this guy IS crucial to offensive success. I hope he has healed. the guy is a FREAK IMO ...and having 2 TE's sets takes alot of the load off Sanchez IMO. He looked so good before injury.

Yes, he seems to be out of sight out of mind with most fans.

He gave us a lot to be excited about in his short time on the field. I'm very excited to see what he can offer us this season.

He can't block, thus won't be a big part of the offense under Sparano.

Keller has learned to block decently, and Cumberland is bigger, I'd like to think JC can be adequate at worst. But yes, I'm excited he can become that dynamic second tight end.

I see blocking as something that can be taught so i'm not too worried about his lacking in this area.
All he needs is a willingness to learn and that's something that remains to be seen.

Im excited to have two one dimensional TEs who are poor fits in our offense on the field at the same time.

    Hope we trade both

I hope we find a way of getting Keller more involved in the offense.
If we trade them who exactly are we going to replace them with.

Cumberland hasn't even had a chance to show what type of player he is so i'm curious as to how you can already have him pegged as someone to give up on?

Not a fair comment. He is not a premier blocker yet but was adequate in college and really improved before his injury. Check out some of his videos and read what some reporters were saying about his progression.

Found this on ganggreen nation that I thought was telling.

"An interesting note about Cumberland's brief 2011 campaign is that he was used as a blocker almost twice as frequently as a receiver. He had been viewed primarily as a receiver coming out of Illinois, but he certainly is big enough to be an effective blocker at his position. His limited blocking work was not bad. "

It's likely that if Cumberland wasn't injured we wouldn't have been subjected to the amount of Mulligan that we were last year. If JC is truly healthy I think his blocking may just surprise you a bit. We shall see....

These guys are in the NFL. You don't think anyone at any point during there football life taught them how to block? If they don't know how to block by now I doubt they ever really get it.

Keller has improved from not blocking to sucking at blocking since he arrived.

As much as I like Cumberland he too is a pass-catching TE, he was a WR in college!

I'm really questioning our moves regarding TEs. It's an absolute must to bring in a good blocker and we're doing shit. Bennett, Boss and now Fells signed very reasonable contracts... fuck this shit.

They have some OL that can't seem to learn how to block.

You'd think that the Jets, with a running style OC, would have targeted a really good blocking TE in FA.

A guy like the Pats just signed (Fells) is a good blocker with decent hands. When you have a good running team, the play-action becomes a real weapon. Then, maybe you can get Holmes open deep and also buy Sanchez some time to get it to him.

Didn't Cumberland tear his ACL twice in the past 2 years? That's not looking too good.
