Jenny Vrentas @JennyVrentas Broncos need ILB with DJ Williams suspended, right? Package Bart Scott into that trade offer ... #thinkingoutloud
I love how people dismiss Tebow as a qb. The guy was a first round pick. He has skill and can beat Sanchez out with a competition. His weakness, accuracy, is really no worse than Sanchez. I actually love this move. Best case scenario, he beats out Sanchez and we have a qb who is personable and likable. Worst case scenario, he runs 5-10 wildcat plays per game and the Jets get a qb next year.
If Tebow becomes a Jet, he would have a shot at top Jersey sales yet again. Who would get more press, Manning in Denver or Tebow in New York? We all know the answer...
Tebow WOULD come in as a role player but it's impossible to convince the media and some fans that he's just a role player. Personally, I think the negative attention that the Jets would inevitably receive and cannot deal with derives from his celebrity status. Add in his cap number ($3.142 million including $1.1 million in base salary) and I'd much rather have: Stewart BJGE a Right Tackle another Safety an OLB Depth at virtually every other position over Tebow. At this point, Tebow would be a luxury for the Jets, and I don't think they can afford the luxury (especially if it would cost anything more than a 6th OR 7th round pick).
Are you sure about that cap number? That's his Bronco cap number with signing bonus added in. I believe the Broncos are on the hook for that part of the hit.
I could easily see some in the media saying Tebow is placed as a role player because the Jets FO is anti-Tebow. It wouldn't make sense but some people toss out all logic when it comes to Tebow. Maybe Santorum could call it a national crisis of faith.
It would make picking out the bandwagoners easier. No self respecting jets fan should own a tebow jersey
Tebow has never had a losing record as a starting QB at any level. The guy can play, forget the media (you guys in New York worried about media? really?... you ARE the media). He could push Sanchez into becoming who he really is good or bad. 7-24 WORST TEAM IN THE NFL IN 31 GAMES BEFORE TEBOW (DENVER BRONCOS ) 2-8 2009 (last 10 games of season) 4-12 2010 1-4 2011 (first 5 games of season ) 7-4 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Tebow in as QB 2011 NO OTHER PLAYER CHANGE (changed locker room culture, team wins collectively, team effort 100% not just him) Playoff win +1 also here is his production for his 16 starts (and he played in 7 other games for a few plays) (includes 2 post season starts) Total Yards: 3835 Passing : 2885 Rushing: 950 Total TDs : 32 Interceptions: 9 Fumbles lost: 7 Completion percentage: 47.3% QB rating: 78.1 (includes post season) say he sucks all he wants but 3835 yards and 32 TDs is worth a 6th round pick even if it is to change him to running back.
His cap number is less than $2 million and if a trade included Bart Scott that would clear more than $2 million in cap space for us. I believe it would save us almost $6 million in cap space (could be wrong).
Gholston was a first round pick. A top ten first round pick at that. Furthermore, Tebow was only a first round pick because Josh McDaniels is an idiot and reached for him in the draft. So we should pay Sanchez to sit on the bench on top of the (whatever amount of money it is) that Tebow is due? The caveat to this is the Jets having the highest paid backup QB in the league. You're really, really underselling the worst-case scenario. Worst-case scenario is that Tebow and Sanchez become by far the most talked about athletes in the media. The Jets go on a losing streak (maybe even just one loss) and Sanchez begins to feel the palpable pressure suffocating him. His performance declines. Tebow is inserted into the starting spot midway through the season. Tebow realizes that, without a stellar defense AND a kicker that can consistently hit 50+ yard field goals in crunch time, he cannot lead his team to the playoffs. The media starts criticizing the Jets for giving Sanchez a contract extension and then benching him. The Jets miss the playoffs. Rex Ryan and Tanny are fired. The Jets begin rebuilding.
If I were Sparano, I would much rather trade for Jonathan Stewart... Its not even close how much of an impact they would make on offense.
if Tebow ever gets in he will win the game sosmehow, the guy has NEVER had a losing record in the NFL stop with the defense and kicking bailing him out crap.
