would argue that the first three were definitely the defense.

You want a fact. Sanchez couldn't get a first down against our defense.

The point is while the Defense has played well....it is not a Trent Dilfer situation where it was the defense dominating games and the qb just handing the ball off. Sanchez has been a big part of what we have done thus far over the past few years and for the most part, when he's needed to has been a very clutch player in the 4th quarter.

In the two seasons that we made the AFC Championship game, our offense was good, our defense was outstanding.

that wasn't the point of your original post at all.

no one is comparing sanchez to dilfer. but to say that the offense has carried the defense (which your original post says) is ridiculous.

the defense has been dominant in the playoffs. and for the most part, it has been the strength of the team in the regular season over the past 3 years as well.

i think the defense has held our opponents to under 20 points in 4 playoff games while the offense has scored over 20 twice. that led to a 4-2 record. that is the defense working.

Can we add in that half of the oline pretty much sucked last year and Sanchez lost Braylon? It did make a difference.

The Broncos o-line was a joke for the 20 games previous to Tebow starting. I watched all the games and the media (both locally and nationally) were calling out the Broncos o-line for there weak play and effort.

Suddenly Tebow takes over and the rushing game goes from last to first in less than 10 games.

The media was praising the o-line as one of the best young lines in the league and it had finally jelled. It was humorous.

The national media spent so much time telling us all how Tebow couldn't play or win in the NFL and then when he did, that same media said it was because every other member of the team stepped up their play and were winning in spite of Tebow(it seems to be all about ego and which side you were on from the beginning with Tebow).

It was obvious to anyone watching the situation closely that when Tebow took over for the 1-4 Broncos (which had the worst record in the NFL for the previous 30 games to Tebow starting) he SPARKED that entire team.

The question wasn't was it all Tebow, the question was why did every member suddenly start playing his best (offense, defense, special teams) at the exact moment Tebow took over.

Tebow wasn't the ONLY reason the Broncos were suddenly winning seven of eight games, but he was certainly the catalyst that made the worst team in the NFL for the previous two seasons, into a playoff winning team.

You all watch, the o-line will be much better with Tebow in the line-up and he will be in the line-up more and more as the season progresses.

I don't know if the OL will improve when Tebow takes over, but certainly Sanchez is a big part of the problem with the OL. He can't read defenses, either pre or post snap. That's why he holds the ball too long and gets sacked and fumbles. That's why he throws behind receivers (doesn't recognize that they're coming open). That's why he too often throws "stupid" INTs; he's not processing what he sees.

As is typical of QBs who can't read defenses very well, Sanchez does well against poor pass defenses (like the Bills) as well as late in games where his team is behind. Why? Because defenders tend to play soft prevent defenses when they're trying to protect leads, so it's easier for Sanchez to find open WRs. Also, Sanchez's continual short throws to check down receivers is how he adapts to not understanding what's going on in front of him.

He's Trent Edwards 2.0 with a better team and a bigger salary.

Sorry, but you are wrong about the whloe team getting us to 2 afcc games.

Schottenheimer did not have one thing to do with it.

I'm as big a Schotty basher as there is on this site, but he seemed to change up his play-calling in the Playoffs and Sanchez and the team responded. Let's at least give him the credit when he did right.
