There needs to be a press conference today to address the following:

Why Reggie Nelson was not signed.

Why a S has not been drafted in 5 drafts.

Why Lowery was traded for nothing.

Why there were only 2 pass plays > 40 yards last season.

Why Wayne Hunter, Vlad Ducasse, and Eric Smith (don't mind him on ST, but not as a starting S) are still in the team's plans. Especially why Wayne Hunter was signed for $2.5M when we could have just rid ourselves of him.

Why 3 out of 4 LBs are league average at best.

This team is still missing 2 S, a legit #2 WR, RT, and consistent pass rush.

Firings MUST be announced at today's press conference.

Buffalo looks better than us right now.

I'm not happy about how they've been pursuing players in FA, but how does this thread differ from every other Wah-Wah thread about not doing anything in FA?

Hunter was actually signed last year when we made him full time. By not cutting him now his 2012 salary became guaranteed. I guess Tanny could have 'cut and resigned' him at a lower pay, but there's always risk in that.

First, if there's a good chance you're gonna be stuck with a player, it's best not to mess with his head and piss him off on top of him sucking.

Second, as a back up lineman, which he may well become, he was excellent. And we desperately need back up lineman.

So by keeping him on the roster we kept his head on straight and guaranteed ourselves at least a good back up lineman.

A few points about your press conference

    - This would go down as the most ridiculous press conference of all time. A team will never hold an event to show the league that they have made mistakes unless forced too. It would make the Jets organization look weak and unappealing to free agents.

    - How spoiled can you be from a team that just recently had 2 fantastic seasons, just because there are holes in march doesnt mean they will be there when the season comes around. There is still players available and not to mention teh draft which is how we should build our team. Show some PATIENCE

    - Half the things on the list the are trying to address or have addressed. Shotty is out more deep passes. Wanted safetys and they already had 3 make vists. Rex said he wanted a pass rusher in the draft, and they are trying to get rid of bart.

    - Nelson not signing hurt, but calm down, keep perspective and you will realize that the team is not as futile as you think. There are holes but they will be plugged, and based on team history I would say before the draft.

The main issue is there is no accountability. Rather than admitting mistakes on Ducasse and signing a real RT, we double down the mistakes.

The main goal of my press conference is to establish an environment of accountability, as evidenced by the firings that will be announced at today's press conference.

This isn't Congress or the President we are talking about here. The only person Tanny, Rex, or anyone who works for the organization, is accountable to is Woody Johnson. Not you, or me, or any other fan. This idea of a press conference will never happen and is moronic.

If we as a fanbase want to show our displeasure don't buy Jets tickets and merchandise. Then Woody would loose money and changes would be made. That's not happening though.

The Jets organization is a business. So if you have a problem, don't buy their product. But this sense of entitlement that fanbases have is absurd if you think about it.

I don't think there was a single game last year where you couldn't buy tickets right up until game time.

And your point is what? The stadium still wasn't empty. Do you think Woody/the Jets care whether you buy your tickets at the gate, online, are a season ticket holder, or a season ticket holder that just doesn't show up? They still get their money. People are still buying merchandise. People are still watching the game on TV.

But that is beside the point. The idea of holding a press conference and fans demanding "accountability" as if this is some elected official is just stupid.

    Man, is Broadway Mike pissed!

Broadway Mike, cheer-up, the Mets are out of the Madoff scandal after this morning's settlement.

    That said, excellent March rant!

This free agency period is the first evidence I've seen in awhile that the Jets get that what they're doing is not working. There are pieces leading into to it, like the Hunter guarantee and keeping Holmes, that tell me there's still a long way to go but the Jets are doing something right for a change. They're not crippling themselves cap-wise before the draft and removing their flexibility in the process.

Look at who have been very active in free agency: Tampa Bay, Washington, Kansas City, San Diego, Dallas, St Louis, Seattle.

Look who have been quiet as a mouse: Pittsburgh, Baltimore, NY Giants, Green Bay, New Orleans, Atlanta.

The better teams have sat out free agency as they do almost every year. The worse teams have dived in to churn some more as they do every year. Greatness is built through the draft, period.

Are you ever going to give it a rest? You sound like a little kid. Stop crying already. You act like every move we make should be absolutely perfect and if we don't sign every high profile FA we're doomed. Do you really think the team of professionals has no idea what went wrong last year?? Thank GOD they have fans like you to remind them. Oh yeah, lets all blame Tanny because Nelson wanted to stick with his team. He should have overpaid and spent our entire cap on him.

What a joke. You should just buy the 1968 season and watch it repeatedly because you have no clue what makes a good football team and obviously won't even support what we've got going.

    1. Because he took more money and stayed with Bengals. Jets have learned their lesson not to overpay for players that are at the end of their peek.

    2. We had Kerry Rhodes and Eric Smith. Not many teams have two pro bowl caliber safeties.

    3. Lowery was not being used in NY. I thought we got a 4th for him, maybe I'm wrong.

    4. why is the sky blue? Because it is.

    5. DuCasse was a developmental pick. Can u sit yo ass down n let him play in man scheme before jumping ships? Hunter should've been let go, but we had no viable replacement and there's no telling how much a FA can get in bidding wars, resulting in overpaid contracts (see Pace/Scott).

    6. We drafted Ghost, but he was a bust. Happens every year to the best of the teams. Scott and Pace were premier LBs couple years ago, but their decline has come rapidly. Bitch about it if we don't draft a few LBs this year.

    7. We have had our hands on every safety this year. We have been trying to get a #2 WR with what budget we've got, we drafted Ducasse who'll compete for RT, and we Mayhem for a full off season.

    8. Let's start by firing fans like you.

    9. After we fire you, go root for the Bills! Just be prepared for another miserable season with them.

    That part made me lol.

Yes, the best way to run any bussiness is to over react at some bad news. "Oh no Nelson did not sign, Fire people!"

You act like we are coming off a 4-12 season.

We already removed the OC. We plan on getting back to our running ways. We still have the Draft to go. Yea, lets start gettign rid of people before preseason, that does not spell panic at all. :rofl2:

I think Mr. T already went on record about Lowery accepting responsibility for the mistake.
The offense lack of deep passes was addressed by changing OC.
I am not happy with the Safety situation but overpaying for Nelson is not the answer. I am not in a panic mode yet and will not be till the daft is complete and we get closer to training camp.
You can see that not all the guys here seem to have the same priorities but to be fair we are pretty close.
Let me give you my simplistic priority list of critical holes that need to be plugged and see if you agree we can slow down the press conference till June depending on results.
    1) First and foremost a FS and potentially a SS. We had limited options with our cap and struggling to find a match without overpaying. With the loss of Nelson the selection is slim or none. Unfortunately it might require alternate options with a combination of Crome and Wilson and get another CB/S with the later draft rounds that is strong and athletic.
    2) OL - please, please get us a reasonable vet plus a solid prospect in the draft
    3) OLB - Draft in 1st round best available or trade down and get some one in the 2nd.
    4) WR - Draft
Continue to build depth with ILB, OLB, and Safety through the draft
In my view if we go crazy and give away draft picks or overpay for a one year plug we would have failed. If the draft captures immediate contributors in the first 3 rounds will be a success and the press conference will be a pleasant one.
I'm sure not all TGG readers will agree with this but hopefully I'm not too far off

What good will a press conference do? Seriously. Then we fire some dudes to hold them accountable for the personnel moves that led to two AFC Championship games and an 8-8 season. OK. Then what? Do you burn down the house whenever a light bulb goes out?
