Ok, I see 6 holes on the club, 3 on D & 3 on O. 3 starters needed and 3 critical heavy play time reserves.

Starters needed - FS, RT, WR

Heavy play time reserves, if not starters - ROLB, LILB, RB

So where do we go from here? Which ones are likely to be targeted high in the draft, which ones will be FA signings, and which ones will we wait for training camp cuts/try and fill in house?

The way I see it is as such:

FS - Jimmy Leaonard brought back for a year, not too bad although he and Landry are both injury prone, but Jimmy knows our D and is a heady player.

ROLB - another year of duct tape with Bryan Thomas / may be our 1st pick in the draft (Ingram/Upshaw)

LILB - Maybe I'm standing on an island here, but I think Scott comes back for one more year. With so many holes on the team, it makes no sense to get rid of a guy when we would have to eat his whole $4M salary to do so.

WR: Could me Michael Floyd, could be the 2nd or 3rd rd pick or Shillenz could step up to the plate.

RB: I don't see it happening in rd 1 unless Richardson takes a long unexpected slide and no team moves ahead of us to grab him. RB is such a fungible position, I'm sure we can pick one up along the way, but with McKnight and Powell on the roster, I'm not sure we need to invest a high draft pick on the position. I just want someone with home run ability and game changing speed to be on the roster. Greene just doesn't break big plays, but he can help grind away and help control the clock.

RT: This position bothers me the most. Hunter is a joke, an absolute laughing stock, everyone knows it. Ducasse was a waste of a pick - like Dewayne Robertson, Vernon Gholston, Justin Miller, etc the earlier we all admit the obvious the better. He's a bust, plain and simple. The problem is the FO seems to be doubling down on their mistakes here by giving Hunter $2.5M guaranteed and not admitting Ducasse has been a mental midget and a flat out bust.

Thoughts on how we address these 6 areas?

Agree on most. I personally would put OLB in as a big need instead of a reserve need. We've gone too long without a pass rusher.

FS-Jimmy needs to be brought back. I don't see anyone in FA that would be a better fit then him. Wouldn't be opposed to Barron in the 1st round either.

OLB/pass rusher-Draft. No question, I think this is the direction we are headed

WR-Really don't know what Tanny has up his sleeve here. We desperately need a #2 if we consider Holmes a #1. Chaz is certainly not that guy. Wouldn't be opposed to Michael Floyd here. Not sure any FA that are left that are #2 worthy. Maybe a possible trade, but then again, I can't see Tanny dishing out any more picks

RT-The next big move Tanny needs to make IMO. A RT in the draft is no good. He'll be a rook and have his normal rookie lumps, no matter how good he can be. This team needs a proven RT, or at least a stop gap that is a big upgrade over Hunter/Ducasse.

RB-Not a huge need, only cause I'm unsure what the FO plan is for McKnight. If they think he can be a complimentary back to Greene then I'm all for it. I would also love T-Rich if he dropped to 16.

ILB-Not as concerned. Thought our defense played fine when Scott was on the sidelines last year.

LB: Round one to many OLB Studs to pass up I personally want a Pass Rusher I.E Whitney Mercilus
RB: I think we go into the season as is let Joe McKnight Step up if he can...see what we can get out of Powell and Teebow will get carries Via WC or Wrinkles in the offense
WR: Rd2 or 3 I see us grabbing some WR with some size and speed to Stretch the field who knows maybe we grab a Colston like player in the 7th not likely but anything is possible
ROT: You have to pray to god a Training camp will help Ducasse out... Hunter was supposedly injured last year but ya this position is dismal at best Some where in the draft we will pick up 2 bodies for the OL Depending on Slauson's recovery
FS: Leonard and had OJ signed yet?

  4. Impact players are needed at OLB and WR. Steady competition and further depth is needed at safety, O-line, LB corps and possibly RB.

I wish we would have gone after Eric Winston, which would have solidified the RT position.

There are a few kids in rd 2 that may be a day 1 starter - namely the kid from Iowa State.

With RB and WR I want SPEED - this O lack big play ability. I would be fine if McKnight gets the ball more, I want to see the kid tough the ball 5-10 times a game.

I'm not a fan of taking a kid that was a DE in a 4-3 in college (Coples, Mercilus) and drafting him. At least Ingram and Upshaw played OLB with their hand off the sand in college.

Ducasse needs to put on his big boy pants this offseason. The resigning of Hunter makes me think we are hoping Vlad can fill that spot and we draft some Olinemen later for depth.

For RT I'd like to bring in Marcus McNeil on a 1yr contract based on playing time. He's a major health risk but if he gets healthy we would have stolen one of the best tackles in the league especially since he would probably be a better RT than he was a left and he was a pro bowler on the left side.

What are you guys worried about on offense? We have the wildcat. No need for speedy wrs because we gonna run all game. I knew Sparano was a bad hire. We need to improve team speed and we have done nothing and the draft will not fulfill all our needs. But we have Tebow. :-(

I say we get benson from cincy, but now if we do wildcat with tebow we need more of a speedster and not power runner like green so i really dont know anymore with this team

That's a cogent analysis; and I agree with you, the Right Tackle situation is the most distressing. It wont matter who our Quarterback is, with Mario Williams now in our division, if we don't upgrade at Right Tackle, it's going to be a long struggle on offense this season.

DeCastro from Standford is purely a G right? I don't think there's a T worth taking at 16, so I'd be in favor of signing someone if possible. I don't want a RT in rd 2....well, bc look what happened last time we took a RT in rd 2....

Joe McKnight? Him, Kerley and that other guy can make a great combo together.

We have to bring back Leonhard at safety, then draft one. We should use the cap space on RT + Braylon. Draft OLB early. Safety 2nd, stock up on DEs ILBs and Tackles, get a WR and RB late. We have a lot of late picks this year.

He is but seems to come with a serious health warning: "he's missed 12 games in the past two seasons. In addition to two knee surgeries, McNeill had a serious neck injury that knocked him out for the year in 2011."

Still even on IR he is still probably a better option than Hunter

Actually, I've read where Decastro is a better guard, but has played tackle before. Some teams were potentially projecting him as a RT instead of RG.

The O line needs the most help. There has to be a better solution than saying someone played injured after the season is over. We need some players that are going to be pissed off and embarrassed after getting beat or after watching game film. The "Gee Coach, I did the best I could" baffled look is not going to cut it.

I'm not sure if the linebackers are too old, worn out or just apathetic. The Jets need to figure out what it is and address it. Regardless it's time to start grooming someone.

WR corps is a crapshoot. The accuracy of the quarterbacks has to improve or a lot of it isn't going to matter.

Jimmy is in a difficult position. Will he get the Leon Washington treatment during the draft? Should he call it a day? He's becoming a bit like Bob Sanders, you'd love to have him on the team if he can stay healthy.

Looks like the mock drafts have ingram and upshaw going before us. Is there any other linebackers that we really want ? I know we need an OLB badly but it would be a mistake to stray too far from the draft best player available.
