That sums things up pretty nicely. He's just what you want out of a second string back -- a strong pass blocker who can pick up short yardage and will never fumble the ball. He's almost certainly better than McKnight or Powell, so I'd be happy if we brought him in on a cheap deal.
He's already the the #1 back on a team. Why would he sign on to be a 2nd back on another, unless the money is better up front?
Because one team lives by the pass and the other lives by the run. There's more money in it for him. Again, incentives.
I'd be all for this. I figured Lawfirm would only want to play somewhere where he's getting majority carries. If he's willing to come here for not too much, I'd be down. But I expect him to price himself out.
Runningback is one of the last positions of need on this team. We have two guys who we need to see perform (Powell, McKnight) in a bigger role. I feel signing or drafting a runningback would be a waste of money. We have bigger needs to fill with that money.
The only problem is that we don't know what we have with Powell yet and Mcknight isn't a feature back. If Greene gets hurt there is no backup plan on a run heavy team.
Plus I'm assuming we bring back LT. McKnight is more valuable in the special team role. I expect McKnight to take LTs position next season (2013). If we wanna be a true ground and pound team we need to incorporate a 3 back system with Greene, LT, and Powell.
rb is a hole. greene - this guy is not a #1 back. i don't even mean a workhorse. i mean, he's not a guy you should have on the main side of a rbbc. he is not above average in any aspect. seriously, tell me one thing that greene does especially well. also, he's always dinged up. and he can't even find a helmet that fits him. even his biggest supporters say "he's a great second half back." which is pretty much saying he's not suited to handle the workload for a full season. he's not a bruiser. he's not a burner. he's a guy that's going to pick up whatever the offensive line is giving him. mcknight - we all hope he's going to be a great 3rd down back bc that's what his skillset limits him to. he's a very quick guy who can catch. except he hasn't done shit as a rb in 2 years. he had more yards receiving last year than rushing. powell - seriously, no one knows what this guy is. we have 1 average rb and 2 question marks behind him. this is the group that our offense is supposed to rely on.
Cant agree with you more. On a team that defines themselves by the running game, our backfield is pathetic. RB wouldnt be considered a hole on many other teams, but on this team, it is.
The second you put this guy in a jets uniform ; he will fumble and that's not knock against the Jets it's what I call "Typical Jets shit". He is as some have said not a bruiser but a gap type runner and we would be better picking up a young player in the draft. Here is the important part .....Play him and give him carries.
When did he say that? My point is that before we go out and spend money on other rbs why not see what our young underused backs can do.
I agree with this post. The Jets need to add another RB. Those who say we don't know what the team has in McKnight and Powell are partly right. To some extent the CS should have found a way to better assess the abilities of both those guys. But in fairness to the CS the Jets were in a stretch run right down to the last game, and the pre-season was abbreviated. What we do know, however, is that neither, but especially McKnight, have done much with the chances they were given. The main problem is that Greene is not dependable as an every down back. He's too limited, too, meaning he's not much catching passes, running outside, or even in short yardage must convert situations. But if anything the first part bothers me more. I hate watching him get up so slowly, and he sometimes looks like he's not got much energy. He definitely needs help. Now whether BJGE is the answer is another matter. The Jets unfortunately will have a limited price range to work with in finding help for Greene. The money is more important than how good any one candidate fits with Greene.
The Jets absolutely need another RB, but most people (including me) are upset because the FO has used 4 picks on that position in the last 3 years.
