I believe we have enough money to sign all our draft picks. A star running back will be coming out in the second round of this years draft. If everyone's concern is RB and feel that position is more of a hole than our other glaring holes, we can address via draft.

Yeah but the problem is they use lousy picks on lousy backs..they are hoping to step in shit but that will never happen with Tannenbaum making the calls.

Except now that we have an offensive coordinator who is going to use the Jets talent properly we're finally going to get to see how good Shonn Greene actually is.

So far the only potential whiff is Powell - a rookie that didn't even get a training camp.

The Jets aren't nearly as bad at RB as it might seem.

You really think McKnight has been all that impressive??? I wouldn't perhaps call his pick a whiff, but it was hardly the stuff of genius, either, at least so far. It is certainly a POTENTIAL whiff, though.

And just to clarify, wouldn't you blame the coach in charge of the running game last year more than the OC for how well or poorly Greene was used, which was Callahan?

Ftr, I may attribute some of the lack of production in the running game to problems with the OL, but the lack of a deep threat from Mark Sanchez rates more highly as another variable than Greene's use by the CS.

Green Ellis is nothing special. No better than Greene and both are slower than Tebow.

Impressive - not at all. I think he can be a good role player though. That's all the Jets need out of him. I have no illusions about him being part of a successful 1-2 punch. I expect him to be our Kevin Faulk, nothing more.

I think Callahan does deserve blame too - if you want to technical you could spread the blame around to several people including Rex and Tannenbaum too... however focusing on the source of the problem I believe it was Schottenheimer. To me the Giants game was the perfect analogy of what Schottenheimer was about. He had no interest in doing things the way Rex wanted him to and to the detriment of the team. It was his offense and he was going to go down swinging with it.

I could write a book about the the things that Schottenheimer did poorly but suffice to say I don't feel he put very many players in a position to optimize their talents. When the Jets did decide to run Schottenheimer felt it was necessary to have Matt Mulligan on the field which basically told the other team "80% chance of a run!".

I also put it on Tannenbaum for letting go of Braylon Edwards who was an excellent blocking receiver and stretched the field thus allowing the run game to excel. The statistical drop off of the run game last year was not solely on the offensive line.

Yes, Callahan deserves mention, and i am glad you agree. It's not for nothing he's gone despite all the fan hatred for Schotty - the FO and Ryan still also needed Cally to go.

On McKnight - ftr I am not of the opinion he sucks and has no upside. Not at all. I just think he could well still prove to be a flop of a draft pick. It's too ambiguous so far to tell.

I do think your criticism of use of Mulligan is unfair, though. The Jet CS had no real choice there, imo. Putting Keller in on a running play meant they would get almost no help from Keller in blocking. That's why Keller is so problematic, particularly in a ground and pound offense. Sure, if Mulligan was in, that telegraphed that it was a running play, but that really goes on Keller, not the CS.

I'm completely for moving Keller. I think considering the fact that Keller is a receiving TE - he doesn't do it that great. Sure - he's productive and can even be a star in a passing offense... that's not the Jets though. Like you I don't think he fits with this offense. The Jets should move on.

Also - I'm not holding Mulligan's problems against Mulligan so much as against the way Schottenheimer utilized him.

I dont believe that Tanny has much input into the draft in terms of the players chosen beyond the information given to him by the scouts and personnel guys - there are lots of things Tanny haas got wrong lately (the safety position and OL depth in particular) but I dont see how you can blame him directly for the draft picks.

He's no superstar that's for sure but he could be good in the "ground and pound" type of offense the Jets claim they want. He usually will get positive yardage on a play and he's very reliable. He has never fumbled in his career, from high school to the pros... That's sort of freakish.

I know the Patriots are looking for someone with a little more sizzle but he is a definite contributor to the offense and they'll be glad to have him back (for the right price of course)
