Unfortunately this post will not have the answer to the thread question. I am looking for those of you who can explain the best defensive methods and philosophies to put your coach’s hat on and give us an idea on what a successful game plan might look like. The Patriots have added more weapons to the aerial attack this offseason so far. To go with their 2 TE’s and Welker they added two speedsters on the outside. Both Brandon Lloyd and Donte Stallworth can take the tops off the defense. Typically Cover-2 would help slow that down but that would allow Welker to beat you with the underneath route tree and the two TE’s would be able to attack the seams. What about 2-Deep Man Under? I think Welker would kill that coverage. What other combination zone / man coverage’s could we use?
BUMP N RUN... you press their receivers and cut they're timing off while applying pressure( WITH NO PASS RUSH) is how we have done it in the past. In the Divisional round in 2011 we played alot of Zone with a press and confused the fuck out of brady. You have to switch it up. If brady sees a pass formation he'll run it. If he sees a run formation he will pass it he always slices us up. This is why we need a dominant every down PASS RUSHER
I don't know man but their offense is going to be a HUGE problem. Looks like BB is going with the "our D sucks so we are just going to score 60 points a game" method. They were tough enough without The new weapons.
Get a pass rush so all the throws don't go for more than 3 yards. You see how Brady gets when he has no time, shit he ducked at nothing lol.
IMO the best way to stop the Sh^triots offense is with our own ground and pound. Burn the entire clock. Keep Mr Bunchen off the field and we stop their O.
Look no further than the game plans implemented in the AFCCG by the Ravens, and Giants in the Superbowl .. As odd as this sounds "imo" the offense was outperformed by the Patriots defense in those games. If you look at the past 6 to 7 years, their offense has come up short in key situations, etc. Lets not kid ourselves, Brady has shown some "Favre-esque" mental lapses lately as well ... Heaving shit up all the time .. (Ravens to Slater, Giants to Gronk) ..
Their entire offense revolves around both TEs and rightfully so. Landry needs to knock gronk around a little bit, if there is any safety in the league that can do just that, it's him. You eliminate their TE you have them playing right into our hands because our corners are very good. Easier said than done I know.
Giants in the regular season just bullied the recievers at the LoS. Revis being as physical as he is and if Cro could be a man and bully someone 6 inches shorter than him and we have a pass rush it should help us. Maybe once Landry knocks Gronk on his ass a few times then we could win.
Lloyd was a nice pickup, but Stallworth is washed up. They had a top offense last year and Brady passed for over 5000 yards. How much better can the offense get? Both of these guys will be 31 when the season starts and Stallworth hasn't done shit in years. They only get 11 players on the field at a time. I'm not freaking out yet. Our defense needs to be better regardless because they shit on us last year.
Revis on Lloyd, that takes care of that. We'll have to do something unconventional w/ the TEs and allow Welker to beat us. In the games we have beaten NE we have covered well and confused Brady, if we can get a cover Safety we'll have a chance.
I think the Pats are going to go with a long snapper, Brady way back in the shotgun and 9 WRs/tight ends
I don't know why after 2007 when the giants just man handled the pats olinemen we haven't taken a passrusher every year till then. That is the key to beating the Patriots - beat them in the godamn front and force Brady to make bad passes. Just absolutely hit em over and over and over...
We sort of attacked the problem from the other direction, and got really good cover guys. But yes we need a passrush
In a nutshell: Effective pressure from the front four. It commands doubleteams, which eliminates potential receivers as they are forced to help in the blocking, it also disrupts the timing of their passing game and gets in Bradys head with the constant licks he is getting. If the rushers are unable to get to Brady, they get their hands up to clog the passing lanes for the short and short to intermediate pass routes which the scrappy white guy likes to run. Just like someone said earlier, just look at the performance by the opposing defenses in the Ravens-Pats AFCCG and the Giants-Pats SB. Of course, you need players like Ngata, Redding, Suggs, JPP, Tuck, Osi etc to pull this off. Unfortunately the Jets don't have any one like that.
does anyone rememember the Jets reg season wins in '09 and '10 and the possteason win in '10? we didn't get pressure friom the front 4, we disguised blitzes and coverage confusing Brady.
That was the first couple of times Brady and the Pats saw those zone blitzes by the Jets. They worked very well the first couple of times. Last year the Pats seemed to be ready for it and picked it up pretty easily in both games. There are really only two ways to stop the Pats offense: 1) Pressure up the middle from the DLine (ala the Giants). 2) Throw something new at Brady that he hasn't seen before.
