let's see: 2006: 4th round pick in 2006 for Kevan Barlow 2007: Swapped 2nd round picks from 37 to 63 for Thomas Jones 2009: Traded up using a 3rd, 4th and 7th for Greene 2010: 4th round pick for Mcknight 2011: 4th round pick for Bilal Powell So that's: 3rd round picks: 1 4th round picks: 4 7th round picks: 1 And 26 spots in the 2nd round for TJ. And yet it's still a position of need. Well done.
Ha, I totally forgot that. That's a tremendous amount of resources towards the RB position to wind up with the current situation.
LOL at spending resources on the run game!!!@@!!! I mean, it's not like the Jets had a top 10 run offense in '10(4), '09(1), '08(9) for three consecutive seasons before last year's debacle. #loljets, amiright you guyz?!!!! -X-
There's nothing bad about drafting running backs, particularly when your QB situation is as difficult as the Jets has been since Chad Pennington's shoulder exploded the first time. Where the Jets have faced uncertainty, having a good running game is what's driven the longest period of consistent success in the franchises history. I think a lot of young Jets fans don't realize how soul crushing it was to be a Jets fan for the second half of the '80s and most of the '90s. -X-
The worst part is that clearly running back is the easiest position to fill through trade/free agency. And most RB's have short careers. Over the same period of time the Jets have drafted only one pass rusher and one safety.
Oh I agree that RB is important but it's also a position that can be addressed without using draft picks every year. We draft running backs as often as the Giants draft pass rushers.
The point is that good running backs are usually available in free agency. It's the easiest position to fill, especially now with the emphasis on arena league passing. A good running game, starts with the offensive line. Look at the Pats, does anyone really believe that Woodhead and BJGE would get playing time on any other team?
DCM, On my deployment I am supervising Ortiz's younger brother Miguel. He was telling me last week that his brother is being scouted by the Pats/Ravens too. He would play OLB in the 3-4 more than anything else. That would be pretty cool if we take the kid and he pans out.
I see that Ortiz participated in the BC pro-day a few days ago but I can't find results anywhere. Anyone have a link?

Brockers is an interesting prospect for the Jets.Good fall back option if the pass rusher/WR is not there are 16. Brocker's not an explosive pass rusher type. What he is, is extremely stout w/ a large frame/wingspan to anchor. He'd compliment the D-linemen the Jets already have in place very well. Wilk/Pouha/Devito/Ellis/Dixon w/ the addition of Brockers would be an elite group for sure.Extremely difficult to run on and creating alot of room for the LBS to operate.
Its a silly pick. He's a great player and could probably play in the 34 front but its a waste of talent because his game compliments a 43 front alot better than a 34
