Reiff? Kuechly? DeCastro? Floyd? How would you order those guys in terms of attractiveness for us at 16? Which of them would you likely prefer over BPA LB available (assuming Ingram isn't there)?
If Reiff fell that far, I don't know how they couldn't pull the trigger, unless someone more insane fell.
If Reiff's there it's a no brainer. I love Nick Perry, and would want him over a great majority of players at 16, unless we were guaranteed Vinny Curry in Rd 2.
dcm - agree with ur trade up for the 2nd pick. me thinks we may get someone fall into our laps at 16 and 1 of 2 things occur....... stay pat - take the BPA - and focus back into the lower first/hi second for the LB... trade down - take a LB a bit lower (perry ??/branch/hightower/curry) and depending on the deal be able to address safety on day 2. not sure Dline is going to be a focus here - imo thats the most stable position on the team.
If decastro is there you have to take him. He looks to be a mauler and a guy you can plug in for the next 8-10 years. I'd be ok with Kuechly...no thanks on the rest (in the first round)
Most of the time, Our DL's main function is to eat up blockers, not wreak havoc by getting penetration. Rex uses the down linemen to eat space so his linebackers can cause the problems for the offense. We want guys that are able to pass rush as well, perhaps kick insead to DT in our nickle package. Thats why wilkerson was so good for us to get last year. He can eat space or make plays when called on, but drafting another player like him early would not address the main issue on our D from a pass rush prespective. The big problem is right now our LB core is getting old an slow. Thats why many have suggested this would be a good draft to double dip at LB, be it an OLB and ILB, or two OLB's. We need youth, talent, and speed all along that part of our front seven. These are the guys that should be making the plays, but due to age and injuries things are not ass good as they once were for the Jets.
Oh i understand that its the DLs job to eat up blockers so our LBs can do work, and not to actually make sacks themselves. But look at the Ravens, their DL wreaks absolute HAVOC and thats before Suggs is getting near the qb. And by havoc I dont mean just getting sacks, but picking up blockers as well, so safeties ans lbs can blitz easily. Pouha is off the field on most 3rd downs, and Devito is more effective in run situations than pass. Now Brockers projecting better as a dt for a team lije the Panthers, i realize that. So i ask if not Brockers, what other 3-4 DE/NTs could prove promising in the first two rounds ?
There are a few. Billy Winn from Boise projects well to 34 DE and should be a 2nd / 3rd rounder. Jerell Worthy from MUS Kendall Reyes out of U conn , but they may not last to our pick in the second. Possibly a guy like Marcus Forston from Miami later on. He's more of a 3T guy but has the size, maybe not ideal height, but arm lenth to play 5T. That said, I see us moving forward developing guys Like Dixon and Ropati for now. Both have played well over limited action and are due to eat up some of DeVito's snaps this season. From the looks of things we will be focusing OLB, S, and WR early.
