Let me preface by saying, I don't know if Sanchez is the Franchise QB we thought, I do know we just guaranteed him $$$ for this year and next. I don't think anyone hates Tebow (no one knows him and he seems like a nice guy). Good for him. But on my football team, if Sanchez goes in the shitter and Tebow plays better, the chants come, the articles fly off the presses etc, the last thing i want to watch is the Jets switch to a Wildcat offense. It won't bring you any closer to the super bowl and will give you a heart attack when teams figure it out. I don't care about winning ugly or excitement, if your offense is a gimmick, it will not lead you a championship. It hasn't yet. Can Tebow get better throwing? Of course, but I don't want to wait, watch and find out. You don't need the option to run ground and pound (Put in Kerley). Get a mauling guard/tackle, get better blocking TE's, you have Connor, get another RB. And cryin' out loud, Tebow is a QB, not a RB, not a TE, i don't care what kind of athlete he is! There are plenty of Athletes in the NFL, it doesn't mean that they can transition flawlessly to other positions. (didn't immobile Mark run for 6 td's? Not bad for a guy who apparently has cement feet). Jets best option is to have a good "throwing" QB (Sanchez or not) surrounded with a good G-N-P game. IF Sanchez sucks and Tebow replaces him, we're stuck with 27M in dead money (who would trade for him and pay that money). And we get to watch a Tebow offense, which is what I personally would hate to watch. No way that type of offense takes you through the playoffs. If the Jets brought in a QB with decent throwing skills, i wouldn't complain, but Tebow doesn't have it (now), and if (when) he starts qb, that offense is not beating teams when we're playing catchup. Sure, it doesn't mean we'll lose every game, but we're certainly not going toe-to-toe w/ NE for division. Here's hoping we find gold in the draft for defense (bend don't break won't work rex - ex Denver game). I don't hate Tebow. I hate his style of offense, hence i think the trade is awful. And if TT only see's 5 snaps a game, then i really think the trade was shite. I don't believe in gods, myths or fairy tales, but i'll pray to a rock if it makes Sanchez have a good year.
What exactly is so different about Tebow than any other slapdick backup QB that's going to so shake Sanchez's foundation to the core and completely unhinge him? Sanchez needs to focus on one thing and one thing only - succeeding at what the offense is asking him to do. Nothing else matters.
Of course it would be worse off. The Jets would go from having a QB about whom there is a pretty fierce debate at the moment as to his ability to play QB well to instead having a QB about whom there is no debate about his ability to play QB well. Going from "he might be a good QB" to "he's a bad QB" is a huge step down and it's one that I make the Jets out as about 50/50 to take. I'm going to go back to the very basic issue here and reinforce it. Not only is Tim Tebow not an acceptable passer in terms of performance he's an unacceptable passer in terms of mechanics. Given the wins that he QB'd last year you'd have expected about 20 teams in the NFL to have jumped at the chance to start Tim Tebow at QB. Instead the bidding war was among a few teams who valued his services as a backup/promotional item. This is because he's not a good QB. That's just what it is. No amount of Tebow-mania can change the fact that the only offense he can run well is one that has not been run in the NFL since the 1940's.
If the team thinks it is a good football decision to add a player, what fans and media think is irrelevant. Tebow was traded for because he is a better #2 than Stanton and he can add another dimension to the offense that a typical backup QB can't provide. Mark Sanchez is the starting QB and should be concerned with continuing to improve. If Tebow takes the starting job from Sanchez, it will be Sanchez's fault. As far is us being worse off, it would have to have been pretty bad for Tebow to take over.
Worse off from what? From where we thought the Jets were before they got Tebow? Sure the Jets would be worse off at that point. Why? Because we would know either that Sanchez sucked so bad as to give it to someone who clearly is not a competent NFL Qb, or alternatively that the CS caved to Tebowmania. Yea, no doubt that would be worse than Monday of this week.
I didn't mean to imply that Rex would somehow be pressured by the media. What I'm saying is that if they started Tebow it would mean an instant boost in $$$. That puts pressure on the FO/Woody, not Rex.
Im not calling you out, I was just wondering why you are so busy posting on the Jets forums? Are you from the NY\NJ area? Maybe you should just convert, we're much better anyway
Please expand on this idea. Tannenbaum has always been aggressive in pursuing opportunities that he felt were going to make the Jets better in some way. You could argue that last offseason was his worst offseason as the GM of the Jets and coincidentally it also happened to be his most passive. The Jets don't stand idly by - the plan is in the scheme and the players they need to run that scheme. Tebow is one such individual who can excel at participating in the offense they plan to run.
Then there should be no worry about him beating out Sanchez. I don't understand why people lose sight of the fact that Sanchez would have to be horrible for Tebow to take over.
All players regardless of position and who is starting in front of them should push and work to be the starter. You compete to win not to come in second
Said the guy that gave 50 million dollars to Ryan Fitpatrick. Hey at least with rookie salaries capped, youll be able to fit them both on the roster. Oh, and the 4. And the 6????? You're kidding right? Well recoup the six in comp picks. And still have 11 draft picks. The only team in the division that is bad enough to get 11 picks on the roster is the Jill's.
hahah I cant wait until Wayne Hunter gets Tebow lit up and all his followers see how bad it sucks to be a Jets fan....
I can agree with that. "Clearly not competent" is debatable, but it doesn't change the premise. It would be a bad thing if Tebow became the starter this season.
Yeah thats exactly what I said. Were gonna get two first rounders for Tebow, yup Im sure I could find some good advice for you in Holmes twitter archives
I completely agree OP.Tebowmania made me sick last year.A tear will flow down my left cheek if I have to witness Sanchez getting benched for Tebow. The boredom of watching Tebow play out the first three quarters made it hard for me to get excited when he would finally get it together in the 4th last year. I cant Imagine having to go through the pain of watching a New York Jets game that features Tebow overthrowing Holmes, Keller, and/or Kerley all throughout the first 50 minutes of the game.
Can Tim Tebow Improve His Passing Game? The plan is to use him as almost a direct snap running back, but has everyone given up on the possibility that Tebow can develop into a successful passer? Has a precedent been set for this kind of development at this level? I'm just curious to people's thoughts on this issue, since it seems the general consensus is that Tebow will be a direct snap running back and nothing more. Footage from his Florida days doesn't tell me much...I see some deep passes, but I also see a lot of awkward side-angle passes while on the run. Here are some of his passing highlights from last season... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpEF39kNHVk
I wonder if Sanchez has a slump like the end of last year, would Tebow be inserted in as the starter.
Yes, don't press the issue when you've landed the most popular player in the NFL for a song, and your team is good enough to consider him a depth player. They want to run the wildcat with him, but should they not want to make money off the deal?
