Alright theres been a TON of discussion about our first round pick, and most of the likely picks for our first are OLBs. So assuming we draft an outside linebacker with our first pick, who interest you most in the second ? In mosts of the mocks here people seem to be high on Branch and Curry, so who are some other ideal 2nd rounders ? Not gonna lie im not a huge fan of this second round in general and would be pretty excited to trade down in it, but assuming we stick to it Brandon Thompson, Clemson, DE/NT Rex and Tanny both went to Clmeons pro day, so im sure they got a good look at this guy. Versatility on the line, and previously projected to be a first round pick, I think this guy could definitely be a steal. What other guys in the second are you a fan of ?
I know this wont be widely accepted, but I want Doug Martin in the 2nd badly. IMO, he is the clear #2 back in this draft and could bring this team’s running attack from good to elite. A backfield of Greene, Martin and McKnight with Tebow would be scary good. He’s the guy I want. Other players I would be happy with are- Andre Branch Vinny Curry Mohammed Sanu Harrison Smith Kelechi Osemele Rueben Randel Lamar Miller Trumaine Johnson
So assuming we draft an OLB in the first round, could you see Rex/Tanny drafting Curry or Branch assuming one of the 2 available when were on the clock ? I wouldn't have anything against it, assuming theyre BPA. After all were gonna need 2 new starting OLB for next season Although ill tell ya now Branch is gonna be gone WAY before we pick (in the 2nd) And id be afraid of Dallas Miami and NE getting Curry before we pick
I hear Sanu might not be there? Its OLB first WR second. Who ever is the best big WR without a history of injuries. Does Sanu have injury concerns?
I have thought about this also, it wouldnt hurt to tell you the truth. If we get Ingram or another OLB in the first and the BPA is Branch or Curry you take him. Pace isnt getting any younger or better and Thomas is on one leg.
On no planet is Doug Martin ahead of Lamar Miller. As for the 2 OLB debate, no, absolutely not. In the later rounds, sure, but we need too much help soon to take who would be our 5th OLB in the 2nd round.
I would take the best WR on the board. I know this draft is deep at that position, but the Jets really need a threat opposite Holmes. I would love to see Jeffery there but I don't think he would make it that far.
I dont agree. And Im pretty sure many dont either. I know the Emmitt Smith doesnt agree... He even said that Doug Martin could potentially be better than Trent Richardson. I think Doug Martin is a more complete runner all around than Miller. The only thing I see Miller having on Martin is burst and speed, and Martin’s is very good. For what this team wants to do, I think Martin is a much better fit.
Yeah, Emmitt Smith proved how tremendous an analyst he was on ESPN. Can't question him. Might some miracles happen and land Martin in a much better situation than Trent? Maybe, but as prospects there is not a team in the NFL that would take Martin over a freak like Richardson. For everything Martin does, Trent is literally 2 or 3 steps better. Martin is not anywhere near Miller when it comes to speed, agility, or burst. I assume that you say Martin is more complete because he's a tough runner? That's great and all, but that doesn't mean anything. Miller obviously has way more potential as a receiver than Martin does simply because of size and how quick he gets up to speed. Miller gets knocks because people assume a lack of physicality, but it's not really true. He just doesn't need to be as tough a runner because he doesn't take direct shots. He's too fast. It's the same reason why Chris Johnson has success. He's not a masher, he just doesn't get hit hard because defenders can't overcommit to do it. Martin isn't great laterally, and has really shown off his vision because of the offense that Boise ran. Running out of that spread in which a good portion of the runs are draws, delays, and counters is a lot different than lining up here's your hole make a cut if you need to. He was a lot less effective in regular sets because he didn't have time to build up speed. That and he might be a tough, physical guy, but that's mostly in the get hit fall forward category. I love that effort, but other runners would break some of those tackles because they'd get through the hole quicker. People say all the time that he's so Ray Rice like, and in a way he is, but he just doesn't have the same level of skills that Rice did. People didn't recognize the immeasurables that Rice had, like suddenness and vision. He's a great receiver at his size not just because he can hide behind the line, but mostly because he catches the ball and he's getting upfield in an instant. He's no burner, but he knows how to get his body going in the right direction without wasted movements. It's that type of suddenness that people lose when they look at Miller too. He's not just fast, he makes most of his best plays when just changing trajectory of his path slightly. As he gets more mature physically he's going to develop into a monster a la Clinton Portis, because the willingness to lower his shoulder is certainly there. Muscle tone and huge freak legs is one thing, but defenders are looking at 215 or so coming at them with either player, and I'd really doubt that the one that's coming at them with that 4.3 speed is the less dangerous option.
One of Tanny's friends who he takes alot of principles from is Ron Wolfe. One of Wolfe's quirks was that when his team had a position that was troublesome over a large number of years, you draft more than one talented guy and let them compete. He did this with the draft at both CB & WR. Not only do you nip a long time problem in the butt, you create strong competition and depth. Taking 2 OLB's and/or versatile linebackers in the first 2 rounds is an intriguing possibility that would end a long time issue on this roster.
I would have no problem with Tanny listening to Ron Wolfe! So two OLBs and then WR followed by a safety?
I agree with you about Miller. I was blown away with how fast he hits top gear and how fluid he is. I think Lamar Miller is criminally undervalued in this draft, and I think he has a dimension that the Jets currently lack. He's not some scat back, he has the size and potential to be a perennial Pro Bowler. Would be very excited to move up for him if he's in any sort of range. -X-
Who would be potential MLB/Tackle/Safety/WR that would be available and fit the jets system in the 2nd and 3rd round? I have zero interest in taking a RB in 2nd or 3rd round. Tannenbaum has thrown so many resources at the easiest position to fill. 4th round pick for Kevan Barlow Leon Washington was a 4th round pick Trading from 37 to 63 to get Thomas Jones Traded a 3rd, 4th and 7th for SG 4th round pick on Mcknight 5th round pick on the terminator (why did the jets use a 5th round pick on a fullback?) 4th round pick for Powell The quantity of resources thrown at this one position at the expense of drafting pass rushers or a safety is incredible. When you consider how much the NFL has changed, the fact that Tannenbaum just keeps throwing assets at the easiest position to fill in free agency is mind boggling. Let SG, Mcknight and Powell play. It's tough to guess what the Jets will do in the first round but my guess is that they focus on Upshaw, Decastro, Hightower and Glenn. These 4 guys seem like plug and play from day one at position of need that improves the Jets offensive line or front 7 on defense.
I want Bruce Irvin. My dad lives in West Virginia and says Irvin plays hard, gets to the quarterback with instinct.
considering his legal troubles and the other limits to his game, I think we can get Irvin later on. Still, I have no problem with using Irvin as a nickel rusher. He could be an Antwan Barnes type player who can get to the quarterback when a lane opens up. You can't have too many of those guys on your bench. -X-
