    Subtitle: The anti-JohnnyThaJet mock

    1. Colts - Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
    2. Skins - RGIII, QB, Baylor
    3. Vikings – Matt Kalil, OT, USC
    4. Browns – Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
    5. Bucks - Mo Claiborne- CB, LSU
    6. Rams - Justin Blackmon- WR, Oklahoma
    7. Jags - Quinton Coples, DE, UNC
    8. Phins - Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M (Michael Floyd also works here for my
    purposes)
    9. Panthers – Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi St.
    10. Bills – Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
    11. Chiefs - Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis (Anybody but Brockers works here)
    12. Seahawks – Melvin Ingram, DE, S. Carolina
    13. Cardinals - David DeCastro, OG, Stanford
    14. Cowboys – Michael Brockers, DT, LSU
    15. Eagles – Luke Kuechly, ILB, BC
    16. Jets - ….

To me the key to the draft is going to happen between picks 8-11. If Miami reaches for Tannehill or even grabs Floyd, and Buffalo takes someone like Reiff, then all we need is for either the Panthers to take Fletcher Cox (or Kirkpatrick/Poe/Still/anyone we're not interested in) and all of a sudden things get extremely interesting for us.

If the Chiefs take whichever remains of Poe/Cox that would be icing on the cake. I could see it happening or at least something approaching it.

If a situation like this starts to play out, something very interesting starts to happen. You get to pick 12 and the remaining guys on the list are some combination of Ingram/DeCastro/Brockers/Kuechly not to mention a great second tier of players including /Floyd/Upshaw with Martin/Glenn/Adams as “safe” OL options not far behind.

Now I know how this is going to sound to everybody but the idea of adding a guy like Brockers has me absolutely salivating at the moment. I think that if this situation starts to happen we need to seriously consider trading UP to 12 or 13 (ESPECIALLY 14 or 15 if we can’t make a deal and he somehow doesn’t get picked each time). If we could add Michael Brockers for the price of our 5th round pick this year and maybe a 3rd next year, (or next year’s 2nd for their 3rd and 4th or something.) I think it looks incredibly tempting.

Sure, if we sit around we’ll get an interesting guy to fall like us like Floyd or Upshaw or whoever your pick is out of that group. But to get an absolute future elite monster by only moving up a couple picks just seems like it has a whole different level of value attached to it. With Brockers and a 2nd/3rd round OLB you sure as hell won’t have to worry about a passrush now or ever again. The guy draws double teams for breakfast, and even then they have a hard time containing his raw force. He's already an unreal monster at snuffing out the run. Once he gets technique down and matures he’s going to be a nightmare against the run and pass alike.

Another huge perk to something like this is that it makes Mike Devito and/or Ropati immediately expendable. They’re both FA’s next year and we certainly won’t need both of them so that actually lets us put one of them on the trade block to get something for them before they ship off. We could use a guy like DeVito for collateral towards a competent FS or WR or RT or even just to get that 5th rounder back as soon as we ship it off for Brockers. We’d also knock 2.5M off the cap in the process in so doing.

Then we could use our 2nd/3rd rounder on BPA for depth at either OL, S, or WR and address any remaining pressing need for #2 WR or starting FS/RT afterwards through FA/trade.

The only thing we would really be losing out on in this scenario is the chance to get a high impact OL (with 16) that might be able to cover up any RT deficiency this year with the chance to swing either him or Ducasse into guard next year when needed (if Ducasse is able to do either by then). To me this is a luxury that can be addressed for real with next year’s 1st round pick (when we actually know where we stand at RT/G) so I don’t mind making such a sacrifice. We'd be able to find an adequate stop gap to tide over our one immediate OL need and tide us over until next year.

If Brockers ends up going to the Cowboys at 14 and we just sit there and watch it happen I will literally be vomiting non-stop no matter what happens afterwards.

Hmmm Wilkerson, Pouha, Brockers. Sounds effective.

I'm a quality over quantity guy everytime but unless it's for Richardson or Blackman, I'm not trading up. In your scenario the Jets are in great shape. Barron, Mercilus and Floyd are still there. No need to trade up.

I am not generally against trading up but given we already lost our 4th round pick I am thinking that this would dent our taste for moving additional picks, if we go from round two straight to round 5 or 6 then its quite a slim haul for us this year in the draft. If I had a choice I would rather move down to the low- to mid-20’s and take a player there and maybe get another 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Again, I think we'll have little to no trouble fencing Mike DeVito off for some kind of a pick or a player from somebody. As long as we don't have to give up the 3rd round pick to get him we'll hardly miss a 5th at all with our comp. picks. As long as someone is interested in taking a pick next year as the bulk of their payment (or some other asset that we'd be willing to part with) I don't think we would get handcuffed by a move such as this too much at all. We're just moving 3-4 spots, it won't take a king's ransom.

    1) Let's see how many comp picks we have first

    2) Why are so man of you in love with Brockers?

Are you saying that Brockers doesn't make it past Jacksonville? I don't get your sarcasm.

    2) I think that Brockers basically solves our pass rush problems by himself. DeVito is essentially invisible in terms of passrushing. He doesn't eat blocks even. Brockers would constantly draw a 2nd man freeing up Wilkerson for one on one's not to mention Maybin and whoever we add. On top of which he's going to still get penetration sometimes even when doubled even before he becomes a complete well-rounded player. After a couple of years it's anybody's guess what kind of game-changer he could develop into.

He will also instantly re-solidify us as one of the stoutest run defenses out there.

I guess my question to you is, why AREN'T you in love with him?

No matter what we HAVE TO improve our pass rush.

I know we need improvement on the offense, especially the line, but WE NEED TO GET TO THE QB!

no, that the JETS chance for a trade up involves shipping a "backup QB" to his hometown. I can dream right?

Guess my mind isn't sick enough to even consider the possibility of such an unfair fleecing. Still, this is a nice dream world that you present. I will take it for a spin.

    #7...Vroom Vroom.

    Nope...I'm still taking Brockers.

Browns have made it known they would be interested in trading down..

Any chance the Jets rip them off again? Might not be a bad idea. Jets could assure themselves Richardson/Blackmon, or one of the Stud Lineman (off or def)

    Dear sirs,

Please fork over the 4th pick in the draft at once on layaway. We gave you Mangini!

    Sincerely,

    Tanny

Then substitute Winston Churchill for Tebow's sake! It's bloody England here, surely you can think of someone else.

I think Brockers is one of the most over-rated players in the first round. Hands down. I would be absolutely angry to trade up to get him, out of all the people in this draft.

Why, Brockers? Honestly, makes no sense to me.
