He's missed 15 games the last two years, and not all have been his achilles (which he refused to have a recommended operation to fix). Still, I think that it's a good move for the Jets, if they can keep him on the field. What else is out there?
Basically. The talent in the safety pool was shallow, and I was a fan of signing Nelson, but it's not like he is a lockdown FS. They had no choice but go stopgap at a position of dire need, considering the draft is bereft of blue chip safety talent as well, if the draft gurus can be believed.
I agree with your sentiments on Richardson... I think the moves (or lack thereof) we make to address our hole at 3rd down running back before the draft will be telling as to whether he might be available at 16, or if there's another RB or two Tanny/Tony have their eyes on. Stopgaps at safety have been a huge achilles heel for us (no pun intended) but it just sucks that it's a rather weak safety class, particularly at FS. I'm hoping we don't waste an early pick at FS just because Tanny/Rex feel like they have to. Best case scenario might be that we can grab OJ for a reasonable one year deal and he proves to be the answer.
I don't necessarily agree with that. A one year deal is not the fix we needed. Now I believe that we will get the chance to sign him to a longer deal if he's ready to take flight (pardon the pun) , but we definitely need to go with a safety somewhere in the draft no doubt about it.

His signing, much like the Thomas resigning, does not affect how draft needs at all. We still need a OLB to rush the passer and a cover safty. Yuoth at both positions is a must this offeseason.
Exactly. All it means now is that if the Jets still go OLB/S in first two rounds they have a bit of time to learn. FS is still a bigger issue in my opinion. Landry won't cover anyone let alone Gronkowski.
Agreed! I'm also real Excited to see what we do with all those picks. I cant see us picking 10 + players in this years daft ; rather packaging some of those up to move up in the draft for better quality players.
As long as he stays healthy it's a good signing ... of course even a gimpy Landry is better then a healthy Smith.
If Landry stays healthy, it's a great deal for an in-box safety, But were still missing that "center fielder" The search for that will be much more difficult
especially in Landry's case. It minimizes our risk if he gets hurt! Landry offered to take a one year deal and we did.
err Smith was injured for most of the past season too. He played and his play suffered as a result. A healthy Smith will compliment Landry well in relief. We will get a good FS and our secondary will be awesome. add in a pass rusher or two and the whole DEFENSE will be awesome!
