1.16) David DeCastro, OG, Stanford. Not going to be the popular pick because of the common belief that you don't take a guard in the 1st round, let alone the first half. But the state of the guard position is almost as bad as any on the Jets. Slausson is coming off a major injury and Moore has taken a big step back as a run blocker. If he's here, I think you jump at the opportunity of getting a perennial Pro Bowler. 2.16) Vinny Curry, DE/OLB, Marshall. I've had him mocked here for awhile and at first it looked like a reach, then it looked like he wouldn't be available, and now it looks about right. He's got all the talent in the world to become a very effective pass rusher and with Thomas and Pace coming back would be able to be worked in slowly in a pretty athletic sub package with Maybin. 3.16) Wide Receiver, WR, College I'd love to get Floyd in the first or Sanu in the 2nd but I think there are more pressing needs and there will still be a player here that can be an immediate contributor. Juron Criner, Brian Quick, Dwight Jones, etc. would all be solid 3rd round picks. 5.16) Brandon Hardin, S, Oregon St/Phillip Thomas, S, Syracuse Hardin has become a mid-round darling of the board and for good reason. But I also like Thomas, who had some off field issues at 'Cuse but has good ball skills and would be a good special teamer.
Your guess is as good as mine when it gets that late. Plus you put something in like taking a punter and everyone freaks out even though it's just a 7th rounder. Usually not worth mocking that late.
